Dear God-tracker
GOD-TRACKING IS GETTING UP TO KEEP RUNNING AFTER TAKING A FALL
1 Corinthians 9:24
So run that you may obtain it.
I watch mesmerised as Mo Farah prepares to run the 10,000 metres at the Rio
As a runner, I know the importance of training for a run. A runner needs to prepare well for a race. But no training can help prepare him for the falls that happen in a race. Every fall is unique and unpredictable. When an athlete falls on the track he has one of two choices: get up and keep running or try to make a surreptitious exit from the track.
By the Holy Spirit, Paul writes, “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.” This Christian life we live is like a long distance race – strenuous and thwart with obstacles. In my own humble race of life, I know what it’s like to take a fall. Having run for many years with confidence and pride, I took a stumble that almost wrecked my whole life. As I ran along my legs became entangled in pride and rebellion. Perhaps this is why we are told in scripture to lay aside sin which so easily entangles us, and run with endurance the race that is set before us. I had one of two options quit the race or pick myself up and continue running. Thankfully, by his grace and mercy, the Lord sustained me and helped me back to my feet so I could stay on track.
Have you had a fall in this race of life? Have you become entangled in pride or sin? Don’t give up, look up! Lift your head and fix your eyes on Jesus. Repent of sin and get back on track. And whatever you do, keep on running!
God-tracking is getting up to keep running after taking a fall.
God bless you
Dudley
READ ALL ABOUT IT!
1 Corinthians 9:24-27
Proverbs 16:18
Hebrews 12:1-3
Olympics. He’d trained for months for this race. He stands at start line waiting for the pistol to go off. He is confident. He can do this. Indeed, the competition is strong but he is ready for it. Crack! He’s off. Good pace. Middle of the pack. Lap after lap, he is doing well, then suddenly he feels the rough surface of the Tartan Track graze his elbow. He is on the ground! His elbow stung but not as much as the thought that he was out of the race. In an instant he is back on his feet, even before the last runner has passed him by. Mo Farah goes on to win the 2016 Olympic 10,000 metre race to the roar of an ecstatic crowd.
Don’t Give Up, Look Up!
Help me now to pick myself up again and keep running
Pray
“Dear Father, I am sorry for my pride and sin. I have taken a fall. I thought I was running well but then this happened. I confess, I looked away from my goal and became an entangled mess. I repent of sin. I now take my eyes off myself and humbly fix them on Jesus, the author of my life race. Thank you for your grace and mercy. Thank you for your forgiveness. Help me now to pick myself up again and keep running. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
