1 Chronicles 16:34 (NIV)
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Science tells us that a universal constant could be a physical constant, which is a quantity generally believed to be both common in nature and constant in time, for example, the speed of light. We use these constants in physics to set a standard as a balance in our equations so that the variables can be accurately adjusted. The variables in equations are the quantities that constantly change. To me, in the equations of life, the variable quantities are the ups and downs we endure, while the constants are God and the principles, purposes and precedents of his word.

The ancient writings of the Bible tell us that God is the Creator of the universe, including mankind. It’s not my intention to debate creation vs evolution here, but suffice to say that we all agree that the universe came into existence at one finite point in time. Since then, the whole universe has been in constant variation (probably as a result of the fall of mankind). The question that remains is what existed before that initial creative point? We believe that God has always existed – he is eternal and encompasses the timeline of infinity. The Bible says that God is and was and is to come. That is, he is constantly present. It also says that Jesus (who is God) is the same yesterday, today and forever. In other words, the Lord Almighty is the only true, reliable universal constant in the equations of life.

Do you feel that there are too many variables in your life inhibiting your hope for the future? Do you feel so frustrated with the many ups and downs you’re going through that you don’t know whether you’re coming or going? Are you longing for stability and consistency in your career, your relationships and your peace of mind? Well then, here’s the good news: the Lord your God is your one true constant in life. He is faithful and his love endures forever. He is dependable, trustworthy and consistent. His love for you endures your hardships, your difficulties, your disappointments and your losses. His love for you bears your frustrations, your failings and your flaws. All else in life may shift like variable quantities in those scientific equations, but God’s love for you will remain constant forever. As Hannah Smith said, “Nothing can separate you from God's love, absolutely nothing. God is enough for time; God is enough for eternity. God is enough!”

God-tracking is constantly relying on his consistent love.

Don’t Give Up, Look Up & Pray

I believe that you will help me through my upheavals and balance the variables in my life.”

“Dear God Almighty, I want to truly thank you for your consistent love for me. I know now that your faithful love endures all my hardships and my failings. I am sorry, O Lord, for taking my eyes off your constant presence in my life. Today, I put my confidence in your constancy and declare that you are the one and only true constant in my life. Help me to face my ups and downs in the knowledge that your love and your faithfulness never change. I believe that you will help me through my upheavals and balance the variables in my life. Thank you, Lord. Amen.”

Philippians 1:6
…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

God-tracking is facing the future with peaceful confidence
Here’s wishing you and yours a truly hope-filled and blessed 2026. One thing I have learned, as I have tracked the plans of God throughout my life, is this: God’s new is always new, and in this New Year, I believe He is doing a new thing in your life. Be encouraged to live expectantly of God’s plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

In a world faced with terrorism, rampant secularism and Christian persecution and war, it’s so good to know that the Lord our God has made a way for us to walk in peace and hope. In Christ, we enjoy a surpassing peace; not peace as the world knows it, but a deep inner peace in whatever conflict we may face. And the hope that he has given us comes from the faith generated by the words of Jesus, the author and perfecter of our lives.

Jesus faced opposition on every side, yet he rested in God’s perfect will for his life even when it cost him his life on the cross. However, Jesus faced crucifixion in full confidence that the Spirit of God would raise him from the dead and seat him at the right hand of God in glory. We are called follow this example by fixing our eyes on Jesus and not on the difficulties surrounding us, gleaning from the faith his word produces in us.

God-tracking, therefore, is facing every new day and every new year and every new challenge with faith and confidence that he will guide us through troubled, needy times with great peace, in the hope of his good plans for our lives. Corrie Ten Boom said, “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.” If 2026 appears anything less than rosy from where you’re standing today, then don’t give up but look up into the eyes of Jesus and say, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

I rest in the peace of Jesus and have faith in the hope that your word brings to my life.”

“Dear Lord, thank you for bringing me this far. As I face the New Year, I know that you will always remain faithful to your word to guide and bless me according to your great plans for my life. Help me, therefore, to faithfully track your plans and purposes by keeping my eyes on Jesus and acknowledging you in all my ways. Be encouraged to always acknowledge the Lord and give him the credit for your performance. Seek first his kingdom principles, and he will mend that leaky purse!”

1 Samuel 2:30(b)
Those who honour me I will honour, but those who despise me will be disdained.

Cheryl had recently been promoted to finance manager of a large leisure company with over 300 employees on the payroll. Her salary was proportionate to her senior position in the company. Married with three young children, Cheryl was the primary breadwinner in her family. As a Christian, she knew well the importance of acknowledging God in all her ways. However, as her responsibilities grew along with her income, Cheryl gradually took her eyes off her Master and began to slowly drift from God’s purposes for her life. Sadly, she no longer gave him the praise for her success but claimed all the credit herself.

Not long after she had received her promotion, Cheryl and her husband began to suffer marital strife. Her long hours away from home, coupled with the fact that, somehow, their combined income still did not meet the growing needs of their family, were causing conflict. Finally, Cheryl walked out, took the children and went to live with her mother. Seemingly free of the financial drain of her spouse, Cheryl hoped her financial difficulties would level off. But they didn’t. She continued to earn well, but somehow, she never had sufficient income to meet her needs. She felt as though she earned her wages only to put them in a purse with holes in it.

The people of Jerusalem had returned to their homeland after the Babylonian captivity and received the command to rebuild God’s temple. They started with gusto but, sadly, took their eyes off the goal of God’s purposes and began to feast on the fat of the land, claiming all the credit for themselves. So, God sent his man, Haggai, with a stern warning to correct the folly of their behaviour and to call them back to the job at hand – to rebuild his temple to his praise.

Have you ever been in a similar situation? I have. Perhaps you’ve had a good job and earned a reasonable wage, but still somehow seem to come up short at the end of every month. You work hard; you earn only to put your wages in a leaky purse. If that’s you, then be encouraged to always acknowledge the Lord and give him the credit for your performance. Seek first his kingdom principles, and he will mend that leaky purse!

God-tracking is being sure we never take the credit for God’s doing.

Lord, I choose to live for your glory. Please mend my leaky purse.”

“Dear Lord, I am sorry for taking my eyes off your goals for my life, and I am sorry for taking the credit for your doing. I return to acknowledging you in all my ways and trust you to direct my outcome. I commit my financial management to you and choose to honour you with the first fruits of my labour. I commit my family to you and ask that you restore my relationships. Lord, I choose to live for your glory. Please mend my leaky purse. Amen.”
