More than 3,400 years ago Moses issued a decree to his people.
They had been subject to slavery under the Egyptians for about 400 years when
God raised up Moses to lead his people to freedom. Under his leadership, God
had inflicted 9 plagues on the Egyptians to force Pharaoh to free the
Israelites from slavery. The 10th plague was a plague of the death of the
firstborn male of every family in Egypt. But God planned to preserve his people
and commanded Moses to have each family kill a spotless lamb and place its
blood on the wooden doorframes of their homes as a guard against this final
plague. Having done this, the angel of death then passed over the Israelite
homes and their firstborn were safe. Moses’ decree was a lockdown of all the
Israelite homes until the danger had passed. If any had left the covering of
the blood of the lamb, they would die from the plague. This final plague
persuaded Pharaoh to free the Israelites from slavery. God’s people were saved
from death and freed from slavery by the blood of a lamb.
About 1,450 years later Jesus hung on a wooden cross, his blood
staining its grain crimson. He hung there alone – locked down and separated
from all who loved him. God’s one and only firstborn became the Passover Lamb
whose blood was smeared on a wooden cross. Jesus suffered the 10th plague of
death once for all. For all have sinned and come short of the fellowship of
God, the consequence of which is death.
We were all under slavery to sin, locked down by corrupt desire.
But God demonstrated his love to the world in this, while we were still sinners
(enslaved to sin) Jesus died for us. On confessing Christ as Lord and believing
that he died and rose again, we are set free from the lockdown of sin and come
into fellowship once again with the Father of Creation.
Under the COVID-19 pandemic, communities and nations were locked
down. People were separated from loved ones for fear of spreading the virus.
Under the pandemic of sin (of which we will all die) we were all locked down –
separated from the glory of God. But due to the lockdown of Jesus upon the
cross, we have been healed of sin and freed from its slavery. Just as the
shedding of blood by the Passover lamb both saved the Israelites from death and
freed them from slavery, so the shedding of Blood by the Lamb of God – Jesus
the Christ – has saved us from eternal death and freed us from the captivity of
sin.
Are you under the Blood of the Lamb? Have you placed his blood, so
to speak, on the doorframe of your heart? You and I are locked down under sin
and will die from its effect. Only by confession and repentance of sin and
pleading the blood of the Passover Lamb of God will we be freed from its
bondage and enjoy abundant life.

I
accept your act on the cross as a sacrifice to free me from the lockdown of sin
“Heavenly
Father, thank you for the blood of Jesus that has become the Passover Blood that
saved us from the results of sin, which is death. Thank you, dear Jesus, that
you willingly subjected yourself to the lockdown of the cross so that we, if we
believe in your death and resurrection, can be saved from death and freed from
the slavery of sin. I humbly confess my sin and repent of it in Jesus’ name. I accept
your act on the cross as a sacrifice to free me from the lockdown of sin. Come
into my life, O Lord as I surrender my life to you. Amen.”
