Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy.

“But I am trying to be born again,” said Christine as we travelled to church on the bus. “I try so hard to live a good life but I keep messing it up. I keep falling.” Christine hadn’t yet grasped the truth that being born again was an act of faith, not effort. “God’s word makes it clear that we are not justified by living a good life we are justified by faith in the good life of Jesus,” explained Mark our group leader. “Jesus was sinless and perfect in every way; he is the fulfilment of the Law of Moses. Yet he took the wages of our sin when he died on the cross, for the wages of sin is death. But then Jesus rose from the dead, and when he did, he conquered sin and death. By faith in his death and resurrection and by confessing him as Lord, we are saved and born again. We are saved by grace (and grace is God’s doing) and we are saved by faith, not any effort to live a good life,” said Mark.

Christine gradually understood the concept of grace and faith and surrendered her heart to Jesus. Sadly, however, she continued to fight the flesh. Christine fell time and time again, degrading her walk of faith. She hadn’t fully understood that our life of goodness is a continual faith walk. We are saved by faith and we are preserved by faith.

Faith is confidence in someone else. We all exercise faith every day when we trust other people to do what they have promised. Likewise, our walk of goodness is a walk of confidence in the goodness that God imputes into us when we are born again. However, the flesh is weak. This is why Jesus said, “In the world, you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

The Lord is able to keep you from stumbling and falling. He wants to lift you up and hold you securely. You can rely on his strength to carry and sustain you. So, don’t be discouraged the next time you fall. Have faith in his grace (grace is God’s doing). He is able to keep you from falling.

“Dear God, thank you for Jesus and the work of the cross. Thank you for the resurrection of Jesus and for saving me from sin. I have faith in Jesus and I believe, by your grace, I am justified by faith. Help me now to live every day by that same faith; to walk by faith and not by sight. Mark 5:34
And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace and be healed of your affliction.”.

Pam had endured motor neurone disease for many years. MND is a dreadful condition that affects the brain and nerves. It causes weakness and inflicts an incapacity that gets worse with time. There's no cure for MND. MND can significantly shorten life expectancy and eventually leads to death. Pam had developed to the point where she was unable to move about unassisted. She was enduring severe muscle cramps and twitches and had lost so much weight that her muscles had atrophied. She lay in bed, contemplating the power of God to heal.

Pam was a believer. She had surrendered her life to Jesus as a child and had grown up under the teaching of God’s word. She knew that God’s word was God’s will and that God’s word promised healing. As she lay alone in her bed that morning Pam spoke out the words that the Holy Spirit dropped into her heart, “By whose stripes you were healed.” Her faith began to rise.

“Lord, if you can heal me help me to sit up.” Pam strained but gradually she sat upright. “Dear God, I know your word promises healing. Help me throw my legs over the edge of my bed.” She did. “Okay, Lord, help me get up and walk to the door.” Pam precariously rose and made her way to the bedroom door. “Thank you, Jesus!” she uttered. “Now help me walk down the garden to Dave’s office.”

Pam’s husband, Dave, was a doctor. He practiced from home and had a small office at the bottom of their garden. Hearing a knock on the door, he rose and opened it. Dave almost fell backward as he saw his once incapacitated wife standing, unaided, at his office door. Totally healed!

Jesus said to the woman who touched his cloak in a crowded marketplace, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Be healed of your affliction.” This dear lady, like Pam, had no one pray for her. Jesus hadn’t even laid a hand on her. Yet, she believed that it was his will to heal and that he had the power to heal her illness. And he did.

Faith is confidence in things hoped for and faith comes by the word of God. Both Pam and the lady with the issue of blood had heard God’s Word. They heard that he promised healing. Both Pam and the lady with the issue of blood had a simple faith in God’s word that he was willing to heal them. And he did.

God’s word is God’s will. God’s word promises healing. Faith is confidence in God’s word.

God-tracking is believing God will heal.

Together, We Will Get Through This

Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Stephen remembered how he had witnessed some of the great miracles that Jesus had performed. He was still young but he had a passion to share the gospel that Jesus had commissioned his disciples to share. Stephen was one of the 120 who were in the upper room in Jerusalem on Pentecost when God poured out his Holy Spirit. What an experience! God’s glory filled the room. What appeared to be flames of fire rested on each man’s head while a great rushing sound was heard in the large room. Since then, Stephen, full of faith and power, had done great wonders and signs among the people. Now, as he stood before the Sanhedrin, he remembered what Jesus had said shortly before he ascended back to paradise, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

“This man does not cease to speak blasphemous words against this holy place and the law.” Stephen faced the Sanhedrin for speaking boldly in the name of Jesus. Hurling false trumped-up charges against Stephen, they gazed at his face in amazement. Stephen’s face shone with a light as Moses’ face had shone with when he descended from Sinai. They dragged him outside and began stoning him. Gazing upward, Stephen said, “Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!”

Right to the point of death, Stephen knew that Jesus would never leave him. Jesus had promised to be with him and he was. This is the same Jesus who says to you today, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” His presence, by the fellowship of Holy Spirit, is with you every second of every day. You can never come into his presence because you can never leave his presence. When you come to worship or pray, you simply come into the presence of mind of his presence. If you find yourself laboured or burdened today, come to Jesus and rest in his companionship. He is with you always.

God-tracking is resting in his faithful presence.

Not What I Will

…looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith

I sensed that God wanted me to enter the ministry when I left school but I ignored it. Instead, I attempted to achieve a bachelor of science degree at university. Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful in my attempt. However, it was during this year that I heard the distinct call of God into Christian ministry. All other ambitions faded into oblivion. My sole aspiration was to become a full-time minister. Finally, ten years after leaving school, God opened the door for me to enter the ministry.

Sadly, however, I became consumed by my ambition to do the work of the Lord, taking my eyes off the Lord of the work. Nothing else was important to me. I had my opinions and that’s all that mattered. My marriage began to flounder. My eyes were fixed on the job. I’d lost the purpose of my calling: to first seek the kingdom and righteousness of God.

Jesus had a calling on his life. He had the most supreme calling any man could have. Jesus was called to be Saviour of the world. His sole ambition was to do the will of his Father. At about the age of 33, after completing his work as a teacher and healer, Jesus, the Son of God, was confronted with a choice: to do or reject the will of his Father. In Gethsemane, he cried out, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Take this cup from me.” I believe this was one of the final temptations that Jesus faced. But then he adds, “Nevertheless, not what I will, but what you will.”

Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, laid aside all natural ambition to become the great political reformer that his disciples thought he’d become. Jesus rejected the temptation to express his own opinion or follow any other ambition save that of fulfilling the purposes of God. He practiced what he preached. He sought first the kingdom of God.

Jesus is called the author and finisher of our faith. He is our example of a godly lifestyle. We are all called to be Christlike. Therefore, let’s be encouraged to lay aside all selfish ambition and egotistical desires in favour of seeking first the purposes of God, knowing that, as we do, all that we will ever need for life and living will be added to us as well.

God-tracking is submitting solely to his Kingdom purposes.

Good from Evil

“God’s ways are higher than our ways. What others intended for your harm God will turn to good.”

Zephaniah 3:20 (NIV)
“At that time, I will gather you; at that time, I will bring you home. I will give you honour and praise among all the peoples of the earth when I restore your fortunes before your very eyes,” says the Lord. 

We all know well the story of Joseph in Genesis. Joseph, son of Jacob, was his father’s favourite son. God had given him prophetic dreams that his family would one day bow before him. His brothers were antagonistic toward Joseph because of jealousy and conspired to sell him into slavery in Egypt.

In Egypt, after a series of turbulent circumstances, Joseph was able to interpret a dream that Pharaoh had, saying that drought and famine were about to impact the land. Based on this information, the king promoted Joseph to a position second only to him. By his position and the wise insight God gave him, Joseph’s actions and planning saved many lives.

When Joseph’s brothers, who lived in Canaan, appealed to Egypt for food, they unwittingly appeared before Joseph. Joseph tests their motives resulting in his brothers bowing to his superiority (fulfilment of his original dreams). Finally, Joseph reveals himself to his brothers and declares, “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save the lives of many people.”

God's purpose always prevails. He knows your beginning from your end and everything in between. Your circumstances can change, as Jospeh’s did, yet if you continue to acknowledge God in all your ways, he will nevertheless direct their outcome. What Joseph’s brothers intended for evil against him God used to promote him. Evil can be changed to good at submission to the hand of God. Be encouraged to hold on – never give up – and trust God to deliver you from those adverse circumstances you’re facing. God’s ways are higher than our ways. What others intended for your harm God will turn to good. So, seek him and call upon him. In his time, he will exalt you and restore your fortunes before your very eyes.

God-tracking is trusting God to turn evil into good.
