Dear God Tracker

Whose Hand Do You Live By?

Very early in his life Joseph knew that he was different to the rest of his brothers. Although he was the firstborn son of Rachael, Jacob’s favourite wife, Joseph trusted God’s special plan for his life. Very early in his childhood he’d come to seek the Lord most high. But now as he lay in the raw dirt of an Egyptian prison cell he wondered how that plan would ever become reality. He remembered those dreams he’d had so many years ago when God had shown him that he would become someone great. Even his brothers and parents would bow down to him. And yet, now as he tossed on his bed of dust, he prayed, “Ah Almighty God, how long will I lay here? I asked the cupbearer to remember me to the king when he was restored after his bout in prison; thank you for giving me insight to his dreams. However, I realise, O God, that my destiny does not rest in his hands or the hands of Pharaoh. In fact, I don’t live by my father or brother’s hands either. My life is in your hands, O Lord.” Joseph peacefully drifted into sleep.

The next day he rose early as usual and set about his duties as the warden’s assistant. It was not yet midday when he was called into the warden’s room. “Joseph, you have received pardon from the king,” he said. “It seems his cupbearer put a kind word in for you and Pharaoh wants to meet with you… something with dreams.” He unshackled Joseph’s feet and pointed him toward the exit. Joseph was soon to discover that Pharaoh had had some strange dreams about some cows and heads of grain and he was called to interpret these dreams. As it turned out, God gave him insight and, with integrity and submission, Joseph advises the king. Soon afterward Joseph was promoted from prison mate to prime minister of Egypt.

I deeply admire Joseph’s faith, endurance and integrity. You can read his account from Genesis 37 to the end of the book. Never do we read that he became vindictive or selfish in his ambition. Joseph had heard the word of God early in life and he held tightly to the dream God had planted in him. Even when he was stripped and thrown into the cistern by his brothers and then sold into slavery, we seem to read between the lines that this young man had confidence in God’s strategy. Joseph was under no man’s hand because he knew Gods’ hand was on his life. Joseph acknowledged the Lord in all his ways. Right through to the end, he submits to the hand of God no matter what his circumstances. Even while in prison he knew that he was under God’s hand and not under the circumstances. Joseph lived by God’s hand to the end. Today, dear God Tracker, I ask you, whose hand do you live by?

God-tracking is living by God’s hand.

Every blessing

Quote of the Week

A Sample of Dudley’s Fave Quotes.

“The purpose of your life is far greater than your own personal fulfilment, your peace of mind or even your happiness.  It’s far greater than your family, your career or even your wildest dreams and ambitions.  If you want to know why you were placed on this planet, you must begin with God.  You were born by his purpose and for his purpose.” --- Rick Warren

All Things Will Work Out For My Good

Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Pray
“Lord, sometimes I feel like I’m Joseph in his prison. I know you have called me and I know your hand is upon my life but so often I lose sight of this and begin looking at the “all things” in my life that seem to go wrong. I want to consciously take my thoughts captive and submit my circumstances to you. I confess that I do not live under any man’s hand – my livelihood, my circumstances and my future do not depend on any man’s decision. Lord, my life is in your hands. Help me to live by the same faith, hope and integrity that Jospeh lived as I trust you that all things will work out for my good. Amen.”
