The Zeal of the Lord

Isaiah 59:17
For He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on His head; He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing and was clad with zeal as a cloak.

It’s sad when Christians lose the zeal of first love. After having discovered new life in Christ, it’s easy to fall back on old ways and grow cold. Jesus said to John on Patmos, “Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.” Sadly, many of us may start our Christian walks with flair but soon lose our zeal.

Maybe that spark has gone out of your relationship with the Lord. If that’s you, then stop trying to do it in your own strength. Be encouraged to allow him to fan into flame the gift of the Holy Spirit. Ask the Lord to fill you again with his zeal, then step back from your efforts and watch as the zeal of the Lord once again sets your heart ablaze.

God-tracking is burning with the zeal of the Lord.

Philippians 1:6
…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

God-tracking is facing the future with peaceful confidence
Here’s wishing you and yours a truly hope-filled and blessed 2026. One thing I have learned, as I have tracked the plans of God throughout my life, is this: God’s new is always new, and in this New Year, I believe He is doing a new thing in your life. Be encouraged to live expectantly of God’s plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

In a world faced with terrorism, rampant secularism and Christian persecution and war, it’s so good to know that the Lord our God has made a way for us to walk in peace and hope. In Christ, we enjoy a surpassing peace; not peace as the world knows it, but a deep inner peace in whatever conflict we may face. And the hope that he has given us comes from the faith generated by the words of Jesus, the author and perfecter of our lives.

Jesus faced opposition on every side, yet he rested in God’s perfect will for his life even when it cost him his life on the cross. However, Jesus faced crucifixion in full confidence that the Spirit of God would raise him from the dead and seat him at the right hand of God in glory. We are called follow this example by fixing our eyes on Jesus and not on the difficulties surrounding us, gleaning from the faith his word produces in us.

God-tracking, therefore, is facing every new day and every new year and every new challenge with faith and confidence that he will guide us through troubled, needy times with great peace, in the hope of his good plans for our lives. Corrie Ten Boom said, “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.” If 2026 appears anything less than rosy from where you’re standing today, then don’t give up but look up into the eyes of Jesus and say, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

God-tracking is facing the future with peaceful confidence

“I rest in the peace of Jesus and have faith in the hope that your word brings to my life.”

“Dear Lord, thank you for bringing me this far. As I face the New Year, I know that you will always remain faithful to your word to guide and bless me according to your great plans for my life. Help me, therefore, to faithfully track your plans and purposes by keeping my eyes on Jesus and acknowledging you in all my ways. I trust that you will meet my needs and open the doors to your purposes for me this year. I rest in the peace of Jesus and have complete faith in the hope that your word brings to my life. Amen.”

“He will certainly not abandon you but will surely take care of you. He knows how you got into this mess and he knows how you’ll get out of it.”

Exodus 13:19 (NASB)
“…God will certainly take care of you…”

Pete and Jan were doing well. He was running a successful small business while she looked after the three kids at home. Pete’s business was growing as new opportunities opened to him. Both are Bible-believing Christians, acknowledging God in all they do. Then one day, all hell broke loose. Pete lost a large contract in which he had invested all their savings. Jan fell ill and found it increasingly difficult to care for the children. “Why, O Lord?” cried Pete. “What’s going on? I need help!” Pete and Jan’s story is common. A young couple finding their feet in life only to have the rug pulled out from beneath them. I’ve been there. Have you?

The Bible makes it clear that God knows the plans he has for you. He is eternal, omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent. He knows your situation right now and he will come to your rescue. We read that the enemy of our souls, Satan, prowls around like a lion seeking to devour us. Our battle is not against human forces but against demonic forces in the spiritual realm. Satan is intent on derailing you from the purposes of God.

Be strong and courageous, the Lord is with you. He is your helper. He will meet all your needs according to his magnificent riches in Jesus. He will certainly not abandon you but will surely take care of you. He knows how you got into this mess and he knows how you’ll get out of it. Your Lord is already on the other side of your tomorrow. So, stand together in the power of prayer and set your eyes on Jesus, trusting him as the author and perfector of your faith.

God-tracking is getting through tough times with the care of the Lord.

“Smith Wigglesworth understood his position in Christ. He knew who was on his side (on his inside) and that if God was for him, none could be against him.”

1 John 4:4
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

Smith Wigglesworth was a great man of God who knew who he was in Christ. There’s a story told of
how, one night, he was awakened from sleep by a commotion in his bedroom. Half sitting up, he peered into the darkness only to be confronted by an awesome sight of a manifest evil spirit – a demon – sitting at the bottom of his bed. Satan knew this man. He knew he was being used mightily by God in signs and wonders, turning thousands of people to God, seeking his forgiveness and purposes in their lives.  Satan was intent on de-railing Smith through fear and intimidation. The story goes on to state that Smith Wigglesworth took one look at this manifest evil demon and said, “Oh, it’s only you,” and turned over going back to sleep!

Wigglesworth said many great things in his lifetime but among the best quotations recorded by the man is this: “I’m a thousand times bigger on the inside than I am on the outside.”  He knew the meaning of the words, “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” Smith Wigglesworth understood his position in Christ. He knew who was on his side (or on his inside) and that if God was for him, none could be against him.

Are you facing demons right now; trials and difficulties that fill you with fear?  Are you feeling small and insignificant against the mountains you face tomorrow? If that’s you then be encouraged to turn to the Creator and Author of your life – your Lord and God –  and, through Jesus Christ, claim that you too are a thousand times bigger on the inside than you are on the outside!

God-tracking is knowing who you are in Christ.

“Therefore, in the name of Jesus, I take a stand against these attacks of Satan and confess that I am bigger on the inside than I am on the outside.”

“Dear God, I’ll admit that I am intimidated by the trials I face today. It seems like every step I take I’m confronted by opposition. Forgive me, O Lord, for not taking a stand against the enemy of my soul. I have accepted Jesus as my Lord and Saviour and believe that he dwells in my heart by the Holy Spirit. Therefore, in the name of Jesus, I take a stand against these attacks of Satan and confess that I am bigger on the inside than I am on the outside. Amen.”

“If you feel overcome by the burden of responsibility and the load of labour come, and rest at the feet of Jesus. His joy is your strength.”

Nehemiah 8:10(b)
“Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

As we sat together in the prayer room, I looked around at the faces of those praying. Some appeared to be cheerful before the Lord as they prayed and rejoiced before their King. Others, however, were sombre and appeared to be fatigued. It was only Tuesday evening yet these dear ones seemed overloaded and weary. I noticed wrinkled brows and bloodshot eyes. I prayed, “Lord, lift these heads. Lift these hearts. Lift these heavy loads and restore garments of praise for spirits of heaviness.” Suddenly, I had a vivid impression in my mind’s eye of the Lord Jesus, sitting high upon a high rock looking down on us as we prayed. And he was smiling!

Jesus is called the Rock of our Salvation. He has overcome the enemy of our souls and is enthroned in glory, power and joy. He made a spectacle of Satan when he triumphed over him at the cross. By his death and resurrection, Jesus brought us life and peace. He is our immovable foundation when we are tossed about in the gale-force winds of life. By the Holy Spirit, he gives us love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control. In Gethsemane, for the joy set before him, Jesus endured the cross and saw himself exalted at the right hand of God. Jesus is smiling at you today. The joy of Jesus is the source of your strength that you may face the weariness of life.

Come to Jesus if you’re feeling weary and overloaded. If you feel overcome by the burden of responsibility and the load of labour, come and rest at the feet of Jesus. His joy is your strength. Indeed, something to smile about.

God-tracking is
something to smile about.
