Dear God-tracker

God-tracking is not a religious rite; it’s a stress-free walk of faith

Studies have shown that the hippocampus of one’s brain, which is responsible for short-term memory, shrinks when one is under stress. In other words, the more stressed you become the more forgetful you become. Further studies have shown that religious people tend to have short-term memory lapses indicating that their hippocampi have become reduced. The researchers put this down to the stresses involved in following the precepts of religious compliance. They say that religious people open themselves to added stresses as a result of the effort of trying to follow religious rites and regulations.

Sadly, many folk who call themselves practicing Christians think of themselves as religious people. As Christians we do follow the precepts of our scriptures, however, true Christianity is not a religion per se, but a relationship. The essence of salvation for a Christian is not religious works but a submissive faith in God’s grace; and grace is God’s doing. The Lord God we worship, produced the means himself to redeem us from sin after the fall of mankind. He did this by sending Jesus, his righteous son, to die for sin in our place (because the wages of sin is death) and then, by his resurrection, to create a way for us to be forgiven of all sin. Jesus became sin so that, in him, I might become God’s righteousness. The Law of the Spirit of life in Christ has set us free from the requirements of dead religious precepts. And all this is God’s grace – God’s doing! Faith is simply admitting that we don’t have what it takes to work for our salvation by any religious observance, or otherwise, and simply putting our confidence in the work of Jesus through the cross. It’s that easy!

Religion can be stressful but true Christianity is not stressful. Religious duties and procedures can be stressful but simple faith in God’s grace is anything but stressful. Trying to deal with sin and infirmity by our own effort can be really stressful but walking in repentance and by God’s grace is not stressful. In fact, faith is the easiest thing in the world, because faith is admitting that I can’t while God can! This is why Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest,” and “my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Religion is bearing up under the yoke of rituals, regulations and good works while true faith is simply tracking your life track, arm in arm with Jesus.

God-tracking is not a religious rite; it’s a stress-free walk of faith

Verse of the Week

Ephesians 2:8-9
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast.

Don’t Give Up, Look Up!
Look up and Fix Your Eyes on Jesus!

I will walk by faith and not by human effort

“Dear God, I admit that I have sinned and come short of your righteous requirements. In the name of Jesus Christ I repent of my sin and I repent of my human efforts at trying to earn my salvation by good works. I realise now that I am saved only by the works of Jesus on the cross and his resurrection from the dead. I accept this fact by faith and confess Christ as Lord of my life. I come to Jesus today to take up his yoke and let go of my own. I fully accept Jesus Christ as Lord and saviour and choose to give my life over to him. From here on, I will walk by faith and not by human effort. Thank you you’re your grace and new life, O Lord. Amen.”
