“If natural wisdom is gained from
applied knowledge, then knowledge needs to be gained through humble learning
with pure motives. So, test everything and never be too proud to learn.”
Proverbs 11:2
When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.
A story is told of two ducks and a frog that lived
happily by a farm pond. They were very good friends and would play together
every day. When the hot summer days came, however, the pond began to dry up and
it was soon evident that they would need to move. This was no problem for the ducks,
because they could easily fly to another pond, but the frog was stuck. He
thought and thought until he came up with a plan. He suggested putting a stick
between the bills of each duck which he could hang onto with his mouth as they
carried him to another pond. The plan worked well--so well that as they were
flying along a farmer looked up in admiration and said, "Well, isn't that
a clever idea! I wonder which one of you thought to do that?" The frog proudly
opened his mouth and said, "I did..."
They say pride comes before a fall. Indeed. Looking at
the word “pride” I discovered a profound fact: “I” is found in the centre of
“pride”. Sadly, so many of us fall from God’s designed purposes for our lives
because we are so consumed by our ego – the big “I”. Unfortunately, we try to
design our own world to revolve around ourselves and become egocentric instead
of Christocentric. It’s only when I realise that I can do nothing of any
significance by my own strength that I realise that I can only do all things
through Christ who strengthens me.
Dear God Tracker, one way to counteract pride in our
lives is to develop a teachable spirit. You are never too old to learn. I once
interviewed a man in his 70’s for one of my radio shows who was busy writing a
thesis for his 9th PHD. We all desire wisdom, don’t we? I believe that natural
wisdom is applied knowledge. This means that you and I can only be wise once we
have learned a lesson. With understanding, experience is the best teacher. If I
am willing to humbly learn by my experiences – good and bad – then I will
become wise. The Bible tells us that wisdom from above begins with purity.
Purity checks the motive of the heart; it always asks the question, “Why?”
Jesus reminded us to have a childlike attitude. A child is always eager to
learn so that he can grow up to be big and strong, like his dad.
If natural wisdom is gained from applied knowledge, then
knowledge needs to be gained through humble learning with pure motives. So, test
everything and never be too proud to learn.
God-tracking is remaining humbly teachable with a pure
heart

Help
me to not lean on my own understanding but to walk by your wisdom
“O Lord I apologise for always relying on my own strength
for wisdom. I realise that true godly wisdom can only come through life’s
lessons with the Holy Spirit as my teacher. So, I submit myself to your lessons
in life, O Lord. I repent of ego and humble myself before you. I make a decision
to always retain a teachable spirit. Teach me your will; guide me in your
righteousness and help me to keep my motives pure in every decision I make in
life. Help me to not lean on my own understanding but to walk by your wisdom.
Amen.”
