God-tracking is ALWAYS knowing that God knows IT ALL 

In 1985 an American singer-songwriter, Julie Gold was working as a secretary when she wrote a song that Bette Midler took to number one on the Adult Contemporary chart in 1990. The song talks about how peaceful the world would look from far away and has the refrain, “God is watching us. God is watching us. God is watching us from a distance.”  From a distance? 

Several years ago I was going through a particularly difficult time. I was overworked, under paid and totally stressed out. You know the feeling, when it seems everyone is ganging up on you (though they’re not really) and it feels as though you have no one to talk to. In the middle of my predicament my wife and I were invited to a meeting where a lady with the gift of prophecy was ministering. It was a small group so after her talk she spent a few minutes praying over individuals. When she came to me the Lord gave her a word of knowledge upon which she proceeded to describe all I was going through at that time, in detail. You must understand that I had not met this woman before that night and I’d not had any conversation with her prior to this moment. Added to this was the fact that no one else in that group, except my wife, knew of my situation. I can safely say that the Holy Spirit had indeed given this minister the information she was now sharing. At that very moment I realised, because she knew what I was going through I knew, God knew!   

Dear God Tracker, the Lord your God is not watching you from a distance, he knows what’s going on in your life at this exact moment. The Holy Spirit is as close to you as your own breath. In fact, God knows more about you than you know yourself, because he knows your future. The scriptures remind us to acknowledge him in every aspect of our lives and then to trust that he will direct the outcome of all we are and all we do, according to his purposes. And his purposes are always good! He will chart your path and tell you where to stop and rest. Every moment he knows precisely where you are. So come to Jesus and rest in his love, in his care and in his purposes.

God-tracking is always knowing that God knows it all.

God-tracking is like playing follow the leader with JESUS 

When I was a boy we used to play a game called, follow the leader. The game involved one boy becoming the leader while a bunch of others would follow him as he ran and walked and climbed over ever obstacle imaginable. The followers would follow the leader to the point of complete mimic, down to facial expressions! It was so much fun that even after the game had stopped we would continue imitating each other until we rolled on the floor with laughter. 

As Christians we are often called followers of Christ. This implies that we should be following not only the words Jesus spoke but his very behaviour. I believe that Jesus was a fun-loving guy who loved kids. Much of his teachings involved analogies of childlikeness. For instance, he once taught that the way to find God’s kingdom was with the heart of a child. Life can be fun if you allow Jesus to take the lead. Therefore, to be a God-tracker is to be a follower of Christ and to be a follower of Christ is to play follow the leader with Jesus. 

However, all too often problems come in our lives because we choose to do our own thing and don’t allow God to guide us.  When we trust in ourselves and in our own abilities we set ourselves up for problems. The Lord desires that we trust in him completely by following the instructions of his Word and the lead of his Spirit, always. We don’t always understand why certain things happen the way they do but even when things go wrong in life, we must trust that God is still in control. Therefore, we must rely emphatically on him and not lean on our own understanding. Sadly though, many of us do rely too much on our own opinions, so much so that we completely miss God’s best for our lives. 

God-tracking is like playing follow the leader with Jesus

Dear God-tracker

 

God-tracking is being willing to bend to God testing

 

The young pastor lifted his eyes from the hard concrete of the train station platform and looked again into the moistened eyes of the woman he called his wife. They were still deeply in love but they both knew it was over. Six years ago he’d left his wife and children and a flourishing Christian work to marry this woman, but in that time he had come to realise that, though strong, their love was wrong. These years had been extremely trying. There was no longer any blessing on his work and everything that could go wrong, had gone wrong. Initially he thought he could bend the scriptures to qualify his sin but to no avail. God’s Word stood strong. After much heartache and strife they had both come to realise that the only way to walk in God’s will again was to repent of their tainted love. Yet, the young pastor knew that, although he had sinned and done wrong, God was using his folly to train him in the school of life - all who God calls, God tests. This young man had endured 6 years of wilderness training and was now ready and stronger to return to the call of his Lord, with repentance. They said good bye as he boarded the train with a sad yet contrite heart.

 

Dear God-tracker, the scriptures are packed with scenarios like the one you have just read: Moses had the potential of becoming an ambassador for God’s people in Egypt but he killed an Egyptian and fled to the desert of Midian. It was here that he had his burning bush call to become the greatest prophet/leader Israel has ever known. King David committed adultery with Bathsheba and endured heartache until he came to repentance, after which he was called the apple of God’s eye. Bold Simon Peter who had acknowledged Jesus as the Christ and had pledged his undying elegance to his Lord had turned timid after Jesus was arrested and flatly denied him three times. Yet after Peter’s repentance Jesus reinstated him as primary leader of the first Church, ever.

 

If you feel as though you are going through a desert experience because of a bad choice or because you have sinned then rest assured God is testing you. Taking the examples above, repent and recommit yourself to tracking God’s purposes. Sometimes, as only God knows how, God himself will burn off the deceit, immoral ambitions or foolish behaviour of the ones he calls for his ends. So believe me when I say, those God calls, God tests, because a contrite heart he seeks.

 

God-tracking is being willing to bend to God testing.

God-tracking is facing life’s trials BY God’s strength of character

 

The young couple had waited long to fall pregnant so when little Jim was born he was the apple of his dad’s eye. All appeared well at Jim’s birth. But sadly just 4 weeks after his birth baby Jim contracted a virus, which was initially diagnosed as mere conjunctivitis. As little Jim’s temperature soared the young couple developed an uneasy feeling, so they sought further medical advice. With temperatures soring he was admitted into the children’s ward of the local hospital. The medical staff did all they could to control the baby’s rampant temperatures, but to no avail. The virus spread uncontrollably throughout his system until Jim was diagnosed with septicaemia. His little body just could not cope with the stress and Jim stopped breathing. An emergency crew was scrambled.

 

Dave, Jim’s dad, had a faith in God but, filled with questions, his faith had diminished over his teenage years. In fact, he had hardened his heart so that even his wife’s conversion couldn’t bring him back to the Lord. Dave was of the belief he could weather any storm life would throw at him by his own strength, that is, until this test. On that formidable night, when the emergency services were trying to resuscitate Jim, Dave forgot his stubborn ways and dropped his guard. He opened his heart and realised that no man could deal with such adversity without the strength of the Lord. Dave and Jim’s mom prayed. He had never understood the power of prayer until then and, there in the darkest place he has ever been, Dave felt an unimaginable and supernatural peace. A confidence came over him. He knew Jim was going to be healed and he knew God was - and always had been - with him.

 

In Romans chapter 5 the Bible tells us that we ought to rejoice in our sufferings because suffering produces perseverance and perseverance produces character and hope. Hope will not disappoint us because this hope does not rely on our own natural character but on the nature of God that produces enduring strength within our characters. That is, if we face the hard knocks of life by God’s strength and not our own then he will develop enduring character within us. But this process would not happen if it were not for the difficulties of life that we all face from time to time.

 

Little Jim was resuscitated by the children’s ward emergency team and rushed off to intensive care. His dad and the rest of the family prayed for his healing and, miraculously, Jim recovered within 24 hours, unheard-of given his state. Two miracles occurred that day. Not only was a little baby saved by the healing touch of God but a young dad’s character was transformed by God’s grace and might.

Dear God-tracker 

God-tracking is Knowing You Belong to Him 

I have discovered that the Bible is jam-packed with amazing verses that I call, Look-up Verses. These are scriptures that place two fingers under our chins and lift our heads up off of our difficulties and disappointments. One such verse is found in Isaiah 43:1 which says, “… don't be afraid. I have rescued you. I have called you by name; now you belong to me.” 

Like so many of us these days, I was made redundant from my job several years back. I was among 15 people who lost their jobs; all of us left out in the open. I’d been working for this company for 7 years and, to say the least, I was very disappointed that all my effort had all come to a full stop. The company was gracious enough to give us all a severance package but this helped nothing toward that feeling of despair. I was very afraid that Monday morning when I woke up and realised that I was unemployed. I was afraid that I’d not get another job, afraid that I’d use up all my savings and afraid of what other people may think of me. I called on Jesus. 

To this day I’m not sure how God provided but he did. Eventually he opened a new opportunity for me in ministry, which has grown to what I am doing for him today. My Lord rescued me. He called me by name and reminded me that I was his. Our God is faithful. 

Perhaps you face some difficulties today. It could be that you have been disappointed or discouraged and feel afraid of the future, as I was. If so then know this, God himself will watch over his word to you to make it happen. There is nothing you can do to cause God’s promises or his purposes to occur in your life, except to acknowledge him in everything and have faith that he will direct your paths. God’s Word to you will never return to him without producing the results that he has intended for your life. You are his dear child and he will rescue you from all harm; no one can snatch you from his hand.

God-tracking is knowing you belong to him.
