Dear God-tracker 

God-tracking is faithfully living by the spirit and not the flesh 

Jesus is the blueprint of God for your life. The Bible says that we have all sinned and corrupted his perfect righteous image in which we were originally created. Even though God sent us the Law of Moses, it was rendered powerless in that it was weakened by our sinful nature. Therefore, he sent Jesus, the Son of God, to reconcile us back to himself. Because Jesus is God in the flesh he is and was perfectly sinless. Even so, God’s plan was to allow Jesus to take the curse of sin when he died for us on the cross. You see, God imputed Jesus with your sin at Calvary so that you could be imputed with his righteousness upon by repentance and by faith. Only in Christ can you become the righteousness of God. Jesus in you is God’s original plan for your life. 

Many people think that they need to work really hard to earn God’s favour but this is impossible. God is so holy and so righteous that we would need to become exactly as he is in order to earn his favour. But Jesus is already exactly how God is, because Jesus is the image of the invisible God. Therefore, to be holy as God is holy, you and I need to intentionally repent of sin and then live by faith. The moment you truly admit to your failings you die to the old nature of sin. Then the moment you truly exercise faith you put confidence in Christ and then live by his righteousness.  

Jesus told us to seek first God’s kingdom and his righteousness. When you asked Jesus into your life God’s righteousness was put into your spirit-man, i.e. you were imputed with his righteousness. Therefore, when you seek God’s righteousness you are actually seeking to live by the newly created spirit-man within you and not the flesh-man on the outside. God does have a great and perfect blueprint for your life but you will only discover his plans by living by the Spirit, in faith.

Dear God-tracker 

God-tracking is gazing at tomorrow through the telescope of faith 

It was a cold dark winter’s night when I set up my humble telescope in the back garden to gaze at the stars. I love star gazing. I think the Lord gives us a taste of his glory and extravagance in the enormity of the galaxies. This night I trained my telescope on Saturn. Apart from earth, I think Saturn is the most beautiful planet in our solar system. As I twisted the focus knob the image began to take shape in my lens. I was completely awestruck by the tiny spectacle I saw of the second largest planet in our solar system with its magnificent rings. At its closest Saturn is 746 million miles away from my telescope, yet I saw it as clearly as though I were almost upon it.

Faith is telescopic! In Habakkuk 3 we read, “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Saviour.” From where the prophet was standing, the future looked pretty bleak. In his flesh, he may have wondered how in the world the Lord would restore his people. But even as he gazed into the future, Habakkuk knew that the Lord was already on the other side of tomorrow, meeting their every need. He was able to gaze into the distance through the telescope of faith and, as he did so, he declared, “The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights.” 

Perhaps you’re facing immediate difficulties today and feel that there is no way you’ll get through tomorrow. Maybe you’re wondering how you will ever overcome the astronomical financial mess you’re in. It could be that you’re praying for a loved one far off, who is sick in body or afflicted in soul. Well, if that’s you then allow me to encourage you to pick up your humble telescope of faith and look through those clouds and on to the stars beyond. The prayer of faith will make the sick person well. Jesus said that with God, all things are possible. The Lord Almighty who spoke the universe into being is the One who calls things that are not as though they are. Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of a life we cannot see, from here. All the great heroes of faith in Hebrews 11 all saw what they hoped for from a distance and welcomed the promises of God from afar. 

Perhaps from where you’re standing all hope seems a million miles away. If so then gaze through the scope of faith and, in prayer, lay hold of the promises of God by fixing your eyes on Jesus and not on your dilemma.

“Dear Lord, I admit that I’m in a mess at the moment. Somehow, from where I’m standing, I can’t see a way out of my dilemma, But, I know that you are already beyond the future and that you have already worked out this problem. So, I choose now to let go of my human reason and understanding and put my faith in your promises to meet all my needs according to your glorious riches in Jesus. I make a conscious effort to hold up the telescope of faith and focus on the answers to my prayers and not the reasons for praying. Lord, you are my all in all. Amen.”
