In his book on near-death experiences, Imagine Heaven, John Burke writes, “He alone knows who he created you to be. He alone knows what a successful life uniquely means for you, not compared to others but compared to what he had in his mind before he created anything! I believe the reason people having NDEs say, ‘I feel like I’d been here before,’ or ‘I feel like I already existed,’ is because they did exist in the mind of God, eternally.” ¹The scripture makes it clear that you and I were already in the mind of God before we were conceived. God is omniscient, that is, he knows everything about everything. God is also eternal, which means that he encompasses space and time. Therefore, there is nothing about anything that God does not know, past present or future. He knew your name before the creation of the world. And God knows every nuance of your life, past, present and future. This is great news because it means that you, and I, can rest assured that the circumstances of our lives are wrapped up in his knowing. And if he knows all about you then you can be sure that your life will work out according to the plans he knows he has for you.

The only thing that could distort God’s plan for your life is your own choices. The one auspicious privilege that God has given mankind is free will. So today, make it your choice to follow God’s plans for your life by acknowledging him in all your ways. Scripture assures us that if we acknowledge God in our walk of life then our life’s track will line up with his eternal knowledge of us. Acknowledge God by receiving Christ as Lord and acknowledge God by renewing your mind daily through his holy word. Do this and you will track his will for your life.

You are one of a kind. God has a unique purpose for you. He is acquainted with all your ways. So, pray with the psalmist, “Search me, O God, and know my heart. And lead me in the way everlasting.”

God-tracking is knowing he is acquainted with all your ways.

Don’t Give Up, Look Up & Pray

“Thank you, O Lord, that you search me and known me. You are acquainted with all my ways.”

“Dear eternal God, I acknowledge Jesus as my Lord and savour and I acknowledge that you have knowledge of my whole life. I believe, because you encompass space and time, you already knew me before I was conceived. So, dear Lord, I commit all my life to you. He Knows Your Tomorrow

Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face evermore!

Roy had been married to his wonderful wife, Carol for more than 45 years when she was diagnosed
with cancer. She was his stalwart, the pillar of his very existence. Roy was the pastor of a small yet thriving church. He was its visionary and spiritual strength but Carol was the one who held it all together. How would he ever survive if she passed on?

Weeks and months passed. Carol’s prognosis was dire. Chemotherapy had taken its toll. Sadly, after a tough battle with pneumonia, Carol passed away. Roy was devastated. How would he cope? He had always rested in the counsel of his Lord and now, more than ever, he called on Jesus for strength and hope.

“Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his face evermore,” he read. “Remember his marvellous works which he has done.” God’s word was Roy’s hope. He remembered the many good years when his Lord had strengthened him through adverse circumstances. Carol by his side, he had faced gruelling opposition to his ministry. Together they had faced times of need and hardship, yet their Lord had never abandoned them; his love, grace and provision had sustained them through it all. “Lord, Carol is not with me anymore, but I know she is with you. Though separated by the great divide, I know we’re still together, in you, and soon I will be by her side again. I remember your marvellous works, O Lord, and seek your face for today and tomorrow,” Roy prayed.

Loss, depression, disappointment and bereavement face us all from time to time. It could be you’re presented with a situation today where you’ve lost the one thing that held your head above the raging tides. As Roy did, I encourage you, in your dilemma, to seek your Lord’s face evermore. Remember how he guided you through hardships in the past and trust that he will do the same again. He who knows your tomorrow will guide you through today.

God-tracking is seeking his face evermore.

Captain, My Captain

“God showed himself as God Almighty to Abraham yet as I AM to Moses. Abraham knew God as a the mighty supreme Being while Moses discovered God as personal Adonai.”

Abraham was one of the first Bible characters recorded to hear from God. He was brought up as a polytheist pagan. He had no relationship or understanding of the Lord God until God appeared to him. God had a plan to raise Abraham up as the father of the Hebrews. The Hebrews came to believe in only one true God, the Lord Almighty. And that is how God revealed himself to Abraham. God challenged Abraham’s polytheistic worldview by revealing that he is the One and only Almighty God – El Shaddai. The name El Shaddai describes God as universal creator, highly exalted and supreme to all other gods and creatures. Abraham knew God as an omnipotent impersonal yet benevolent deity.

Moses came along many centuries later. He was also raised in a polytheistic environment yet, because his parents were Hebrews, he understood who El Shaddai was. One day, while he was exiled to the wilderness because of a crime against Egyptian law, Moses had an encounter with El Shaddai. However, when Moses enquires of God what his name is (remember, he was raised polytheistic) the Lord answers, “I AM WHO I AM.” Directly translated, this name refers to YHWH or Yahweh. This is the most sovereign and personal name for God, yet, as implied by the expression, I AM WHO I AM, the name Yahweh reveals God as a personal, caring deity.

God showed himself as God Almighty to Abraham yet as I AM to Moses. Abraham knew God as the mighty supreme Being while Moses discovered God as personal Adonai. (The name Adonia is related to the name Yahweh. Adonia means Lord, my lord, like captain my captain.) Jesus used the name I AM when referring to himself. For instance, he said, “I am the bread of life.” The Lord El Shaddai revealed himself to Moses as a deity he could personally call his God.

El Shaddai reveals himself to you and me as a deity we could personally call our Lord and God through Jesus – Captain, my captain. Today you can call him your personal Lord and Saviour. Today, you can come to him and never go hungry; if you believe in him, you shall never thirst.

God-tracking is a personal relationship with Yahweh.

“Dear God Almighty, thank you for revealing yourself as I AM through Jesus. Jesus said I AM the way, the truth and the life. Today, O Lord, I choose to follow the way of Jesus; I choose the truth and the life that he offers. I accept and acknowledge Jesus as my personal Lord and Saviour. Thank you, Yahweh, for calling me to intimately walk with you as Moses did. Amen.”
