Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS CHILLING OUT IN HIS PRESENCE!

Psalm 23:1-3
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake

Trev sat on the edge of his bed, alone that Thursday night. His wife and children had left hours earlier for a long weekend with her mother. His business had been doing well over the past 6 months, but along with an increase in sales came added responsibility and workload. Trev was a sole proprietor and responsible for a small staff of workers. Unfortunately, his staff were unreliable, resulting in him needing to cover for the work that needed to be done. Trev’s family was suffering the effects of his 16 hour days, adding to his burden. He began to shake uncontrollably. His palms sweaty with a ringing in his ears, Trev broke down. Stress.

Among other symptoms, the American Institute of Stress lists the following as signs of stress:

•    Neck ache, back pain, muscle spasms
•    Light headedness, faintness, dizziness
•    Ringing, buzzing or “popping” sounds
•    Frequent colds, infections, herpes sores
•    Difficulty breathing, frequent sighing
•    Increased anger, frustration, hostility
•    Depression, frequent or wild mood swings
•    Insomnia, nightmares, disturbing dreams
•    Difficulty concentrating, racing thoughts
•    Feeling overloaded or overwhelmed
•    Frequent crying spells or suicidal thoughts
•    Overreaction to petty annoyances
•    Excessive defensiveness or suspiciousness
•    Constant tiredness, weakness, fatigue

Stress is a great cause of emotional breakdown. Stress, resulting from work overload or excessive responsibility, can lead to untold physiological conditions and diseases like, heart disease, asthma and diabetes. Stressful events can alter the levels of hormones in the body and affect the immune system, resulting in a low resistance to infection and, at worse, cancer. Stress is a dangerous and unnecessary condition. As Christian believers, I believe, we do not need to endure the effects of stress. Indeed, there is every reason for us to not contaminate our minds and bodies with the excesses of pressured living.

One man who had every reason to be stressed was Jesus. He was hounded by crowds of people demanding his time. He spent every wakeful hour teaching and healing. He was mobbed by some who wanted to touch him, while plagued by others who wanted to kill him. So how did Jesus handle his stress? He took time out on a hillside in the Father’s presence. Jesus instructed us to not worry about our daily business and responsibility but to firstly look for God’s presence and purposes, then all we need in daily life will be added to us, too.

Do you feel a bit like Trev, today? Are you overloaded and undervalued? Do you wake up in the middle of the night in a sweat, wondering what will happen in the next few days? Do you find you’re continually conscience of business or social responsibilities; you feel guilty to relax? Are you short fused with loved ones and perhaps battling with mood swings? I’d venture to say that you’re stressed out! To you I say, cast your cares on the Lord, because he cares for you. I say, come to Jesus when you’re stressed, and he will give you rest. There is an old song my dear wife loves to sing. For you today, my stressed friend…

Times of refreshing, here in Your presence
No greater blessing than being with You
My soul is restored, my mind is renewed
There's no greater joy, Lord
Than being with You

God-tracking is chilling out in his presence!

Every blessing

Dudley
