“Only by faith in the grace of God can you and I realise our hopes and dreams. Hope is your anchor while faith is your tether. So, hold fast to the confession of your hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.”

Hebrews 6:19
This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil.

We have a pub in our town called, The Hope and Anchor. It was once for sale and I had the idea of purchasing it and turning it into a friendly coffee shop. With a name like that, it would lend itself as a home for those in the community who hoped for a fresh start to life. I would have called it The Real Hope and Anchor.

Scripture tells us that faith is the substance in things hoped for. It also says, “But hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.” Hope is anticipatory. That is, it anticipates the fulfilment of a dream or the answer to a prayer. Without hope, we can have no faith. When I climb aboard an Airbus 380 to fly across the Atlantic Ocean, I have hope that the plane will land safely on the other side. The substance of that hope is my faith in the pilot to do his job well. If hope is the anchor, then faith is the chain that keeps tethered to the vessel.

Christ in us is the hope of glory. Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, was sinless. Yet, God his Father ascribed to him the sin of the world. On the cross, Jesus became sin for you and me so that, in him, we might be ascribed the righteousness of God. If we confess our wrongdoing (our sin) then God who is faithful and just, will forgive us and cleanse us from all sin. Only by faith in Jesus’ death and resurrection do we have any hope to be good. Jesus, our High Priest, passed through the veil that separates you and me from the glory of God, to intercede for us. And that’s God’s grace manifest. Grace is God’s doing. Only by faith in the grace of God can you and I realise our hopes and dreams.

Hope is your anchor while faith is your tether. So, hold fast to the confession of your hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.

God-tracking is our hope and anchor.

“Dear Father God, thank you that Jesus took my sin at Calvary that I may be forgiven and made righteous. I praise you for your grace that made this possible. I place my hope in that grace, grace that saved me and grace that empowers me to life and living. I have faith in you in that, that which I hope for will be realised in my life because of your grace. Today, I tether my life to the anchor of hope, by faith. Thank you, Jesus. Amen.”

“The King loves you so much that when you find yourself facing the threat of checkmate, he has one more move to rescue you from the grip of your opponent. Call on him today.”

Colossians 2:15
Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.

I’m no good at chess. Sadly, I’m not a very observant individual. My wife can come home from a large meeting and list the names of each person in the group and where they sat. Not me. So, when it comes to playing a gruelling game of chess, I usually lose my queen within the first 5-minutes of the game because I don’t observe the danger of her next move. Needless to say, I very soon find myself in checkmate with no moves left for my king.

Life’s a bit like a game of chess. We can face opposition to every move and, if we’re not very observant (like me), we can often find ourselves thrust into a corner with no moves left. Thankfully, as a follower of Christ, I submit my life’s moves to God. And he, by his omniscience, omnipresence and omnipotence, is observant. Graciously, he observes my every move. More than that, my King observes every move of my opponent and is aware of his plans to drive me into a corner on the great chessboard of life. Thankfully, every time my opponent calls out, “Check!” my king has one more move.

Jesus Christ was thrust into the corner of his chessboard. He was hung on a cross and crucified by the ones he loved. But his great King, God his Father, had one more move. Jesus Christ rose from the dead, triumphing over the opponent of life, and made a spectacle of him through the cross.

Do you know the King of kings? Have you resigned your life to the only one who can get you out of a corner? His name is Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Son of the Almighty God and one with him. The King loves you so much that when you find yourself facing the threat of checkmate, he has one more move to rescue you from the grip of your opponent. Call on him today.

(Please pray the prayer below if you can relate to what has been said.)

“Dear God, I’ve come to my wit's end. My opponent has pushed me into a corner and I don’t have any moves left. So, I call on the name of Jesus, my King. I am sorry for the things in my life that displease you – the sins I’ve committed. I believe that Jesus died to pay the price for my sin and believe he rose from the dead to open the way for my next move – a move into eternal life. Jesus, come into my heart as I commit my life to you. Amen.”

“Every breath you take is a new breath. You cannot live on old air. God is a God of the new. In Christ you are a new creation, all things have become new.”

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

The interesting thing about a prophetic word is, it endures. Prophecies written thousands of years ago still apply to your and my life today. For instance, when prophesying to the people of God about their return from exile, the prophet Isaiah used the phrase “new things” several times, saying things like, “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” Today, you and I can read these words and receive them personally, for God’s word endures forever.

The gift of prophecy did not cease to exist at the completion of the writing of the Old or New Testaments. Prophecy, as a gift of the Holy Spirit, is still in operation in the Church today for the common good. God gave me a prophetic word several years ago. He said, “I am doing a new thing. I am sifting, sorting, threshing and pressing. What grape in a winepress can withstand the pressing? Each is pressed with each to produce one new pleasing wine.”

Perhaps that’s a word for you today. The Lord is sifting his Church. He is threshing us like wheat to remove the dross of compromise, complaint and criticism. The Lord is pressing us into a new form – a new meld – to flow together in harmony, humility and grace for his pleasure. God is doing a new thing in your life. It may be uncomfortable but, in the end, you will be supremely blessed. He will meet your needs, as he has promised. He will guide your steps, as he has promised. If you humble yourself, he will raise you to new heights, as he has promised.

Every breath you take is a new breath. You cannot live on old air. God is a God of the new. In Christ you are a new creation, all things have become new. So, take a fresh new breath and pray, “Lord, whatever it takes, do a new thing in me today.”

God-tracking is embracing the new.

SO, DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY

“Sort me, Lord, thresh me, Lord and press me, Lord to fit your plan for my life.”

“Heavenly Father, I know your word endures forever. Thank you for the prophecies in the Bible that I can take to heart today, in a new way. I believe you are doing a new thing in my life; I perceive it. Sort me, Lord, thresh me, Lord and press me, Lord to fit your plan for my life. I acknowledge you in every aspect of my life and future and trust that you will direct my path according to the plans you know you have for me. Amen.”

“Know this, he who called you is faithful and he will give you the boldness to take on the world.”

Proverbs 28:1
The wicked flee when no one pursues, But the righteous are bold as a lion.

Be bold
Be strong
For the Lord you God is with you

Words from an old chorus written by Morris Chapman that we used to sing in church. I remember the vigour this old song gave me…

I am not afraid
I am not dismayed
Because I'm walking in faith and victory
Come on and walk in faith and victory
For the Lord your God is with you

It’s been said, “Could it be that when we are bold enough to step away from our safety nets and into the 'fire' of God’s call, this is when we’re most likely to encounter Him?” The call of God can be a fire. Indeed, just ask Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.

When confronted to choose between the fire of God’s call or rejecting the plans of God they replied, “Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace.” They boldly rebutted the command of Nebuchadnezzar to bow to a golden image and were thrown headlong into a fiery furnace. In their boldness to follow God’s call, they encountered his might to deliver them from the fire. These three chaps walked in faith and victory because the Lord their God was with them.

Are you facing the fire of God’s call? Perhaps opposition to this call has presented itself to you, leaving you feeling desolate and disillusioned. Know this, he who called you is faithful and he will give you the boldness to take on the world. In Christ, no weapon formed against you will succeed, in him, you have authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing shall by any means hurt you.

So, be bold be strong, the Lord your God is with you.

God-tracking is boldly following God’s fiery call.

“Dear God, thank you for the victory of the cross of Christ. He made a spectacle of the forces of darkness when he triumphed over them in it. I stand in that victory, today. I lay claim to the word of God that assures me that I have power over all the opposition of Satan. In the name of Jesus, all opposition to your call on my life will bow. Help me O Lord, to rest under the shadow of your wings and follow your fiery call. Amen.”

“He who is in you (by his righteousness) is greater than any catastrophe this world could ever throw at you. Life may seem impossible and complicated for you at this time, but Jesus will deliver you from all your troubles.”

Psalm 34:17
The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.

If you’re anything like me then, when you read scriptures promising the righteous person good things, you think, “That’s not me. I try to live a good life but I don’t consider myself to be righteous.” But listen to what God’s word says:

If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (Read the scriptures below.)

If you know Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord then you are in Christ. If you know Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord then you are a new creation, the old life of sin has been crucified with Christ and the life you now live you live by faith in what he accomplished at Calvary. Jesus was ascribed your sin on the cross so that you could be ascribed God’s righteousness, by faith. You have been saved (delivered) from sin to be made righteous by God’s grace through faith. You are not righteous by your own works. Therefore, it’s not your righteousness that qualifies you to stand on the promises of God. It’s God’s righteousness in you, through Christ, that qualifies you to stand on the promises of God.

When you cry out to him, he hears you. The moment you, righteous child of God, call out to Abba, he brings you relief. There is no pain, no calamity, no crisis greater than the blessings of your God and Father. He who is in you (by his righteousness) is greater than any catastrophe this world could ever throw at you. Life may seem impossible and complicated for you at this time, but Jesus will deliver you from all your troubles. All of God’s promises are yes and amen in Christ for you, O righteous child of God.
