Dear God-tracker
God-tracking is burning with the zeal of the Lord
A story is told of a pastor who led a small church in a small town. He was a good man but had grown cold in the zeal of the Lord, which was reflected in the congregation. In the town was a wealthy businessman whom the pastor repeatedly invited to the church, but to no avail. Late one Saturday night a fire broke out in the church. Sadly, the building became an inferno. People from all over the town arrived to observe the spectacle. Right in the front of the crowd was the wealthy businessman. “I’ve continually invited you to come to church but you always refused,” said the minister. “Why do I find you here tonight, at the front of the crowd witnessing this disaster?”
“Well,” replied the man, “I have never seen your church on fire before.”
How sad it is when Christians lose their zeal of first love. How easy it is for us, after having discovered new life in Christ, to fall back on our old ways and grow cold in the things of God. In the vision of the Revelation that Jesus gave John on Patmos he said, “I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.” The Bible tells us that it was the zeal of the Lord – the power; the passion of the Holy Spirit – that caused the virgin to conceive and give birth to Messiah. John the Baptist said that he baptized with water but that Jesus would baptise with the fire of the Holy Spirit. Sadly, many of us may start out our Christian walks with flair but soon lose our fire as indifference to God’s word creeps in.
It could be that you find yourself in a similar place today as the pastor in the story above. Maybe that spark has gone out of your relationship with the Lord or with church. Perhaps you’re trying really hard to hear from the Lord or draw people to Christ but just don’t seem to make any headway. If that’s you then stop trying to do it in your own strength and rest in Christ’s power. Be encouraged to turn to the Lord and fan into flame the gift of the Holy Spirit once again. Rise to new enthusiasm in Christ, through prayer. Ask the Lord to fill you again with his zeal. Once you’ve done this, step back from all your effort and watch as the fire of God will once again set your heart ablaze.

Jeremiah 20:9If I say, “I will not mention him, or speak any more in his name,” there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot.
Fave QuoteFrom Dudley's collection of quotes
“The fire of heaven can’t be second-rate, used fire, second hand, worn, losing its quality. God has only one kind of fire: ever- fresh, bright, flaming, leaping and brand new." --- Reinard Bonke
Don’t Give Up, Look Up!Look up and Fix Your Eyes on Jesus!
Set me ablaze again with a desire for the fire of God
Pray:“Oh Lord, I’m so weary. I feel as though I’m striving so hard to be the person you want me to be but seem to get nowhere. Please forgive me for my complacency. I am sorry of allowing the fire in my heart to go out. I turn to you right now and seek the fullness of the Holy Spirit. Thank you for your love for me. Thank you for your grace when I’m weak. Thank you for the joy of the Lord that is my strength. And thank you, dear God, for filling me again with the zeal of the Lord. Set me ablaze again with a desire for the fire of God. In Jesus’ name! Amen.”
