“If you know Christ as Lord then you have a responsibility to spread this Good News to those around you so that they too may have the chance to be infected with faith. Faith is contagious but we need to open our mouths before it will spread.”

Acts 5:42
Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.

Covid-19 has probably been the most universally transmitted viral infection the world has eve
r known. As the original strain has modified with every mutation, it has become increasingly contagious. We pray for those who have suffered the ills of this pandemic. We pray for healing, sustenance and restoration.

As drastic as this pandemic has been it has got me thinking about the gospel. The Scripture tells us that the word of God propagates faith. That is, faith becomes contagious if God’s word is spread. Faith is a very contagious commodity that, once contracted, will change a person’s life for the good, for good. The message of Christ is the Good News that Jesus took the consequences of sin upon himself when he died in our place on the cross. The grace of God is shown by Jesus’ death and resurrection and we are saved by grace through faith. Faith is contagious but, unlike Covid-19, contacting faith results in life not death! And this message is spread through the lips of those who have already been infected with faith.

Jesus commissioned us to be his witnesses throughout the world. If you know Christ as Lord then you have already moved from condemnation to mercy, from legal bondage to grace and from a death sentence to abundant life. If you know Christ as Lord then you are contaminated with faith, a faith that comes by the Good News. If you know Christ as Lord then you have a responsibility to spread this Good News to those around you so that they too may have the chance to be infected with faith. Faith is contagious but we need to open our mouths before it will spread.

God-tracking is spreading the Good News

Take me as I am. Today I choose to build my life on your words.

“O my Lord, thank you that the Good News of the message of Christ has developed faith in me. That Good News is the news that Jesus died and rose again to set me free from sin, Satan and death. Your word has commissioned me to spread this Good News at every chance I have. Help me to share my faith as much as I can. Help me to not cover my lips with my hand but share your word boldly. Help me to always be ready to spread the Gospel so that those around me will contract faith by my words. Amen.”

“So, like the humble lady with the issue of blood, be encouraged to have simple faith in the omniscient Spirit of God to heal, provide and guide.”

2 Corinthians 13:14
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

Now I know the Holy Spirit had not yet been universally poured out when the woman with the issue of blood touched the edge of Jesus’ tunic but I like to think she knew the healing power Jesus commanded came from the Almighty. Jesus had a reputation as a healer and preached the kingdom of God. The Holy Spirit, who is God, had come upon him at his baptism. This woman knew that Jesus contained the power of God to heal her. According to Jewish custom, because of her bleeding, she was unclean and anyone who touched her would be unclean until evening. So, without fuss and in faith, she privately called on the Lord in her heart and touched her rabbi. By his omniscient Spirit, God heard her cry and healed her body.

Since the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit of God has been universally given to all believers. If you know Jesus as Lord and Saviour as a born-again believer then you have fellowship with the Spirit of Almighty God, 24/7. In fact, the Holy Spirit of God takes up residence in your mortal body; your body becomes his temple. In his salutation to the Corinthians, Paul reinforces the Trinity and encourages the Corinthian’s fellowship – communion, companionship, intimacy – with the Holy Spirit.

So, like the humble lady with the issue of blood, be encouraged to have simple faith in the omniscient Spirit of God to heal, provide and guide. He is closer to you than your very breath. He hears the thoughts of your heart. Fellowship with him who is your counsellor, comforter, teacher and helper. He will never, never leave you or forsake you.

God-tracking is walking in intimate fellowship with God.

A Joy that Surpasses Happiness

“It may even seem at times that it’s the end of the world as you know it but deep within you, as you desire to track God’s will in Christ, you will always have a true inner sense of joy; a joy that surpasses happiness.”

1 Timothy 6:6
Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment.

Pastor and author, Clarence Macartney, in answer to the question, "Where is happiness?" once said , "Happiness is not found in pleasure. Lord Byron lived such a life if anyone did. But he wrote, ‘The worm, the canker, and the grief are mine alone.’ Happiness is not found in money either. Jay Gould, the American millionaire, had plenty of that. But when he was dying, he said, ‘I suppose I am the most miserable man on earth.’ Happiness is also not found in position and fame. Lord Beaconsfield enjoyed more than his share of both. But he wrote, ‘Youth is a mistake, manhood a struggle, and old age a regret.’”

What is happiness? Money can’t make you happy, many friends can’t make you happy, fame or status can’t make you happy and a life of pleasure can’t make you happy. I believe happiness is a state not a strife. In other words, happiness is not something we should strive for, rather it is the result of a state of contentedness. I have discovered that there is only one place true happiness can be found, irrespective of circumstances, and that is being content to walk in the perfect will of God.

God-tracking is happily desiring to walk with God and remain in his perfect plan, no matter what happens. His plans are for your wellbeing, peace and joy. He will never abandon you and will always meet your needs, in Christ. Be content with that. If you have completely handed over your life to love and serve God through Jesus Christ as Lord then you will be content with that and enjoy a journey of true happiness. This knowledge is, as the psalmist said, “Too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.”

Your walk with Jesus will take you through joys and sorrows. It may even seem at times that it’s the end of the world as you know it but deep within you, as you desire to track God’s will in Christ, you will always have a true inner sense of joy; a joy that surpasses happiness. Real happiness is contentedly walking in the will of God.

God-tracking is being happy with God’s track.

“Jesus made a spectacle of Satan when he triumphed over him on the cross. This is our victory as Christians.”

Ephesians 6:10
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.

I had been running for 10 minutes and had begun to work up a bit of a sweat when I heard my name being called. “Dudley! Hey, Dudley!” A large E-class Mercedes pulled up alongside me. Panting, I peered through the tinted windows and saw that it was John, a man who occasionally attended a church I once led. “Hi John, good to see you,” I said between gasps for air. “I’ve got a question for you,” he said. “Why did God create the devil?” Never before have I been asked such a deep theological question while out on an afternoon jog.

“Well,” I replied wiping my brow, “God did create all things, including the spiritual beings. So, he did, indeed, create the devil but he created him as Lucifer. Lucifer was a great cherub in heaven who was created holy and beautiful. He was apparently responsible for the worship of God in heaven. However, in Isaiah we read that pride was found in him and he sought to exalt himself above God. Therefore, God expelled him from heaven, as witnessed by Jesus. In Revelation, there is a verse that implies that Lucifer (now called Satan or the enemy) took one-third of the angels of heaven with him in his rebellion. These became known as demons.

“So, yes, God did create Satan but created him as an angel of worship. Sadly, pride caused his downfall. Satan then assumed opposition to God as the enemy of God. He became evil. He is the arch-enemy of anyone who desires to please God and follow his will for their life. But the good news is, God himself rescued us from the clutches of Satan when he came to earth as Jesus. Because Jesus is God in the flesh, he was sinless. And yet it pleased God to place the consequences of sin and pride upon Jesus at Calvary. If we repent of sin and believe that Jesus died and rose again, confessing him as Lord, we are freed from the clutches of our enemy. It says in Revelation that we have conquered Satan by the blood of the Lamb, that is Jesus, and by the word of our testimonies. Jesus made a public spectacle of Satan when he triumphed over him on the cross. This is our victory as Christians,” I concluded.

“Ok, thanks,” said John, promptly flooring the accelerator of his E-Class and driving off, leaving me with my mouth agape, yet satisfied that I’d answered his question.

“Jesus said that if we abide in him, and have his words abide in us, we can ask the Father whatever we wish, and it will be done for us. Therefore, we need to get into the word of God and get the word of God into us.”

Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

God’s word is the headlamp of my vehicle. On this journey of life, it is his word that illuminates the road ahead. The ancient writings of Scripture are inspired by the Holy Spirit. God’s word and God’s Spirit work together; the sword of the Spirit is the word of God. The word of God confirms the actions of the Spirit and the Spirit activates the word of God. Therefore, every decision in my life, every opportunity faced, every move I make needs to be underscored by Scriptures and driven by the Lord Holy Spirit.

This is why I love the Bible. I have been reading the Bible, every day, for the best part of 50 years. In the beginning, I could not understand what I read. The Scriptures seemed filled with confusing terms and unusual anecdotes. However, even in my early days while reading the Bible, often a verse would bounce off the page and cause my heart to skip a beat. The Holy Spirit, who is the God of the Bible, was shining his beam on my road like a voice behind me saying, “This is the way, walk in it.”

Jesus said that if we abide in him, and have his words abide in us then we can ask the Father whatever we wish, and it will be done for us that we may produce good fruit. Therefore, to be productive in life, we need to get into the word of God and get the word of God into us. We need to read it, pray, meditate on it, believe it, confess it and live it.

God-tracking is getting into God’s word and getting God’s word into you.

A NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:

The weekly publication of GodTracker will take a break for the flowing two weeks. I pray the Lord will continue to bless and guide you according to his plans as you continue to acknowledge him in all your ways.

Dudley Anderson.

“His plans are to give you a hope and future. Your Father loves you and, like any dad, desires the best for you. God’s best is good for you. In him there is a future for you, and your hope will not be cut off.”

Proverbs 23:18
Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.

Linda walked home from the meeting forlorn. She had such hope for this new job but the interview didn’t go well. Linda had prayed about the meeting and committed it to God but was not sure she had been successful. All she could do now was to hope. But hope seemed so elusive to her today. “Lord,” she cried, “how long will I need to wait for the answer?” Linda knew all she could do was wait in hope that her Lord would open the door. She took courage because God’s timing is always best.

In the Bible, the words hope and wait are interchangeable. In the Psalms we read, “I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word, I hope,” and “For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.” Isaiah puts it like this, “But they who wait (or hope) for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

God-tracking is based on the premise that God has plans for your life. His plans for you are for your shalom, that is your wellbeing, success and peace. His plans are to give you a hope and future. Your Father loves you and, like any dad, desires the best for you. God’s best is always good for you. In him, you have a future and your hope will not be cut off.

So, until you realise what you’re hoping for, wait for him to meet your needs and guide your footsteps. Wait on him in hope that he will open doors of opportunity according to the plans he knows he has for you. He is faithful and he will do it. And remember, faith is assurance of things hoped for.

God-tracking is waiting in hope for God’s plans to play out

“He brings you to his banquet under the flag of his love and prepares a table for you in the presence of your enemies... His love is your standard – your cover photo. The banner of God’s love defines who you are.”

Song of Solomon 2:4
He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love.

Most Social Media sites allow one to display a profile picture and a cover photo or banner. Mostly, the banner sits high up and behind the profile picture. The Social Media banner defines the profile.

During the conflict of war an army marches under the standard of their flag. The flag represents the nationality of the army at war. The soldiers fight to defend their flag. Their flag is their banner. The battle banner defines the standards of who the army is.

Jesus hung on a cross on a desolate hill outside the city gates. His body grotesquely disfigured, bleeding and wounded. Crucifixion was a violent degrading form of execution. It not only induced death but it represented scorn and ridicule. The cross of Jesus’ crucifixion represents our sin ascribed to Jesus. The cross is macabre yet, it is beautiful. On the cross, the sinless One became sin for us so that, in his death and resurrection, we might become the righteousness of God. God demonstrated his love for us in that while we were still far from him in sin, Christ died to reconcile us to God’s righteousness.

He brings you to his banquet under the flag of his love and prepares a table for you in the presence of your enemies. Jesus triumphed over the enemy and made a public spectacle of him, under the flag of the cross. Because of his love for you, nothing in all the universe can ever separate you from this victory. He is for you and if he is for you none can stand against you. The cross of Jesus is your banner. His love is your standard – your cover photo. The banner of God’s love defines the standards of who you are

“Though guiltless Jesus suffered the consequence of sin, which is death, as a proxy for you. When he rose from the dead, Jesus opened the way for you to know God’s grace and be reconciled to him. That’s love. That love is for you.”

1 John 4:16
So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

A certain medieval monk announced he would be preaching on "The Love of God." The following Sunday evening, as the shadows fell and the sunlight faded, the congregation gathered. In the darkness, the monk lighted a candle and carried it to the crucifix. He first illumined the crown of thorns. Then he brought the candlelight to the two wounded hands, then the marks of the spear wound. In the hush that fell in the cathedral, he blew out the candle and left the sanctuary. There was nothing left to say.

God so loved you and me that he sent his One and only Son, Jesus the Christ, to be wounded for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities. God demonstrated his love in this, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. God is love and Love loved us in a way we could never repay. When we had turned our backs on his presence, he graciously reconciled us to his side in love. In Christ, our old life of sin has been dealt with and we have become new creations, forgiven and cleansed.

Do you know this love? The wounds Jesus endured in his crucifixion – the beatings, the crown of thorns on his head, the spikes through his hands and feet and the spear in his side – were inflicted because of the sin of the world. Your sin was ascribed to Jesus on the cross. Though guiltless, Jesus suffered the consequence of sin, which is death, as a proxy for you. When he rose from the dead, Jesus opened the way for you to know God’s grace and be reconciled to him. That’s love. That love is for you.
