Here’s wishing you and yours a truly hope-filled and blessed 2026. One thing I have learned, as I have tracked the plans of God throughout my life, is this: God’s new is always new, and in this New Year, I believe He is doing a new thing in your life. Be encouraged to live expectantly of God’s plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

In a world faced with terrorism, rampant secularism and Christian persecution and war, it’s so good to know that the Lord our God has made a way for us to walk in peace and hope. In Christ, we enjoy a surpassing peace; not peace as the world knows it, but a deep inner peace in whatever conflict we may face. And the hope that he has given us comes from the faith generated by the words of Jesus, the author and perfecter of our lives.

Jesus faced opposition on every side, yet he rested in God’s perfect will for his life even when it cost him his life on the cross. However, Jesus faced crucifixion in full confidence that the Spirit of God would raise him from the dead and seat him at the right hand of God in glory. We are called follow this example by fixing our eyes on Jesus and not on the difficulties surrounding us, gleaning from the faith his word produces in us.

God-tracking, therefore, is facing every new day and every new year and every new challenge with faith and confidence that he will guide us through troubled, needy times with great peace, in the hope of his good plans for our lives. Corrie Ten Boom said, “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.” If 2026 appears anything less than rosy from where you’re standing today, then don’t give up but look up into the eyes of Jesus and say, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

“I rest in the peace of Jesus and have faith in the hope that your word brings to my life.”

“Dear Lord, thank you for bringing me this far. As I face the New Year, I know that you will always remain faithful to your word to guide and bless me according to your great plans for my life. Help me, therefore, to faithfully track your plans and purposes by keeping my eyes on Jesus and acknowledging you in all my ways. I trust that you will meet my needs and open the doors to your purposes for me this year. I rest in the peace of Jesus and have complete faith in the hope that your word brings to my life. Amen.”

GOD-TRACKING IS FACING EVERY NEW DAY LIKE IT’S NEW YEAR’S DAY

 

Psalm 118:24
This is the day that the LORD has made;
    let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Every New Year’s Day we make a big deal of new beginnings – out with the old and in with the new. As we wave farewell to the previous year we look forward to fresh hopes for a new beginning. We search our lives and create New Year’s resolutions with the anticipation of improving our lifestyles. But, the truth be told, 1st January is just another day! And, for me, as the old song goes, Every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before.

Tracking our way through life often leads us to situations that leave us wanting or feeling disappointed. So often when things don’t work out the way we’d hoped, we feel let down. Perhaps this is how Simon Peter felt as, from a distance, he watched the Roman soldiers nailing his hopes to a wooden cross. He’d had such high expectations for their little band of revolutionaries under the leadership of the One he called the Christ.

“The Christ? Yea, right!” Peter thought to himself. “All those words about the coming Kingdom and all those miracles… If he was the Christ, why doesn’t he do as the Pharisees are shouting and come down from the cross?” Peter had given up everything to follow Jesus. He’d put his hope in the words of his Lord but now, as he watched the Christ die his hopes for a new life were dashed. But if Peter had truly discerned what Jesus was alluding to when he said, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up,” he would have understood that the cross was not the end of their hopes but the beginning. A new day was coming when the Christ would rise again!

Tradition has it that Jesus and his disciples sang Psalm 118 at the last Passover supper they ate together. On the eve of the crucifixion they would have sung the words, “This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Indeed, it was the eve of a new dispensation though before they could realise the joy of resurrection they needed to endure the pain of crucifixion!

As you face the New Year, dear God-tracker, you may have your own hopes for great new dreams. Indeed, God-tracking is based on the premise that God knows the plans he has for each of us – plans for prosperity, hope and a future. Though sometimes those hopes seem to become dashed remember joy comes in the morning. Every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before.

God-tracking is facing every new day like it’s New Year’s Day

 “Dear Father God, thank you so much for sending Jesus to die and rise again. If it weren’t for the new life he made available through his work then I’d be facing a future completely void of any hope. So as I face this New Year I choose to acknowledge you in every day of it. Guide me and help me to track your plans and purposes every single day, not just the bright new days of January. I commit this year to you and determine to seek first your kingdom and your righteousness, always. And as I face disappointments and let downs, help me to remember that every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before. Amen.”

Every Day with Jesus Is Sweeter Than the Day Before

What makes the 1^st January special? Why do we wait up all night on the 31^st December just to watch a clock tick toward midnight and then let off ear-shattering fireworks to usher in the New Year? Why do we put ourselves through the stress of partying and eating and celebrating just to see Big Ben strike 12am? As the American columnist and author Bill Vaughan once said, “Youth is when you're allowed to stay up late on New Year's Eve. Middle age is when you're forced to.”

But we do. Every one of us has an intrinsic desire for the new. We all hope that next year will be happier and more prosperous than the last. It could be that you have had a particularly bad year and, for you, striking in the New Year with Big Ben is like turning over a new page in the book of life. Bill Vaughan also said, “An optimist stays up until midnight to see the New Year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves.”

But surely the 1^st January is just another day? The sun will rise and set and life goes on. So as God Trackers therefore, I believe that we need not celebrate New Year as a special day; we need to celebrate everyday as a special day. If I am tracking God’s plans and purposes for my life then I should be focussed on reaching that every-day-goal of living for his purposes. Each morning when I open my eyes is a new year with new prospects. Each day, at daybreak, I should celebrate God’s plans for my life. Listen: “In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation,” (Psalm 5:3) and “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul,” (Psalm 143:8).

Why not make every day New Year’s Day from now on and celebrate each day tracking God’s plans and purposes for your life? Why not seriously seek the Lord and wait on him from the time you open your eyes in the morning? Find ways of de-cluttering your life so that you can spend more quality time in each day with friends and family. And why not become a “habitual praiser”, turning every situation into a praise offering to your Lord? As the old song that says, “Every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before.”
