Dear God-tracker
There
once was a man who cared for the two orphaned sons of his brother after their
parents died in a motor accident. Paul was a kindly uncle who treated both of
his nephews fairly, with love and respect. As the boys grew it became clear
that the younger lad was more adventurous than the older. He would squander his
pocket money and often fall prey to foul play at school. Uncle Paul would often
need to call the youngster to account and council him on the hazards of wild
living. Paul spent hours praying for and talking to the younger brother,
however, loved both of these boys equally.
Through
time, as they grew into young men, the older brother began to complain that his
sibling was Paul’s favourite. “You’re always spending time with Roger,” he
said, “you never seem to notice anything I do. I worked hard at school to earn
your favour; I’ve never been involved in anything untoward and I’ve set about
to follow a commendable career. Yet, it seems, you don’t even know what I’m doing
with my life.”
“Ah
Peter, you’re right,” replied his uncle. “I have put a great deal of effort
into your brother’s upbringing, but he needed my guidance more than you did. I
love you just as much as I love him. It doesn’t mean that, because I paid more
attention to Roger, that I have ignored you. I have watched you with pride and
know about everything you’ve ever set your hand to do. I know you more than you
know yourself and will always, always be there for you when you need me.”
Sometimes
this scenario often plays out in our relationship with Father God. I don’t know
about you but I often find myself complaining to God that he doesn’t pay enough
attention to me. I find that I compare myself to others at church or in the
family and think that God is unaware of all the good things I do in life. When
those around me are in need I witness how God provides for them. When those
around me are going astray I notice how the Holy Spirit draws them back to
God’s word. Well, what about me? Has God forgotten all about me? Does he even
know me or see what I do? Are my ways hidden from the Lord?
In the
days of calamity, when Israel was faced with foes on every side, they witnessed
what seemed to be God’s favour visited upon their enemies. Israel complained, “My way is hidden from the Lord; my cause is
disregarded by my God.” Yet The Lord reaffirms through the prophet Isaiah that he,
who does not grow weary, is full of understanding. And then there was King David. He was a man who served the
Lord with integrity yet he too witnessed how others around him seemed to be
blessed by God. But then he says, “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.”
God the omnipresent and omniscient One does know all
about you, dear God-tracker! He knows when you rise and when you fall. He knows
your needs and your wants. He knows your achievements, your failures, your
disappointments and your joys. It may seem to you that he takes no notice of
you and seems to bless others around you, but know this: God knows even the
very number of hairs on your head! Rest assured today that the Lord your God
knows precisely where you are on your track of life and he is walking along with
you every step of the way. So try not to compare your life to those around you;
if God is their God then he will call them to account for their own lives. Just
keep your eyes fixed on Jesus and your ears open to his command.
Stay blessed
Dudley

I believe… you are personally involved in
every aspect of my life
“Heavenly
Father, I realise now that you know all there is to ever know about me. Thank
you that you care for me, even when it seems that you’re silent. In fact, it’s
when you’re silent that I believe I have no reason for concern, because it’s at
those times that I am walking quietly within your will. Help me to not compare
my life to others’ lives and I’m sorry if I’ve ever done so. I believe and
confess that you are my personal Lord and Saviour and, as such, you are
personally involved in every aspect of my life. Amen.”
