This is the same Father God who said, ‘For I know the thoughts that I think toward you; thoughts of peace, and not of evil.’ The English KJV Bible uses the word peace but the original Hebrew word is shalom.”

John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

Karen and I had just cleared customs and climbed aboard our tour bus in Israel. It was a warm April afternoon in Tel Aviv. There was an air of jubilation among our travelling comrades, excited to be spending the next ten days together. We were thrilled to be traveling through the Holy Land visiting the many sites where Jesus lived and ministered. Naturally, none of us spoke any modern Hebrew. As our tour guide settled us down and welcomed us to Israel he said, “The first thing I need to tell you is, in Israel, we do not say ‘hello’ or ‘goodbye’. We always greet one another with only one word, the word shalom.”

I always thought that shalom meant peace. Indeed, it does. However, this word means a lot more than just peace. In English, we often have only one word to describe complex emotions. Take the word love, for instance. English has only one word for love (excluding similar words that describe the same emotion, like affection). In Greek, for example, there are four different words for love that describe four different aspects of the emotion. The same goes for the word, peace. In English peace means freedom from disturbance or tranquillity, whereas the Hebrew word shalom means so much more. According to Strong’s Dictionary shalom means, safe, happy, friendly, welfare, prosperity and… peace.

God-tracking is based on the premise that God knows the plans he has for us. Our God is a benevolent and loving Father. Every father desires the best for his children. As Jesus once said, “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” This is the same Father God who said, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you; thoughts of peace, and not of evil.” The English KJV Bible uses the word peace but the original Hebrew word is shalom. Therefore, God’s thoughts for you are for your safety, happiness, welfare, prosperity and… peace.

Your word promises that, in Christ, I have a hopeful and prosperous 2021. Jesus promised that, though we may have trouble in the world, he has overcome the world and given us his shalom. So, if something doesn’t work out quite like you’d hoped it would then trust that the Lord has something better for you – something he has meant for you – that will far outstrip your wildest imagination.”

Ephesians 2:10
For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

“I can’t understand why I didn’t get the job,” said Pete. “I have the experience and qualifications required. There’s no reason I know of why they didn’t give it to me.” Pete had been unemployed for a few months and was desperate for a new job. “Did you acknowledge the Lord in this application?” I asked. “Yes,” he replied. “Did you commit the application and interview to the Lord?” Yes, again. “Then I would venture to say, Pete, that this job was not meant. It means that the Lord has something better for you,” I concluded.

One thing I have discovered is that God always means what he says and means what he does. The Lord is not indecisive (as we are), which means he does everything on purpose. The Bible tells us that God has a plan for our futures and that if we acknowledge him in all our ways then he will direct our life tracks accordingly. Sure enough, we’re not off the hook in that we still need to strategize but if we do so in prayer and in faith, seeking God’s purposes first, as we acknowledge his foreknowledge of our lives, then we will strategize according to his rules.

Therefore, if you’re applying for a new job or planning a new move in life be sure to acknowledge the Lord in all your strategies by prayer and confession. If you’re seeking plans for the future or looking for new opportunities then seek first God’s principles, purposes and precedents – his kingdom and righteousness. If you do so then all you could ever hope for will be added to you according to the plans of him who knows the plans he has for you. Believe me when I say that if you follow this process in life then you will find yourself, within space and time, exactly where you’re meant to be.

So, if something doesn’t work out quite like you’d hoped it would then trust that the Lord has something better for you – something he has meant for you – that will far outstrip your wildest imagination. Remember, the Lord God watches over his word to you in order to activate his plans for your life. What he promises will come about, in his time according to his design. And when it does, you will jump for joy!

God-tracking is believing you are exactly where you’re meant to be.

"Acknowledge that Jesus died and rose again to expose the deeds of darkness and put your faith in him. The night is far gone. Let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armour of light. At one time you were darkness but now you are light in the Lord. So, walk as children of light.”

1 John 1:5
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

Miracle of true light

Once a year Jews celebrate Chanukkah. Chanukkah commemorates an event that took place in Jerusalem in the 2nd century BC. In 168 BC the ruling Seleucid Greek empire, under king Antiochus IV Epiphanes, outlawed Jewish practice and defiled the Temple by installing an altar to the Greek god, Zeus and sacrificing pigs. A small army of Jews, known as the Maccabees, rebelled. They regained control over the Temple, removed the symbols of Zeus and built a new altar so they could once again offer sacrifices to God. According to the Talmud, a miracle occurred at this time. There was only enough oil to keep the Temple’s menorah (oil lamp), burning for one day. But the flame stayed alight for eight days until a new supply of oil could be found. This is the basis for the eight-day celebration of Chanukkah.

It's no coincidence that our Jewish brothers celebrate Chanukkah near the time of Christmas. The menorah represents the light of God and the outworking of God’s Word and Spirit. At the beginning of the gospel of John we read, “The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world,” and further on it says that all who received him, who believed in his name, he would give the right to become children of God, born, not of blood nor of the will of man, but of God.

Jesus, the Messiah, came into the world, sent as the light of God to illuminate the way to freedom from bondage to sin. The Jews were in bondage under the Seleucid Greeks during the intertestamental period and were freed by the Maccabees. The symbol of this liberty was the light provided by the menorah that burned miraculously for eight days without replenishment. Mankind has been under the bondage of darkness since the fall in Eden. Jesus, the true light of God, exposed the deeds of darkness and he revealed the only way to life, though his act at Calvary.

Today, acknowledge that Jesus died and rose again to expose the deeds of darkness and put your faith in him. The night is far gone, so let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armour of light. At one time you were darkness but now you are light in the Lord. So, walk as children of light; the miracle of true light!

I instate Jesus as the Lord and Light of my being

“Heavenly Father, thank you for the miracle of Jesus. To this corrupt world filled with darkness, you sent the True Light, Jesus, on that first Christmas to show us the way of life and peace. Today, O God, I confess Jesus to be Lord of my life and put my faith in his death and resurrection. His deed at Calvary exposed the deeds of darkness and sin in me and I repent in his holy name. I expel the gods of this world – including ego – from the temple of my heart and I instate Jesus as the Lord and Light of my being. Amen.”

“If you are suffering bereavement today your Lord knows all about it. He loves you deeply and his Word is comforting. But more than anything, know that he is alongside you at this minute with his hand on yours, silently weeping with you.”

John 11:35
Jesus wept.

Queen Victoria heard that the wife of a labourer had lost her baby. Having suffered deep sorrow herself, she wanted to express her sympathy. She called on the bereaved mother and spent time with her. Later, neighbours asked what the queen said. "Nothing," replied the grieving mother. "She simply put her hands on mine, and we silently wept together."

Recently the son of good friends of mine passed away. He was only in his early 40s and died alone one night in his sleep. It was a great shock for me. I know him well. It’s always such a tragedy when a child dies before his parents. His mom and dad were greatly instrumental in my life during a trying crisis many years ago. When their son died, I wanted to call them and express how sorry I was. I wanted to tell them how much they meant to me and how sad I was at the passing of their youngest. I had so many words to say, but the Holy Spirit prevented me from uttering one word. He led me to send them one simple message saying I was praying for them.

Sometimes words are just inadequate. Words often compound a problem like bereavement. Jesus faced the death of a friend. Lazarus had been ill for some time. His sisters called on Jesus and asked him to come heal their brother but he delayed in going. Jesus knew that he would raise Lazarus from the dead to the glory of God. However, Lazarus’ family did not have this insight. When Lazarus died, Jesus did not offer copious words of comfort or meaningless gestures of solace. The account in the gospel of John says that Jesus knew he would raise Lazarus from the dead yet we see that he was deeply grieved at the family’s loss. Lazarus’ relatives did not understand that Jesus would bring him back to life, yet Jesus did not offer endless words of comfort he merely wept with those who wept.

If you are suffering bereavement today your Lord knows all about it. He loves you deeply and his Word is comforting. But more than anything, know that he is alongside you at this minute with his hand on yours, silently weeping with you.

“Dear Lord, thank you so much that you are with me in every situation of life. You are my Comforter, Holy Spirit. I need your comfort today. Words aren’t enough to help me get through this loss. Your power to love is all the condolence I need. Thank you for the story about how you simply wept at the grave of Lazarus. I know you weep with me when I weep and rejoice with me when I rejoice. Yet, I know, too, that you have the power to heal and deliver. So, dear Lord, I place my faith in your restoring power and take comfort from your hand. Amen.”

“I discovered that two-thirds of all the miracles Jesus performed as recorded in the gospels are miracles of healing. Jesus is the same today as he was then. Therefore, healing is God’s will and God heals today.”

Jeremiah 32:27
“Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me?”

I was complaining to the Lord the other day. “Lord, you know how much I need an answer to this prayer,” I said as I waited for the kettle to boil. “I believe in miracles. I really do! I have prayed for healings before. I know you always bring healing, even if it’s through medicine, but I’ve never actually seen a miracle.” The kettle clicked and I began to pour the coffee for my son and his family who were visiting. Just then young Ruben, my 8-year old grandson, popped his head around the kitchen door and gave me the thumbs-up, and then returned to the lounge. I returned the gesture with a smile and continued making coffee. I pondered what had just happened. There was no reason for Ruben to do this; he just spontaneously gave me the thumbs-up and sat down again. Then it occurred to me... Ruben is that miracle!

When Ruben was born, he appeared healthy. However, three weeks later, signs of infections began appearing in his little body. They got worse. Ruben was finally admitted to hospital with suspected serious sepsis. At one time he stopped breathing and needed resuscitation. He was rushed to an intensive care unit of a children’s hospital in another town. My grandson was chronically ill. We prayed for a miracle.

His tiny body lay on a large bed under a protective Perspex cover with myriad tubes and cables attached to him. Monitors beeped and oxygen hissed. The ICU staff were very concerned for Ruben. Sepsis in such a small body often proves fatal. A few of us gathered around his bed, along with many folks around the world, and prayed for Ruben’s healing. We left the hospital in despair, yet with faith that by the wounds of Jesus, Ruben was healed.

When we returned the next day, we were astounded to find that most of the tubes had been removed from Ruben’s little body. The nursing staff was very positive and hopeful. They had set in for the long-haul but there had been a major turnaround. In just a little more than 24-hours after he arrived at the special unit, Ruben was discharged. The words of the head sister of the ICU, “I have never seen such a rapid recovery like this.” It was a miracle.

I finished stirring the coffee with an apology to my Lord. “Ah, Lord, I’m sorry for grumbling. I have seen a miracle. You are the God of miracles and a healer of our flesh.” I reminded myself that the scriptures tell us that the prayer of faith shall make the sick person well and that if we lay hands on the sick, they shall recover. In fact, I’ve discovered that two-thirds of all the miracles Jesus performed, as recorded in the gospels, are miracles of healing. Jesus is the same today as he was then. Therefore, healing is God’s will and God heals today. As I delivered the coffee to expectant guests in the lounge, I was reassured that we can be expectant of God for miracles.

“No matter what you face today – economic collapse, unprecedented pandemic, violent disaster, incurable illness or simply a forlorn spirit, know this, your God will never, never abandon you.”

GodTracker
It was once said, “Sometimes the Lord calms the storm. Sometimes he lets the storm rage and calms his child.” A story is told of an artist’s competition where the painters were asked to paint the most serene picture of a peaceful scene they could imagine. They all set to work. A few weeks later, at a great banquet, the finalists were revealed. One after the other magnificent scenes of quiet and tranquillity were unveiled until, finally, the effort of the grand prize winner was presented on a podium, still covered by a curtain.

“This is the most intense scene of peace I have ever witnessed,” said the chief judge as he addressed the audience. “It reveals a heart devoid of pain, contaminants, and fear. It shows one that he can be content in every circumstance; a heart filled with authority, love and self-control. This, ladies and gentlemen, is our winner.” The judge uncovered the canvas.

The audience gasped. There before them, beneath a powerful spotlight, was exposed an exquisite painting of a most violent waterfall crashing over the edge of a high cliff to the rocks below. Above were ferocious dark rolling cumulonimbus clouds, spewing fierce flashes of lightning. Spray was rising from the torrent, blown by brutal gales as water crashed over the edge of the falls. Not a sign of life anywhere except on a narrow ledge of rock in the cliff face beside the cascading waterfall. There, beneath a mother’s warm wings nestled three small chicks in a roost clinging to the rock. They were safe, warm… and at peace.

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings, you will find refuge. No matter what you face today – economic collapse, unprecedented pandemic, violent disaster, incurable illness or simply a forlorn spirit, know this, your God will never, never abandon you. He is your provider, your safety, your guide, your healer and your peace. Come to Jesus and he will give you rest. Underneath now, are his everlasting arms. The Lord is your refuge and your fortress, your God, in whom you can trust.

I choose, instead, not to give up but to look up; my help comes from the maker of heaven and earth. I choose now to set my mind on things above and my eyes on Jesus.  A personal message from the author

Matthew 28:19-20
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[b] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

This email/blog devotional has been impacting many lives since 2003. It began when a listener of my radio show, On Track, asked me for an email containing my prep material for my show. GodTracker forms part of a larger Christian radio ministry that, up until recently, was called Sure Reality Media. In addition to GodTracker, SRM produces 5 radio segments ranging from a half-hour talk show to a 60-second radio spot. These segments are broadcast on-air and online by 40 radio stations via FM, MW, shortwave and the Internet. All told, SRM has a potential listenership of more than 1 billion people.

I’m writing this for today’s GodTracker to thank you for your support over the years and to ask for your prayers and continued support. The message of the gospel of Jesus offers faith, hope and love to this dying world. It offers the way to find peace in a real relationship with the living God, through Jesus Christ. Jesus commissioned us all to take this message to the ends of the earth. It is the purpose of this ministry to share this good news with as many who will receive it and to teach those you know Christ to be his true disciples.

After much prayer and seeking the leading of the Holy Spirit, we believe it’s time for some positive changes. The name Sure Reality Media will be changed to simply, Sure Reality. The website godtracker.co.uk will point to surereality.net, bringing GodTracker firmly under the banner of Sure Reality. This weekly e-mail/blog will continue uninterrupted; however, it will carry more promotions and information about the ministry as a whole.

Once again, thank you so much for your faithful backing over the years. May we encourage you to continue supporting Sure Reality in prayer and giving.

God bless you

Your humble words and heartfelt persistent prayers can move the hand of Creator. Therefore, get praying!”

James 5:16(b)
The heartfelt and persistent prayer of a righteous man (believer) can accomplish much [when put into action and made effective by God—it is dynamic and can have tremendous power]. (AMP BIBLE)

I’ve often heard it asked, why doesn’t God prevent devastations like the Covid-19 pandemic or

earthquakes or even wars? Why doesn’t he intervene in the ways of man? Well, the truth is, he does, or more specifically, he has intervened. God has given his Church the authority and great privilege of prayer.

Prayer is a mystery to me. I will never know how my simple seemingly insignificant words in private can move the hand of the Creator, yet they can. James writes (as seen in the Amplified Bible) that the payers of a righteous person are dynamic and can have tremendous power. “Ah, but I’m not righteous,” I hear you say. Indeed you in yourself and I in myself are not righteous. In fact, Isaiah says our attempts at righteousness are like filthy rags in God’s sight. True. However, listen to what the Bible says God did through the work of Jesus at Calvary: God made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Get that? It is not your righteousness that qualifies your prayers, it is God’s own righteousness in you, through Christ, that causes your prayers to become dynamic and have tremendous power to accomplish much!

So, I say, as you abide in Jesus and have his words abide in you, ask the Father for anything in Christ’s name and he will do it for you. In Christ, you are the righteous man whose prayers accomplish much. Your humble words and heartfelt persistent prayers can move the hand of Creator. Therefore, get praying! With this authority and privilege, you can stand against devastations like the Covid-19 pandemic or earthquakes or even wars. Come on, child God, let’s pray without ceasing.

God-tracking is moving God’s sovereign hand to intervene, through prayer.

I pray that you will demonstrate your power to save, deliver and heal

“O sovereign God, I praise you for the work of Jesus at Calvary. Thank you, O Lord Jesus, that you took my sin on the cross that I could be made righteous by God’s righteousness. Therefore, In Christ and by your righteousness, I pray for the end of the Covid-19 pandemic. In Christ and by your righteousness, I pray that you will intervene in the affairs of man and bring hope, peace and faith to the world. I pray that millions will be drawn to Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. And I pray that you will demonstrate your power to save, deliver and heal, not least of all, those who are in need within my own family. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen!”

…you may have been taken advantage of or offended in some way. Perhaps this has left you feeling rejected or alone. But take courage, the Lord your God is with you. He will not leave you or forsake you. The same El Roi who comforted Hagar is reminding you today that his eye is on you.”

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.

Rightly or wrongly, Hagar, the servant of Abraham’s wife, Sarah, was pregnant with Abraham’s son. God had promised Abraham that he would have a son by Sarah but she was barren. Therefore, according to their custom, a servant girl was given to Abraham to bear him a son. Unfortunately, Sarah became jealous of Hagar’s success and banished her from the household. Hagar cried out to God and God replied: “Behold, you are pregnant and shall bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, because the Lord has listened to your affliction.” God’s grace was upon this humble servant girl. He had heard her cry. In response, Hagar called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, “You are a God of seeing,” or El Roi.

Our God is the God of seeing. He sees everything that happens on earth. God is omniscient, that is, he is all-knowing. The Bible even says, he knows the number of hairs on your head, something I bet you don’t even know. Just as in Hagar’s case, you may have been taken advantage of or offended in some way. Perhaps this has left you feeling dejected or alone. But take courage, the Lord your God is with you. He will not leave you or forsake you. The same El Roi who comforted Hagar is reminding you today that his eye is on you.

So, continue to acknowledge El Roi in all your ways and trust him to direct your life’s track. He is the God who sees.

God-tracking is living confidently under his watchful eye.

SO, DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY

As your eye is on me so I pray, help me to keep my eyes on Jesus.

“Dear Lord God – El Roi – I know you are all-knowing and all-seeing. You see everything that happens in the life of everyone on earth, because you are GOD. Therefore, I put my trust completely in your knowledge and foreknowledge of my life. Thank you that you see me. Thank you that you know the number of hairs on my head. And thank you that, as your eye is on the sparrow, so your eye is on me. You are my healing, my peace, my hope and my future. You are my provider, my comforter and my guide. I acknowledge you in ALL my ways and trust that your will, will be done. As your eye is on me so I pray, help me to keep my eyes on Jesus. Amen.”

Therefore, dear GodTracker, may we look through trials and tribulations and fix our eyes on Jesus who, for the joy set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and was seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord

The people of God had fallen away from the purposes of God by contaminating their lifestyles with the trends of their unbelieving neighbours. They compromised their worship with idolatry. They had opened the door to the real enemy of God’s purposes – the devil – and given him the opportunity to wreak havoc with their future as a nation. As a result, they were conquered by the Babylonians who dragged them into captivity for 70 years. At the advent of this calamity, God gave the prophet Jeremiah a word. He said, “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will visit you, and I will fulfil to you my promise and bring you back to this place. For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

This devotional has at its core the concept of tracking the plans and purposes of God. Indeed, God does have a plan for you and me, as we acknowledge him in all our ways. I have discovered the truth of this statement is, it is God who knows these plans but we don’t; not until he reveals them to us. Therefore, for us to walk in the plans God knows he has for us, we need to seek and track his plans in all we do. Hence, God-tracking. As you seek and track the plans God knows he has for you by acknowledging him in all your ways, you become a GodTracker.

God’s plans for us, and the Body of Christ at large, are to bless us and cause us to enjoy a thriving future. However, as with Jeremiah’s compatriots, sometimes the compromise of integrity creeps into our lifestyles. Sadly, I believe calamities like Covid-19 occur because of this compromise. But God uses calamity to soften our hearts and, in repentance, to bring our focus back to him, the author of our faith.

Therefore, dear GodTracker, may we look through trials and tribulations and fix our eyes on Jesus who, for the joy set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and was seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Just as the Israelites returned to rebuild Jerusalem and prosper, so the Lord plans to restore your hope for a flourishing future.

God-tracking is remaining focused on the author of faith

SO, DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY

I now fix my eyes on Jesus who is the author of my life’s story and believe you will restore my hope for a flourishing future

“Dear Lord, thank you for the promise that you have a plan for my prosperity. Right now, things look a little bleak. But I know you know what lies ahead so I acknowledge you in all my ways and trust that you will direct my path according to the plans you know you have for me. Dear Lord, I repent of any compromise of my faith and morals. I repent of any opportunity I have given the devil, at any time in my life. I now fix my eyes on Jesus who is the author of my life’s story and believe you will restore my hope for a flourishing future. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.”
