Dear God-tracker
God-tracking is living and moving and having your being in his
sovereign purpose
“In him we live and
move and have our being!” shouted the apostle above the din of dispute at the
Aeropaus in Athens. The Athenians were renowned for loving a good philosophical
debate. Paul had been wondering around the city while waiting for his friends
to arrive from Berea. As he walked he noticed that they were very religious in
Athens. He even came across an alter dedicated to the unknown god. The Aeropaus
was a place where men would gather to discuss the latest philosophical fads.
“This is the God Almighty who created the whole universe,” he said. “From one man he made every nation of men that they should inhabit
the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places
where they should live.”
I believe Paul was pointing out that the one true Lord God is.
That is, he is supreme, autonomous, self-determining and possesses exclusive
purpose. This reminds me of an analogy I once heard of how, up in the seas
around the frozen peninsulas of Greenland, great swathes of ice can be seen
floating in the water. Here you’d find huge icebergs as well as smaller blocks
bobbing in the ice-covered sea. On closer examination you would notice how the ice
seemed to flow in different directions; for some reason the larger bergs flow
one way while smaller blocks, another. The reason for this is the smaller
block, because they’re shallow, are tossed about by the great winds on the
surface of the artic sea while the larger icebergs, because they proceed deeper
down into the waters, are drawn along by the ocean currents beneath the
surface.
All our lives are subject to similar forces. On the surface, we’re
affected by the whimsical winds of every flimsy fancy. The superficial
influences of the world about us often nudge us about and push us to compromise
our standards or to follow their often hidden agendas. It’s when we feel the
breeze of attitudes and opinions of other people or the winds of change in the
circumstances of life that we begin to doubt God’s plans and his purposes. But
if the Lord has given you a word then nothing can ever change his purposes for
you. The Bible tells us that as the rain falls to the earth and produces a crop
for food before returning to the clouds, just so, when God speaks, his word
will not return to him without producing the purposes that he intended for it
to produce. God is sovereign. His purposes are exclusive.
In the Lord your God you live and move and have your being! His
word is the sovereign current running deep beneath the surface of your life. If
he has given you a word today then he will fulfil his plans for you tomorrow. Don’t
allow yourself to be swayed by the ever flimsy fluctuations of the winds of change
above the surface.
Keep your eyes on Jesus.
Every blessing

Don’t Give Up, Look Up!
Look up and Fix Your Eyes on Jesus!
“Dear sovereign
Lord, thank you so much for giving me your word. Thank you for the plans you
have for my life. Please forgive me for being swayed by the winds of opinion
around me and help me, I pray, to go with the deeper flow of your exclusive
purposes for my life, no matter what the opposition may be. I praise you that
you are holy and sovereign and confess that in you I live and move and have my
being. Come, O Lord, and do what you choose to do in my life. Amen.”
