Dear God-tracker

God-tracking is Finding Real Purpose in Christ

“Help me to make this day please you, Lord,” prayed the inmate who had recently given his life over to Jesus. Day by day, in the high security prison that had become his home for the past 5 years, Ben was beginning to see the mighty hand of God at work in ways he would never have imagined. He used to be an aggressive man and knew well the power and authority of violence. Even among fellow inmates, Ben had a reputation for being forceful. But since that wonderful night when the prison Chaplin had prayed with him and he had surrendered his life to Christ, things were different.

Ben had received a prison sentence for manslaughter. Prone to fights he was often arrested for assault but this time he had gone too far and had killed a man with his bare hands, in a fit of rage. After being sentenced to life in prison, Ben had gained a reputation for being a bully and a brawler. His first 5 years had been like hell but he’d held his own in the community of prison. However, Ben was a loner and would often find himself facing 4 or 5 men alone in a darkened cell.

One night Ben was overpowered and severely beaten. He had ended up in the infirmary and it was here that the prison Chaplin - himself a burly man - had visited him and told him about someone else who was arrested and sentenced to death. This man was a strong but gentle character who did no one any harm. In fact he had only ever been good to people. He had healed the sick, fed crowds of hungry folk, blessed children and taught the ways of God. Yet, trumped-up charges were brought against him and he was sentenced to execution. The Chaplin had then explained to Ben that this person was Jesus Christ and that he had been crucified for the sins of all mankind, even those of a dirty brawler like Ben. But because Jesus had been raised from the dead the entire world – including Ben – could know God’s forgiveness and his grace. By now tough old Ben was no longer a brawler but a bawler!

From that moment on the change in Ben was evident to all. Even the most feared prison gangs had come to respect him. He would freely pray for fellow inmates and when prayers began to be answered men would queue up at his cell for prayer. Ben had become a God Tracker. He had come to know the simple yet profound truth that Jesus is the only way to real freedom. God was using him mightily. Ben had found his real reason for being alive and, though he would wake every morning not knowing what may face him, he would live each day to please his Lord. How about you, dear God Tracker?

Help Me to Make This Day Please You

Pray:
“Dear God I admit my need of you. I confess my sin and admit to my wrongdoings. I realise that no one is right before you by their own efforts. Only Jesus could take my sin on the cross and I believe now he did. Thank you Father for sending Jesus and for raising him from the dead so that I may know your forgiveness today.  I choose to turn my back on my old life and live for you from now on. Come into my life as I give my life to you. Lord, I want to pray every day, ‘help me to make this day please you’ so that I may live out my real purpose in life. Amen."
