Dear God-tracker

God-tracking is believing that you are GOD’s handiwork

Im told that our chromosomes contain all the genetic information that makes us human and unique. The Human Genome project was a project set up to discover how many genes make up each of the 46 human chromosomes. In this research it was discovered that the human genome contains approximately 3 billion base pairs of genes. The human genome is the map of genetic information that makes you a human being and not a monkey. And yet, Im told, that the genetic difference between humans and chimpanzees is up to only 4%. This implies that each of us is up to 96% similar to a chimpanzee. And yet, have you ever heard of a chimp that may have painted the Sistine Chapel ceiling, or written a play like Othello? Likewise, have you ever heard of a chimpanzee who has walked on the moon or deciphered his own genome, for that matter?

The Bible tells us that God is the creator of all that exists. He created everything from a subatomic electron to a supernova; from a virus to a blue whale. And God created you and me, just as we are. Listen: "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." It is also written that, in Christ, we are a peculiar people. Peculiar? Yes Indeed, if you know Christ then you are peculiar to him!

You are God's handiwork. He formed you in your mother's womb and has designed every day of your life. Some think that they are of no value but every person is unique and of supreme value to his Creator. The Lord God Almighty, who knit you together as an embryo, has foreknowledge of every moment of your life. He loved you so much that, while you were still a sinner, Christ died for you. And you do have purpose in this world, because nothing that God has made has no purpose. So step out in faith and lay hold of that opportunity, because, no matter what anybody says, you're worth it!

God-tracking is believing that you are Gods handiwork

I believe that this course is to bless me and prosper me. You say in the Bible that you know the plans you have for my future. Today I want to submit to your design and seek your perfect plan for my life. Help me to make the most of every opportunity, with wisdom. Dear Lord, thank you for those around me who love me. Dear God-tracker

God-tracking is collecting his trophies of grace

The priests still stood with the Ark of the Covenant on their shoulders in the middle of the muddied riverbed. A few hours earlier Joshua had instructed them to step out boldly into the flooding Jordon River saying that God would stop its flow so that the Israelites could cross over into the Promised Land. Obediently they had done so and had witnessed a great miracle as the waters of the flowing Jordon had piled up near the town of Adam, upstream. Now, as they waited their next instruction, they watched as twelve men came back to the middle of the riverbed to collected twelve rocks from where they stood. They then proceeded to pile these rocks up on the west bank of the Jordon as a monument to God’s provision; twelve trophies to remember how God had delivered his people from slavery, brought them through a desert wilderness for 40 years and across a flooding river on dry ground, into the land he had promised their forefathers - twelve trophies of God’s grace.

What is a trophy? In my book a trophy is an award for a race well run. A trophy can be a medal, a cup or a crown. When we receive a trophy we put it up somewhere in a place where we will see it and remember our achievement. This trophy is a reminder of persistence, excellence and success. Whenever we gaze at it, it motivates us to run the next race in such a way as to win the prize.

God has a purpose for your life. Perhaps he has made you a promise that he will take you on to his “Promised Land” for you, but you may still need to cross a flooding river to arrive there. As you face this challenge remember the great things he has already done for you so far in this race of life. Gaze upon God’s trophies to you and allow them to motivate you to run that race well. Then make your way across your next river collecting more memories of his provision, blessing and guidance and carry them on into battle on the other side as trophies of God’s grace.

God-tracking is collecting his trophies of grace.

29 November 2013

Dear God-tracker

God-tracking is looking back to see an open door

Diana Ross popularized the theme to the film Mahogany, which poses the question,Do you know where you're going to?” This song is packed with questions about life and goes on to ask, “Do you get what you're hoping for? When you look behind you there's no open door. What are you hoping for?” I think this song demonstrates a life made up of pipedreams, if onlies and what ifs. Sadly, many of us find ourselves caught up in the same guessing game, not sure where we are going to.

But as God-trackers, we should exercise a completely different approach to life, because we believe in the purposes of God. Indeed, without Christ I’d have no idea where I was going to, but since I confess Jesus as my Lord and God I can be confident that he will direct my path. God-tracking is based on the concept that God knows the plans he has for us (and only God knows these plans) and if we acknowledge him in all our ways then he will guide us according to these plans that he has for us. Therefore, I can commit my future to him in the hope that the doors his opens for me will work out for my good and his glory. And faith is being confident in things hoped for.

So, you can have hope for tomorrow. You can be confident in where you are going to. Even if you can’t see what tomorrow holds, the Lord has placed an open door before you; and what God opens no man can close! However, it takes faith to step out into the unknown, but as you do you will look behind you and see an open door. So dear God-tracker, acknowledge God in all your ways and you will know where you’re going to!

God-tracking is looking back to see an open door

God bless you

God-tracking is never looking for the shortcuts

15 November 2013

Dear God-tracker

God-tracking is never looking for the shortcuts

From my bedroom window I could see the police car parked out of sight, waiting in ambush for the unsuspecting motorist to skip the stop sign. A short one-way served as an access to our suburban street from the main carriageway a block away. It was the only way into the suburb at that point. If a driver took this access unintentionally he’d need to make a long winding detour to return to the carriageway. As I watched, a car came down the one-way and, not stopping at the stop sign, made an illegal U-turn and fled the wrong way back up the one-way. “You’re nicked!” I said out loud as the cop car’s blue lights flashed and sirens wailed.

In my walk with God I have discovered that if I acknowledge God in all my ways then he will always direct me on his path. This implies prayerfully seeking and confessing the Lord in every decision I make – every turn, every stop and every U-turn. I have discovered that, if I do this, I will inevitably wind up on the right road. However, there are the times when, although I’ve acknowledged God, I make a hasty wrong decision and end up turning off his pathway at that point in my life. However, because I have acknowledged God, he graciously leads me back to where he intended me to be, albeit the long way round. You see, dear God-tracker, if you go off-track there are no shortcuts back to God’s path.

If you find today that you have made choices outside of God’s will; or if you have not acknowledged God in a decision and find that you’re off his track for your life then don’t take another step without committing your ways to God. It could also be that you have acknowledged God in a recent decision but have attempted to take a short cut to his purpose. If that’s you then don’t try and force your way back to where you left the road. Seek God’s word and allow it to illuminate your path forward. Then follow God’s “diversion” signs until you come back to where you left your life’s track. You may even be astounded at the scenic view along your detour.

God-tracking is never looking for the shortcuts

Happy tracking

Dudley

God-tracking is enduring desert trails in father’s love

Dear God-tracker

God-tracking is enduring desert trails in father’s love

A young man approached John the Baptist to be baptised one morning. He was a confident young man and John knew him well. "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" said John. Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfil all righteousness." John proceeded to baptise Jesus. As Jesus came up out of the waters the heavens opened and a voice said, "This is my Son,21 whom I love; with him I am well pleased." Immediately after this incident Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the desert where he fasted for 40 days and where Satan severely tested the Son of Man. In his humanity, had Jesus not heard those words he may have failed that test. Yet, because he is the Son of God, the words of the Father - my Son,21 whom I love; I am well pleased - burned in his heart and drew him through his trial.

Tracking the plans of God will inevitably lead you into desert places where you your faith will be tried. However, God will always prepare you for hard times. Because God is eternal and because he knows your future, he is already on the other side of your tomorrow preparing your way and meeting your needs. I imagine that Jesus took much courage in his Father’s words while he was being attacked by Satan: “I love you, my Son. I am pleased with what you have become. You are ready for this calling; ready to be saviour of all mankind.”  The Word of God had prepared Jesus for all that lay ahead: the desert and the cross!

Today, if you are acknowledging God in all your ways and acknowledging  the lordship of Jesus then your Father God is saying to you, “You are22YouYYYYYYYY my son/daughter,21 whom I love; with you I am well pleased." Take courage from God’s love. Be strengthened by his joy over you. Walk in the faith (faith pleases God) that he will meet your needs and help you through every desert experience of your life.

God-tracking is enduring desert trails in Father’s love.

Every blessing

I feel as though I am trudging through thick desert sands in the heat of the sun, hungry and thirsty. And yet, I remember the words you spoke to Jesus before his desert trials and I take courage. In Christ, you call me son/daughter and you love me and are pleased with me. Thank you for the strength this gives me. Thank you that my hope is not in my own way forward but in the way you have already prepared for me; a place where you have already met me needs and fulfilled my dreams. My hope is in you and in you this hope will not disappoint me. Amen.”
