GOD-TRACKING IS KEEPING YOUR EYE ON THE BALL

My son, Ryan is a sports lover, so I wasn’t surprised at the image the Holy Spirit gave him as he sat behind the drums at church one Sunday morning during the worship time. “I just had a picture from the Lord,” he called out to the congregation during a lull in the singing. “I saw a fielder in the outfield on the cricket pitch during an exciting game. He was looking upwards with his hands outstretched, ready to make a catch. The sun was in his eyes and the jeers and cheers of the crowd were in his ears. The home crowd were screaming, ‘Drop it!’ but the fielder cut himself off from all distractions around him as he kept his eyes on his prize.”

The interpretation of Ryan’s picture was clear. Sometimes we find ourselves in the outfield of life, frantically backpaddling as we attempt to grab hold of God’s purposes, while the world shouts, “Drop it!” Jesus had an experience like this. The Bible tells us that at his baptism he was affirmed by God as his son whom he loved. After this, he was led into the outfield of the desert to be tempted by Satan. Jesus had his eyes on the prize of God’s Kingdom purposes, but as he drew near to the barrier to make his catch, the devil jeered and shouted, “If you are the Son of God then…” Thankfully, Jesus was not distracted by his temptations and went on to fulfil the plans of God.

“I know the plan I have for you,” says the Lord to you today, dear GodTracker. Indeed, he does have a purpose for you to interact, impact and influence many, many people for his cause through the course of your life. But your enemy, the devil, will appear in many guises to distract you and attempt to you to take your eye off the ball. You are called to walk by faith; and faith pleases God. So, take Jesus’ example – look to the author of your faith – and keep your eyes on the prize.

DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY

I take my eyes off the world and shut my ears to their taunts, and I commit myself to walk by faith

“O Lord, the distractions around me become overwhelming at times. I’m sorry for taking my eye off the ball; help me to keep my eyes on the prize. When the world jeers and mocks, help me to remain true to your call. When the devil lures and temps, help me to remain true to the faith. Lord, I put my faith in you that you will fulfil your plans for my life. Lord, I acknowledge you in every aspect of my life and trust you to direct my paths. I take my eyes off the world and shut my ears to its taunts, and I commit myself to walk by faith. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
