So, keep your eyes on Jesus and your nose in God’s Word. Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful with thanksgiving. Your Master has good things in store for you. Keep your eye on his hand.”

Proverbs 8:34
Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors.

When I grew up, we had a family pet dog called Nibs. Nibs was a cross boxer/ridgeback – a big old

brown softie. I loved wrapping my arms around his thick neck and squeezing the life out of the poor mutt. He was a canine of great endurance. Like all dogs, Nibs loved food. Whenever I sat out in the garden eating a snack, he would sit watching my every move in the hope that I would drop him a crumb. He would fix his gaze intently on my hand holding the snack with ears pricked and eyes fixed. Left, right, up, down, whichever way I moved my hand Nibs would move his head in unison. My dog was waiting and watching his master’s every move, trusting that he would be rewarded for his enduring patience.

GodTracker is based on the concept that God knows the plans he has for us. In Jeremiah, we read, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” In Isaiah, we read that those who wait for the Lord will renew their strength and soar like an eagle. The word “wait” can be interchanged with “hope” or “watch with patience”. And Jesus instructs us to watch and pray.

Therefore, as we seek to explore the plans God knows he has for us – God’s will – we are exhorted to patiently watch every move of his hand, as a dog watches his master’s hand, in the hope of fulfilment. So, keep your eyes on Jesus and your nose in God’s Word. Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful with thanksgiving. Your Master has good things in store for you. Keep your eye on his hand.

SO, DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY

I watch your hand for the fulfilment of your plans for my life

“Dear Abba Father, I know you have good plans for my life. I believe you reward those who seek you in faith. Thank you for the good things you have in store for me. Like a dog watching his master’s hand for a morsel, I watch your hand for the fulfilment of your plans for my life. Help me to be patient. Help me to be diligent and ready to move to follow your instructions. I keep my eyes on Jesus and, in prayer, my nose in your Word. Amen.”

GOD-TRACKING IS SEEKING GOD’S PLAN EVEN UNDER YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES

Psalm 30:5(b)
Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.

“I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord, “plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Words given to the prophet Jeremiah regarding the return of the Jews from Babylonian captivity. Nebuchadnezzar had invaded Judah and taken swathes of its people captive. However, Jeremiah was still among the remnant left in Jerusalem, when he wrote these words; he was writing to those already taken to Babylonian. The future must have seemed bleak for these people, now living under the violent and cruel regime of Nebuchadnezzar. I can imagine them reading this letter from Jeremiah with a hint of cynicism. Jeremiah had prophesised doom and gloom upon them in the first place, now he was offering words of hope for prosperity and restoration. “How can the prophet expect us to have hope for the future,” they may have complained. “We’re slaves in a foreign land with no prospects!” But then they look a little further down the scroll and read, “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”

God’s plans for you are real. God’s plans for you are sure. His plans are for your wellbeing with hope for a good future. You may find yourself under adverse or severe circumstance now, and read these words with scepticism. It may be your marriage is in tatters or your career has collapsed. You may find yourself a slave to debt or facing financial ruin. But knows this: God knows the plans he has for you! Jeremiah’s people had taken their eyes off God but God never abandoned the ones he loved. He promised to rescue them from their despair, if they would only choose to seek him with all their hearts. Sometimes God allows us to drift so that we eventually realise how much we need him. The psalmist said, “His anger is but for a moment, and his favour is for a lifetime.” So, whatever your dilemma, make a conscious choice today to take your eyes off your circumstances and seek the purposes of God, by faith. Come to him today and believe that he is with you in your quandary. Seek his purposes, even under your circumstances. God rewards those who seek him with all their hearts.

The Babylonian captives were suffering the consequences of their rebellion. However, they had men like Daniel among them and so, with the words of the prophet Jeremiah ringing in their ears, they repented of their sin and sought first God’s kingdom and his righteousness. Seventy years later, under the leadership of Ezra and Nehemiah, God brought his people home and restored their fortunes. After all, God had a plan!

God-tracking is seeking God’s plan even under your circumstances.

Be filled with the Holy Spirit

Don’t Give Up, Look Up!

Lord I acknowledge you in all my ways and trust you to direct my paths, even under these circumstances

Pray
“Dear Lord, I’m so sorry for taking my eyes off Jesus and looking down, under my circumstances. Today I choose to not give up but to look up! I repent of any wrong or rebellion I’ve been guilty of and seek first your kingdom and your holiness. I acknowledge you again in all I do and all I am: in my marriage, in my relationships, in my career, in my church, in my finances, in my recreation; Lord I acknowledge you in all my ways and trust you to direct my paths, even under these circumstances. I seek you with all my heart! Thank you that you have a plan to rescue me and restore me to good fortune. I put my faith in you. Amen."
