GOD-TRACKING IS BEING READY TO DEMONSTRATE THE POWER AND HOLINESS OF GOD TO YOUR GENERATION

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS BEING READY TO DEMONSTRATE THE POWER AND HOLINESS OF GOD TO YOUR GENERATION

Jeremiah 1:12
Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well,
for I am watching over my word to perform it.”

I believe that the Lord interacts with us here on earth through his Spirit and his Word, as found in the Holy Bible. The Spirit activates the Word our lives. The Word, on the other hand, always confirms the actions of the Holy Spirit. They are synonymous: Jesus is the Word and Jesus is the Holy Spirit (God is Trinity: Father Son and Holy Spirit). Therefore, the Holy Spirit is the Word of God. When God speaks through the written Word his Spirit watches over that word to perform it. And God’s Word will always sanction the supernatural actions of the Holy Spirit. God’s Word will never return to him without producing the results he intends it to produce in our lives. So, as I seek the subjective move of the Spirit so I need to seek the objective confirmation of Word of God. Therefore, every subjective word of prophecy or move of the Holy Spirit needs to be checked by Scripture. With this in mind I share the following thought.

These are perilous times. I believe that God will raise every Bible believing Spirit filled true Christ Follower up to be a beacon of hope upon an island of grace in this confused world in which we live. We will begin to hear more reports of more and more miraculous outworking of God, in these last days, in contrast to the deprived politically correct postmodern ethos that we find ourselves subject to in our societies. I believe that the Lord has a word for each subscriber and reader of this e-devotional. But please test these thoughts of the Spirit by the truths of the Word.

As you draw to the end of 2015 I believe the Lord wants to fill you more with more power by his Holy Spirit to minister for him in these days. Get ready to stand true according to the principles, purposes and precedent of God’s Word. A time is coming – perhaps is even upon us – when the contrast between the scruples of man’s culture will be intensely contrasted by the integrity of God’s Word & Spirit. God is ready to demonstrate his sovereignty by his power. Get ready for a personal and corporate move of God. I sense that the Holy Spirit will begin to reveal God’s distinctive holiness and his supremacy over the ways of man through miracles and supernatural signs. So keep your eyes on Jesus and your heart true to his Word as you interact with those around you. Make the most of every opportunity, in these evil days, with grace and wisdom. Lay hands on the sick, preach the Kingdom Gospel and stand true in faith that he who promised is faithful; he will do it! Very soon, I believe, a time is coming when people in the world will cry out for the relief of the painful boils inflicting their souls, because of moral compromise. Only the true Believer will hold the answer to their relief: Jesus and him crucified and risen!

And if you do not yet acknowledge the Lordship of Christ then today is the day to surrender your life to Jesus.

God-tracking is being ready to demonstrate the power and holiness of God to your generation

Keep your eyes on Jesus, always.

GOD-TRACKING IS LIVING WITH AN ATTITUDE OF UNQUALIFIED FORGIVENESS

Dear God-tracker

Matthew 6:12
…and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.

GOD-TRACKING IS LIVING WITH AN ATTITUDE OF UNQUALIFIED FORGIVENESS

Jan felt the pain rising up in her chest. Rod was sitting across the table from her with his head in his hands and his fingers moist with tears. He had just confessed to being unfaithful to his wife. “I… I am very, very sorry. I was wrong. I sinned. Please forgive me,” said Rod.

Rod and Jan had been married for 12 years. Neither of them had so much as toyed with the idea of an extramarital relationship. Sadly, an old friend had come back into their lives; a woman Rod had known before his marriage. Rod had dropped his guard and the devil took advantage of his weakness. Now he sat before his wife in unconditional apology and repentance. Jan knew well it would take a long time to heal this dilemma but she had one of two choices: to become bitter and retaliate or to unconditionally forgive.

Jesus hung on a savage cross. Blood from the spikes in his wrists dripped from his skin to the dirt below. His eyes were swollen shut and his jaw throbbed with pain from the beatings. Torn and wounded, the Son of God groaned. His lips moved. Those closest to him heard his stilted tones, “Father, forgive them.” How could this man forgive those that had just condemned and crucified him unjustly? Yet, even before repentance was on his accusers’ lips, Christ forgave.

Forgiveness is unqualified. God chose to forgive you of your sins even before you were born. The crucifixion of Christ almost 2000 years ago made forgiveness available to you today. By his grace, when you finally realised your folly and confessed your sin, in repentance, his forgiving became your forgiveness. Forgiveness predates apology. Forgiveness is a mind-set we choose to adopt, because God has forgiven us. Jesus taught us to pray, “Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.”
Forgiveness heals the offended. Whatever offence you have endured, you have only two options before you: become bitter and retaliate or to forgive unconditionally.

God-tracking is living with an attitude of unqualified forgiveness

Keep your eyes on Jesus

So I confess unforgiveness as a sin and repent of it. I now choose to confess forgiveness of this person who has offended, even if they choose not to apologise. Help me to offer un-qualified forgiveness; to forgive without saying, ‘I forgive you but…’ And now I pray that this forgiveness on my lips will sink down into my heart. Help me to take your example of forgiveness to forgive. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.”

GOD-TRACKING IS ACKNOWLEDGING GOD’S FOREKNOWLEDGE OF YOU

Dear God-tracker

2 Corinthians 5:7
…for we walk by faith, not by sight.

GOD-TRACKING IS ACKNOWLEDGING GOD’S FOREKNOWLEDGE OF YOU

“What will be, will be,” said Jess lifting her cappuccino to her lips. Hannah waited for her to take a sip before continuing. “I’m sure Pete and I will be happy after we’re married, but who knows what the future holds? We’ll take one day at a time and let fate do the rest.” In her heart Hannah knew the answer to Jess’ dilemma in facing the unknown lay in acknowledging God but sadly, her friend had closed her heart to the hope of walking by faith in God’s plans for her future.

The Scripture tells us that those whom God foreknew, he predestined to be conformed to his purposes and that all things will work out for the good of those who are called according to his purposes. The sad reality of human life is, of all the animal kingdom, we are the most concerned about tomorrow. But Jesus said, “Do not worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow has enough worries of its own.” The Scripture also calls us to walk by faith. Herein is the key: faith.

It’s my belief God is above and beyond our concept of time. That is, he encompasses time. We read that God was and God is and God is to come. God is past, present and future all at the same time! If God is eternal then he is infinite and infinity is timeless. Predestination is wrapped up in this thought: God has knowledge of you and foreknowledge of your eternity. Therefore, God is already in your tomorrow meeting your needs and planning your life’s track. He has called you by name; you are his! He has a path predestined for you; a path for your eternal salvation as well as your temporal life on earth. If you acknowledge him in all your ways, he will direct you according to this path he has planned for you. That’s what God-tracking is all about. So, in confidence I say, acknowledge God and all thigs will work out for your good and for his glory.

Don’t live by fate; live by faith!

God-tracking is acknowledging God’s foreknowledge of you

I believe that fate has nothing to do with the reality of my life. My life, as I acknowledge you, is determined by your purposes for me on earth and beyond to eternity. Therefore, O Lord, I choose to continue to acknowledge you in all my ways and trust you to direct my paths according to your foreknowledge of my tomorrow. Help me to walk by faith and not by what I can see in the natural. Even I though still I need to make life choices and plan my future, help me rest in your destiny for my life and plan according to your will. I’m yours, Jesus! Amen.”

GOD-TRACKING IS KEEPING YOUR HEART PURE TOWARDS THE PURPOSES OF GOD

Dear God-tracker

Psalm 17:8
Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings

GOD-TRACKING IS KEEPING YOUR HEART PURE TOWARDS THE PURPOSES OF GOD

Reading the story of David in 1 and 2 Samuel recently I was struck by how normal this man really was. Yes, David was a great king in the early history of Israel; yes he was a mighty worrier and yes he was a great poet. However, David was actually less than the perfect man we imagine him to be. David was simply a man on track with God’s plans for his life – a God-tracker like you and me. But what made King David so unique?

David was the youngest son of his father, Jesse and probably had a very lonely childhood. As a shepherd boy he spent most of his early years out in the hills around Bethlehem caring for his father’s sheep. It was probably here that David developed his deep relationship with God. One day Samuel the prophet was told by God to find the son of Jesse, whom he had chosen, and anoint him to be the next King of Israel. Finding David the shepherd boy Samuel makes him king, even though Saul still reigned over Israel. After this, David became a mighty worrier in the armies of Israel. King Saul was not happy with the popularity of this young up-start and became very jealous of David. So David goes into exile to escape Saul’s intentions to kill him. Here we see how, even though he still honoured God, David became a bandit, raiding and plundering villages. Eventually Saul dies and David takes the throne of Israel becoming the great God fearing King he was.

“So what’s this got to do with me?” you ask.  Well, you see, although David’s life was dramatic and exciting, he endured many hardships, backslid and, at times, becomes quite rebellious. Even after this hero becomes a great leader we see that he doesn’t always get things right. On one occasion David even commits adultery! Yes, this great Bible hero was indeed, less than perfect. We pick up some of David’s dilemmas in life thorough his writings. The Davidic Psalms are among some of the most frank writings in scripture (take a look at Psalm 22 for example). However, as we read these Psalms we begin to realise, although he was not perfect, David always kept his heart humble before God. He was always open and pliable towards God’s Word. And when he committed wrong, he was very quick to admit it and repent. David always honoured God and sought first his kingdom. Perhaps this is why he was called, “a man after God’s own heart.” I’m not sure about you but I can certainly relate to a man like King David. What an example to us all of maintaining a pure and contrite heart in tracking God’s plans and purposes for our lives.

God-tracking is keeping your heart pure towards the purposes of God

Blessings

GOD-TRACKING IS BEING RESPECTFULLY ASSERTIVE WITH GRACIOUS HUMILITY

trACker 561 The e-Devotional helping to keep you on-track
Published through www.godtracker.co.uk

20 November 2015

Dear God-tracker

1 John 2:1-2My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

God-tracking is being respectfully assertive with gracious humility

A friend once asked me why it seems Apostle Paul is being manipulative in his letter to Philemon. He showed how the apostle seemed to use his position to strongly influence Philemon to take Onesimus back. He said to me, “Is it okay to use manipulation to get a Godly outcome in a situation?” My answer, no.

We need to understand the historical and cultural context of this short epistle. Oneismus was a runaway slave. He belonged to Philemon. Culturally and historically speaking, he was Philemon’s property. The punishment for a runaway slave in Roman times was death. On his travels, Paul meets Onesimus, who becomes a Christian. Paul urges Oneimus to return to his master, but this would mean certain punishment. So Paul writes a letter to Philemon asking him to accept Onesimus back, not as a slave but as a brother. He even offers to reimburse Philemon for his losses. In his letter Paul uses strong language to forthrightly encourage Philemon to accept Oneimus back, but he does this in love. Paul is indeed, Philemon’s senior in that he is his apostolic leader. As such he encourages the slave master to unconditionally love the runaway slave and set him free. The price for his redemption would be paid by the apostle.

In his correspondence with Philemon, Paul is not being manipulative, he is being respectfully assertive. You may be facing a similar situation today, either from the standpoint of Paul or that of Philemon. It could be you are trying to cause someone else to see the truth of a situation from the position of authority. If so then follow Paul’s example of being graciously forthright and willing to sacrificial, to communicate your point. On the other hand, you may feel you are being manipulated into a decision by someone in authority over you. If so then follow Philemon’s example of graciously and respectfully weigh up their opinion, and then humbly choosing to do what you see to be right. And remember to always acknowledge the Lord in prayer, including in your relationships.

God-tracking is being respectfully assertive with gracious humility

Pray“Dear Lord, I’m in a similar position today. Forgive me for being manipulative in my relationships with others and help me to humbly accept Godly advice, with grace. Thank you for the story of Philemon and Onesimus. I do see, too, that there is a deeper meaning in this epistle: that of your grace shown to me through Jesus Christ. I’m like Onesimus and you are like Philemon. Paul is like Jesus. I have run away from your righteousness and sinned. Therefore, you, O God, have every reason to condemn me to death for my sin. But Jesus has become my intermediary – he is the one who is interceding with you to graciously accept me back. And he has paid the price for my freedom in his blood. Thank you, O Lord, for your assertive grace and love to me. Amen.”

GOD-TRACKING IS RELISHING IN FORGIVENESS

trACker 560
The e-Devotional helping to keep you on-track
Published through www.godtracker.co.uk

13 November 2015

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS RELISHING IN FORGIVENESS

Matthew 6:14-15
For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

A story is told of two brothers who went to their rabbi to settle a longstanding dispute. The rabbi got the brothers to reconcile their differences and shake hands. As they were making their way to the door, he asked each one to make a wish for the other in honor of the Jewish New Year. The elder brother turned to the younger and said, "I wish you what you wish me." The younger man threw up his hands and said, "See, Rabbi, he's starting up again!"

Throughout the New Testament we see how Jesus forgave people. For example the woman caught in adultery, the woman with the alabaster jar and the criminal who was crucified with him. As we read we notice there is no sin too great to be forgiven. In fact, I believe all sin is equal in the eyes of God, because all sin is evil and God is infinitely good. The word sin means to miss the mark. It’s a bit like playing a game of darts. If you aimed at the bull’s eye but missed by one millimeter, you’ve missed the mark completely. Like the old English idiom, which says, “A miss is as good as a mile.” All sin is sin and all have sinned and missed God’s mark of perfect goodness, the result of which is eternal death. But there’s hope: “The free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” God has made a way for your forgiveness of all your sins though Jesus! No sin is too great for God to forgive. Come to him today in repentance and confession and trust in his eternal forgiveness.

However, there is one thing that can inhibit God’s forgiveness and that is your unforgiveness. Unforgiveness is a great stumbling block in the heart of man. Unforgiveness insults God’s forgiveness. It’s like two people stranded in the desert dying of thirst. Then a man appears with a large pitcher of water and the first thirsty man drinks all of it without offering any to his dying friend. Unforgiveness will destroy the one holding on to it.

So, if you’re reading this today as one who is guilty of sin then come quickly to the feet of Jesus in repentance and receive his forgiveness; nothing is to too great to be forgiven. If you’re reading this as a person wishing harm on another because of unforgiveness then come quickly to the feet of Jesus and confess forgiveness for your brother. Do this you will know the sheer liberty of being forgiven and forgiving.

God-tracking is relishing in forgiveness

Shalom

Dudley

I receive your forgiveness now with deep, deep gratitude. Help me never do these things again. But I know it doesn’t stop there. So I confess that I harbour unforgiveness against others, and I’m really sorry. I choose now to confess that I forgive these people with all my heart, in Jesus’ name. GOD-TRACKING IS LIVING EVERY MOMENT CONFIDENT IN HIS SOVEREIGN TIMING

trACker 559
The e-Devotional helping to keep you on-track
Published through www.godtracker.co.uk

06 November 2015

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS LIVING EVERY MOMENT CONFIDENT IN HIS SOVEREIGN TIMING

“The fall of Jericho could be described by a natural disaster,” said the commentator in a TV documentary I was watching about Joshua’s conquest of the city. “The Jordan Rift Valley runs closer to Jericho than the San Andreas Fault does to San Francisco,” he went on to say. “In all likelihood, the walls of Jericho collapsed because of an earthquake.”

Very often science tries to argue away the supernatural acts of God with natural conclusions. However, as feasible as the scientific conclusion seemed to be in this instance, as I watched, I became even increasingly impressed by the biblical account. If Jericho was breached by a natural earthquake then it’s even more amazing how Joshua was compelled by supernatural timing to blast the ram’s horn at the exact moment that the earth would shake. We need to remember that God is sovereign, his timing is perfect and his ends are supreme!

Through Isaiah the Holy Spirit said, “The former things I declared of old. As they went out from my mouth, and I announced them, suddenly I did them and they came to pass.” And he said, “I am he; I am the first, and I am the last. My hand laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand spread out the heavens; when I call to them, they stand forth together." The creator God we serve is all-knowing, all-powerful and ever-present. Here he is called the first and the last. If this is true then God exists in the past, the present and the future, all at the same time! Therefore, God is superior to time. In other words, God holds time in his hands. The timing of every event in the universe is designed and orchestrated by God Almighty.

God knows your beginning from your end and everything in-between! He was there when you took that first breath and he will be there when you breathe your last. Your God knows every moment and every movement of your life. Is it any wonder the scriptures tell us to acknowledge him in all our ways? If it is true that God prompted a mighty earthquake at precisely the moment the Israelites blew their trumpets in his praise after walking around Jericho 7 times in 7 days then I know that this same God can move your world according to his perfectly timed plans for your life. Rest in his sovereignty over your today and his perfect will for your tomorrow. Try not to fathom God with intellect. Rather fathom him with faith. Commit your moment by moment to him and it will amaze you how all things – both good and bad –  will work out for your good, always!

God-tracking is living every moment confident of his sovereign timing

Every blessing

Therefore, I believe that all things – good or bad – in my life will work out according to your will for my good. So I put my trust in your timing for every event in my life. I commit my relationships, my work and my recreation to you. I commit my present and my future to you, and thank you for your hand on my past. Help me to rest assured that you will orchestrate every moment of my life according to the plans you know you have for me. Amen.”

GOD-TRACKING IS WAKING EVERY MORNING TO CALL HIM DAD

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS WAKING EVERY MORNING TO CALL HIM DAD

“I thought we would stay there longer or be adopted by this family,” said Clair as she shared stories of her childhood one evening around the dinner table. “But we were soon moved on to a new foster home. All my foster carers were wonderful people, but all my brothers and I wanted was a stable, loving home with a mom and dad who would never abandon us like our own parents had.” Clair was the eldest of three siblings. Their biological parents were abusive and negligent resulting in social services had removed them from their birth home, placing them into foster care. Clair was accustomed to looking out for her younger brothers as they moved from home to home but all she ever longed for was for was to be adopted by two caring adults she could call mom and dad. “Finally, when that day came, I remember waking up every morning thinking, mom and dad will always be here every time a wake up. They will never leave me or forsake me.”

Child fostering is a noble and caring occupation but nothing beats the real thing. There is a great need in our society to fully adopt abandoned and abused children. To me, people who choose to adopt other people’s children to love and care for them as their own are heroes. These often abandoned children are welcomed, cared for and shown grace in their time of need.

Christian, when you were once abandoned and lost in this world, Father God chose you in him that you should be holy and blameless before him. In love God predestined you for adoption as his son or daughter through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will. Father God did not need you. Father God did not inherit you – he chose to adopt you. Through the atoning work of Jesus Christ (God’s only begotten Son) Father God made the way for you to come to him just as you are – warts and all – and, because you have acknowledged Jesus as Lord, he has adopted you regardless. Yes, as your Abba Father he will discipline and guide you, but his discipline is always in love like a true father. Though you may rant and rave at times he will never abandon or forsake you. He is your carer, your provider, your comforter and your counselor. He is anything a good father would be and all his children are co-heirs to his Kingdom. All this because he has adopted you by choice, through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will.

God-tracking is waking every morning to call him Dad

God bless

GOD-TRACKING IS A RELATIONSHIP NOT A RELIGION

23 October 2015

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS A RELATIONSHIP NOT A RELIGION

It’s been said that true Christianity is a relationship and not a religion. I think it is bit like marriage. I think I can safely say that I know my wife sufficiently well enough to have a reasonable conversation with her. Because of my relationship with her (which is based upon openness and spontaneity) I don’t need to follow any set of rules or traditions in order to communicate with her or enjoy her company. Karen knows my deepest thoughts and I know hers, because we do not recite routine dialogue by rote. We are intimate and natural with each other. I know that at the end of a long hard day, for instance, I can pour out my heart to my wife and draw strength from her counsel. And though I do my best to make her happy I know that she is little impressed by any effort of mine to win her favour by false good works.

Religion is a striving for God's fellowship through rote rapacious recital, while true faith is worshiping God in Spirit and in truth. Religion is a striving for God's favour through one’s good works, while true faith is coming to God through Christ's good work. As a true follower of Christ I believe that do not have a religion; I have a relationship with God. This relationship begins with repentance and is based not on good works but on faith. As in my marriage I try to please my wife in intimacy so too in my walk with God I try to please him in faith. Faith pleases God. And faith is contrary to good works or rote prayer. Faith is spontaneous, intimate and rewarding.

What a privilege we enjoy as true Believers to come directly to Abba Father through faith in Jesus. What an honour to be able to talk to the Almighty as a man would talk to a friend. What a pleasure it is to spontaneously worship the God of heaven in the beauty of his holiness. Dear God-tracker, let us never, never take this privilege for granted! So, come to Jesus today if you’re feeling heavy burdened with religion and humbly yoke up with him in true intimate relationship.

God-tracking is a relationship not a religion

GOD-TRACKING IS LIVING IN GOD’S POSITIVE WORLD OF LOVE, POWER AND SOUND THINKING

trACker 556
The e-Devotional helping to keep you on-track
Published through www.godtracker.co.uk

02 October 2015

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS LIVING IN GOD’S POSITIVE WORLD OF LOVE, POWER AND SOUND THINKING

Discussing some of the latest scientific discoveries in cognitive neuroscience, Dr. Caroline Leaf says, 1 “The preponderance of evidence is pointing to the fact that we are wired for love (positivity) and we have to learn fear (negativity).” She goes on to point out that love represents everything that is good while fear represents everything that is evil or sinful. In other words, as human beings, we are all created with an intrinsic instinct for positive love. Fear was never wired into our beings. Fear and negativity result from forces external to our created nature.

I find this idea very interesting. Firstly, we read in the Bible that all God made was good, including man, and man was created in God’s image. In 1 John we read, “God is love.” Therefore, we’re created in the image of love. By the Holy Spirit, John goes on to say, “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.”

Secondly, sin crept into the human race when man disobeyed God. When this happened, mankind fell from God’s image of love and was exposed to fear. Satan (the serpent) lured man away from all that was positive and enduring into an environment that is negative and temporal. We see evidence of this in that God shut up the Garden of Eden to Adam. Yet, even in the curse God pronounces upon the serpent we see a glimmer of hope.

Thirdly, the good news: God, true to his word, did not abandon man to an eternity of fear but provided a way for any who would call on his name to be saved. By sending Jesus (the image of the invisible God who is love) God reconciled us back to his loving image. Jesus, who was sinless, became sin for us on the cross so that, in him, we could become the righteousness of God. As we read in Romans, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Now, I hear you say, “So what’s this got to do with God-tracking?”

Just this: all those negative emotions and destructive forces in your world, which you are suffering from today, are a direct result of the old fearful fallen nature into which you were born. But you can be freed from their influence. I am always amazed at how science catches up with the Bible. Science tells us today that fear is learned, resulting in all that is negative, but love is intrinsic and results in all that is positive. Well, the Bible says it more plainly: Perfect love casts out fear and God has not given us a spirit of fear but of love, power and a sound mind. Are you fighting with fear? Are you battling with depression, anxiety or low self-worth? Well I say to you, call on the name of Jesus and acknowledge him as Lord and Saviour, today. Do this and you will find yourself on the road to positive freedom. If you have already acknowledged Christ then stand on the truth of God’s word and confess: “I do not have a negative spirit of fear (sin, depression, anxiety, disease, poverty, depravity, low esteem…) but I do have a spirit of love, power and positive thinking. Confess: “I am a new creation in Christ. I am God’s righteousness in Christ and God will meet all my needs in Christ.” And then believe it! Only God’s love by his Word and his Spirit can truly change your negative fears into positive love.

God-tracking is living in God’s positive world of love, power & sound thinking

GOD-TRACKING IS FACING EVERY DISASTER IN THE KNOWLEDGE THAT HE IS ALWAYS IN CONTROL

trACker 555 The e-Devotional helping to keep you on-track
Published through www.godtracker.co.uk

25 September 2015

Dear God-tracker

God-tracking is facing every disaster in the knowledge that he is always in control

It was around 11pm when Karen and I made our way upstairs to bed. “I have such an uneasy feeling about Kerryn,” said my wife as we settled down. My daughter had embarked on a round the world trip and was in New Zealand at that moment. “Really?” I said. “Let’s pray.” We prayed for protection and blessing upon Kerryn and her travelling companion at that moment, knowing it was already mid-morning in New Zealand.
Early the next day our phone rang. “Hello, Mr. Anderson,” said a Kiwi voice. “Yes.” I replied with trepidation. “We want you to know, Kerryn is alright.” Instantly I knew something severe must have happened. The voice on the phone went on to explain how Kerryn was involved in serious a motor accident about 9 hours previously but that she had escaped with only bruises and some cuts. She and her friend, who was driving at the time, had entered a dual carriageway and were struck by a van at 100km per hour. The conditions were intensely serious. The driver had taken the impact, suffering a fractured her neck. However, it was clear that God was already in control. In the vehicle immediately behind the one that had collided with them were several casualty medical personnel on their way to work. They very quickly took control of the situation. Kerryn and her friend were rushed to hospital and were very well cared for.

The reason I share this story with you is to point out that bad things do happen; even to Christian believers who walk by faith. You and I are not free from the troubles of the world just because we born again. In fact Jesus once said, “In the world you will have trouble.” But then added, “But take heart; I have overcome the world.” Living as Believers on this planet does not exempt us from disaster or suffering. However, as Believers, we are reinforced by the fact of Christ’s continual companionship. In the Psalms we read that God instructs his angels to protect us in times of disaster. By the Holy Spirit (who is God) the Lord will never leave us nor forsake us. And it was the same Holy Spirit who was the One who prompted Karen and me to pray for our daughter at probably the exact moment of the collision!
As you seek and track God’s plans for your life, be encouraged to never take your eyes off Jesus. Continue to acknowledge God in all your ways and trust him to direct your paths without, leaning on your own understanding; especially through those disasters in life. I do not believe that God instigates calamity but when calamity happens he is faithful to lovingly rescue you and take you on to new heights of victory. Difficulties come your way to test you in order to make you stronger and more secure in your faith. God has a calling on your life and will prove you like gold in a furnace. And how can you be proved unless you are tested? Those whom God calls, he tests. Ask Moses; ask Peter. Better yet, ask Jesus.
My daughter, Kerryn returned home from New Zealand after a few days in hospital with no lasting effects of the collision. And praise the God of healing, her friend returned home a few weeks later and eventually made a full recovery. Both girls have now become much stronger in their faith and believe that, though Satan intends disaster for destruction, God will always work it out for the good.

GOD-TRACKING IS KEEPING OUR EYES ON THE REALITY OF CHRIST

trACker 554
The e-Devotional helping to keep you on-track
Published through www.godtracker.co.uk

18 September 2015

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS KEEPING OUR EYES ON THE REALITY OF CHRIST

I have previously written about shadows and, how, as a child, I used to play games with my shadow. One popular game kids play is shadowboxing. On a bright sunny day I’d stand out in the middle of a field and punch at my shadow until I was exhausted. Shadowboxing is a futile exercise! Every move I’d make, my shadow would mirror. Try as I might, I could never out manoeuvre the dark faceless image of myself projected at 90 degrees from my feet. My dark counterpart was a complete copy of me, bar the reality. It lacked the substance of who I was. Turn out the light and my shadow would vanish.

Thinking about religious festivals and customs, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the Apostle Paul writes, “These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance (or reality) belongs to Christ.” Paul was pointing out that the whole of the Old Testament law together with its regulation, rituals and rites was simply a shadow reflecting the true reality of God’s purposes and principles found in Christ. As a Jew, Paul was brought up and educated under the strict regime of the Law of Moses. In his own words, he called himself a, “Hebrew of Hebrews,” but he goes on to say that whatever credit he gained in his religious observances he counted as nothing compare to the reality of knowing Christ. Jesus himself said, “Do you think I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” If the Law is the shadow then the real thing is Christ, the one casting that shadow by the light of God.

As you and I seek to find and remain on track with God’s plans for our lives we need to be sure that we keep our eyes on the real thing! Every Old Testament Law and every Old Testament rite is wrapped up in Jesus. Throughout the Old Testament we read of many types of Christ. These are shadows that mimic the exact image and movement of the Messiah, just as a shadow imitates the reality of its actual counterpart. For instance, the spotless lamb sacrificed at every Passover festival during temple times was the type (or shadow) of the antitype (or reality) who is the true sinless Lamb of God (Jesus). And Jesus was sacrificed at Calvary to take the punishment for your and my violation of the Law.

So where does this leave me boxing with my shadow? The more I boxed the more tired I became. The same applies to my attempting to keep the Commandments of God. The more I fight with myself in an attempt to subdue the flesh by my own efforts the more exhausted I will become. Like shadowboxing, it’s a futile exercise. I will never be successful in keeping the Law of God by my own strength. The Bible tells me that, although perfect, the Law was weakened by my sinful nature. But Jesus was not sinful! Therefore, he fulfilled the perfect requirements of the whole Law and bore the consequences of breaking the Law by dying on the cross. Therefore, only in Christ, who is the reality, are we no longer condemned by the Law and are free to live out his righteousness in our flesh by the Spirit.

GOD-TRACKING IS BEING SINGLE MINDED IN THE HOPE OF HIS PROMISES, EVEN IN THE WILDEST OF STORMS

11 September 2015

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS BEING SINGLE MINDED IN THE HOPE OF HIS PROMISES, EVEN IN THE WILDEST OF STORMS

Have you ever travelled on a boat on windy seas? I remember one time crossing the English Channel on a ferry in the worst storm I’ve ever experienced. It was a long 6-hour crossing and I remember sitting inside the lounge on the top deck watching the massive waves crash against bow of the boat. The splash of the waves was reaching the window of my third story vantage point with ease. Through the haze of intense nausea I gazed out at the ocean and noticed that the waves were anything but uniform. Unlike the ripples created by a stone tossed into a pond, these monsters were blowing in every direction. The crests of the highest waves were breaking and their foam was being tossed back and forth by strong winds.

As I watched a scripture came to mind. James wrote that the person who asks God to meet a need but doubts in his heart is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. A person like this should not expect to receive anything from the Lord; he is double-minded and unstable in all his ways. Those mighty waves I was watching that day were anything but decisive. They were up one minute down the next and tossed left and right by the wind.

Life’s issues can sometimes beat against the hulls of our lives like the might waves of a furious storm at sea. With very rise and every fall we become increasingly battered until it seems we begin to sink. But remember, you’re never alone on your journey across the seas of life. If you know and acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord then he is right there with you in every storm. He will never abandon nor forsake you. Even when your legs give way and your head spins with confusion or fear, he is there with you. So be strong; pray and do not doubt that God will come through for you! Don’t be like the crests of those double-minded waves, tossed back and forth by the winds of change. Stand strong upon the promises that God has given you and, in faith, shout out, “I can and will do all things through Christ who strengthens me!”

God-tracking is being single minded in the hope of his promises, even in the wildest of storms

Stay blessed

But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

Quote of the Week
A Sample of Dudley’s Fave Quotes.

“God moves in a mysterious way his wonders to perform; he plants His footsteps in the sea and rides upon the storm.” --- William Cowper

Don’t Give Up, Look Up!
Look up and Fix Your Eyes on Jesus!

Help me, by the Holy Spirit, to be strong and courageous and to face every storm in the knowledge that you are always with me

Pray:
“O Lord, I’m feeling very shaky in my Christian walk at the moment. I know that you have given me promises and instructions for the future but I confess that I have my doubts. So Lord, I pray, forgive me for my double-mindedness! I am sorry for doubting your word. Today I rise up and stand firm upon your word. If you promise to meet my needs then I choose to believe it! Help me to not be like waves tossed in every direction by every whim of teaching or doubt. Help me, by the Holy Spirit, to be strong and courageous and to face every storm in the knowledge that you are always with me. Amen.”
