Dear God-tracker
God-tracking is resting in the effect of God’s grace
The time was 8.30pm and
well past Jonny’s bedtime so his mom bundled him in her arms and took him off
to bed. Yawning, he prayed his prayers, kissed his mom and turned over to go to
sleep. Ten minutes later Jonny’s mom heard a thump and a whimper upstairs.
Returning to her son’s bedroom she found Jonny on the floor. “What happened?”
asked mom. “I fell out of bed,” replied the 5-year old. Mom picked him up and
tucked him in back under the covers and then went back downstairs. To her
dismay, Jonny’s mom heard another thump and a whimper a few minutes later.
Again she returned to find her son on the floor. “Why do you keep falling out
of bed, Jonny?” asked mom. “I dunno,” he said. “Perhaps it’s because I sleep
too close to the edge.”
All through life people strive to be good and help their
fellow man. They work hard at being righteous in the hope that someday they may
be lucky enough to go to heaven. However, true hope for eternal life only comes
when we realise that our good works gain us nothing before God. Only through
repentance of sin and faith in Christ, by his death and resurrection, can we experience
God’s grace. By God’s grace we enter God’s rest. But sadly, some of us still
try hard to work at salvation. It’s a bit like someone climbing into bed at the
end of a long hard day but remaining too close to the edge. The result is that
they keep falling out back into a life of self-effort or selfish gain.
Isn’t it funny how we all often sleep with one leg in
the bed and the other hanging out on the floor? We think that by striving to be
a good person or by placing confidence in our good works we can somehow attain
a greater measure of God’s grace. But, and here’s the paradox, grace is
effortless! Grace is God’s doing. There
is nothing you and I could ever do to earn God’s favour. In fact, Grace is
defined as God’s unlimited favour. By grace, God saves us – through Christ –
and by grace God empowers us – by the Holy Spirit – to do his good works in us. Even Apostle Paul realised that he was
useless without God’s grace. He once said that Jesus told him, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made
perfect in weakness.”
If you desire to be more effective for God then don’t sleep
near the edge of your bed. If you truly desire to succeed in your career, in
your relationships and in you ministry then lift both feet off the world and
fall back into the slumber of God’s workmanship. If you want to make an impact
on those around you or wish to influence others for Christ then retire from
selfish effort and rest assured in God’s grace.
God-tracking is
resting in the effect of God’s grace.

Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in
Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk
in them.

“The fact that he chooses to use us is only due to his grace. It has nothing to do with us.” --- Brother Yun
Don’t Give Up, Look Up!
Look up and Fix Your Eyes on Jesus!
Only by resting in your grace can I ever be want
you have planned me to be
Pray:“My Lord I realise now that I have been
sleeping too close to the edge of my life’s bed. I have accepted you as Lord
and desire to serve you but I still find myself doing it under my own steam.
Forgive me for selfish effort. Today I choose to pick both feet up and climb in
deeply into the bed of your grace. Your grace has saved e and your grace has
equipped me to serve you. So Lord, I seek your power by grace upon my career
and my church work; upon my home life and my relationships. Only by resting in
your grace can I ever be want you have planned me to be. Amen.”
