“And while you’re waiting for God to open that door, praise him in the hallway!” I read the Facebook posting on my timeline and smiled. I immediately remembered what the scriptures say in Revelation. John the Apostle was given messages to the 7 churches of Asia Minor. He was told to write to the church of Philadelphia that what Christ opens no one can shut and what he shuts no one can open. Then he went on to say that God had placed before the Philadelphians an open door.

If we acknowledge God in all our ways and seek him in faith, then he will lead us according to the plans he has for our lives. In the process of tracking the course that the Lord lays before us, we often encounter so-called, “doors” of opportunity. In other words, we face various options to appropriate various opportunities that present themselves to us as open or closed doors. Sometimes these doors are way open and all we need to do is walk on in.

Sometimes, however, you may find yourself in a large palatial hallway with several doors (or opportunities) before you, all closed. It is here that you need to pause before grabbing the first available door handle on your own initiative to thrust the door open and wait. When God bolts the door, don't try to get in through the window. The will of God will never lead you where the grace of God cannot keep you. You need to wait on God and wait for God to orchestrate your circumstances to fall in line with his plans before you can walk through any doorway. It will soon become clear which door to pass through as the Lord directs you through his word and Spirit. And while you’re waiting for God to open that door, praise him in the hallway!

God-tracking is praising God while waiting for that door to open.

“My Lord, thank you for the many doors you have opened to me in my life. Thank you for all your blessings and opportunities. Yet today, I face several new opportunities that present themselves to me. I do acknowledge you in all my ways, O Lord, so help me to hear your voice and follow your bidding in making the most of the right opportunity, with wisdom. I give my future to you and choose to praise you here in the hallway, as I wait for you to open the next door in my life. Praise God! Amen.”
