Dear God Tracker
After All, We’re All Going To Die One Day, Anyway.
Jonas was crippled in both ankles and feet so he was most grateful to his younger half-brother who would carry him across the road every morning to the temple gate, Beautiful to beg for alms as people came in to pray. This day he’d been at the gate since sunrise but had only received two copper coins. By the time midday came, Jonas was hot and weary, yet he was desperate to add a few more coins to those he’d gained over the week to give to his brother for food.
Just then he noticed two men approaching. He recognised them as part of that new group who believed in the man they claimed had risen from the dead. Perhaps they would be compassionate and give him some money. “Alms, alms. Please, I have not eaten in days.”
John noticed that Peter had stopped and was staring at Jonas so he turned back to join him. “Look at us,” said Peter holding out empty hands. Jonas was confused, but still expected a couple of coppers. “Silver or gold I do not have,” said Peter, “but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk." Then Peter took Jonas by the hand and lifted him up.
Jonas felt a warm flow course though his helpless feet and ankles. He jumped up and shouted, “I’m cured! Look, I can walk again!” Walking and jumping and praising God, Jonas entered the temple courts with Peter and John.
A great story as recorded in Acts 3 (though embellished a little by yours truly, I’ll admit). This was an outstanding miracle, indeed, especially because the man who was healed was an elderly gent; Acts 4:22 records that he was over 40-years of age. Given that the average life expectancy from birth in Roman times was about 25 (according to the University of Texas) it’s safe to say that it was rather unusual to see a miracle of this nature. Even the Sanhedrin, after arresting Peter and John for this act, noted that the man was elderly. When I read this story I’m always blessed and impressed to see Peter and John’s compassion, faith and obedience in praying for healing despite this man’s obvious age. After all, surely he would die soon, anyway?
Why is it that we are so reluctant to pray for our elderly folk to be healed? Why do we often catch ourselves praying, “Lord take them home in peace.” True, we all will die one day and when that moment comes I desire that it will be in peace, but I also desire that it will be painless and dignified. I do not want to lie on my deathbed one day, wracked with pain and discomfort only to hear people pray, “Lord your will be done.” In fact, Peter did pray the Lord’s will for this elderly guy and he was healed to new life! Let’s take example from this scripture precedent and always only pray for healing, no matter what the need, condition or age of the person we are praying for. After all, we’re all going to die one day, anyway.
God-tracking is not age restricted!
May the Lord bless and heal you today.

By Your Wounds I Am Healed
1 Peter 2:24
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.
Pray
“Lord, forgive me for being unfaithful in prayer. Help me to always only pray for healing; and as a Christian, I believe that even physical death is a healing. You are the Lord who heals, always. I believe that you have taken all my sins away and that I am healed of their effect. I ask you’ll give me wisdom and the word of knowledge when I pray for the sick to know how to pray. So, if I have faith for forgiveness than I will have faith for healing. For by your torn body on the cross I have righteousness and by your wounds I am healed.!” Amen, amen!
