“So don’t be surprised the next time you find yourself treading water. Just remember he is with you, even in the deep end.”

Matthew 28:20(b)
…and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age

I have been a Christian for many years. From an early age, I learned the value of trusting God to direct my life. The Scripture says that God knew me before I was born and that he has fashioned the story of my days before one of them came to be. God knows the plans he has for you and me. God is omniscient, that is, he knows all things and he is omnipotent – all-powerful. If he has a plan for your life, believe me, he has the means and the know-how to execute it.

In 1994 I approached a radio station in my hometown looking for part-time work. I was studying for the ministry at the time and needed a job to bring in some income. I’ve always loved radio so I applied to the station, prepared to do anything to earn some cash. After welcoming me at reception, I was ushered into a studio and plopped in front of a microphone. I was handed a short script. “When the red light comes on,” said my host, “just read what’s on the paper.” As I emerged from the studio a smiling controller said, “He’s a natural!” Twenty-eight years later I still sit behind a microphone and speak when the light turns red.

This little story is only one example in my life of how my Lord and Guide has opened opportunities for me by his omniscient sovereign design. Granted, we have free will and thus, the freedom to choose our life’s path. However, in my experience, if we acknowledge God in everything then he will direct the paths of our lives. And sometimes God simply throws his awe-inspiring plans at us, dropping us in the deep end saying, “There you go. Swim!”

If you continue to acknowledge the Lord in all your ways; if you walk by faith and not by sight and if you keep your eyes stayed on Jesus the author and perfecter of your faith then he will direct your life tracks according to his perfect plan for you. So don’t be surprised the next time you find yourself treading water. Just remember he’s there with you, even in the deep end.

SO, DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY

“I commit my future to you and ask that you will open the doors that you know will suit me and where I will be productive and successful.”

“Dear Lord, thank you that you know the plans you have for me. Thank you that you know me better than I know myself and that your plans are always for my good. I commit my future to you and ask that you will open the doors that you know will suit me and where I will be productive and successful. I acknowledge you in every aspect of my life and trust your discretion in designing my life track. Help me, O Lord, to swim in the deep end. Amen.”

GOD-TRACKING IS GOING WHERE YOU’VE NEVER BEEN BEFORE

Matthew 28:20“I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

So, don’t be surprised the next time you find yourself treading water. Just remember he is always with you, even in the deep end.”

God-Tracking is going where you’ve never been before

When I was about 10-years old, a cousin showed me a few chords on an old guitar. I remember learning the three-chord wonder, I’m on the Top of the World in the key of A. However, because I didn’t have a guitar of my own, I soon lost interest. About 4 years later a friend of my brother gave me a beat-up buzzing old steel string guitar, that was impossible to tune.  I loved that old thing and was motivated to give music another bash. I taught myself a few more chords and was encouraged to play along with my youth leader during sing-a-longs at youth group meetings. Eventually, with a shining new 12-string guitar under my arm, I found myself leading a few choruses before the evening service at church. Even so, I had no deep-seated aspiration to become the next Phil Keaggy of the Christian music world and yet… God had a plan for me.

I was soon to find the girl of my dreams and we settled in a city away from home. We soon found a good little church to attend a few minutes’ drive from our inner-city apartment. Over tea at the end of the morning service on our second visit to the church, it was discovered that I was a guitarist. “Would you play for us next Sunday,” was the prompt request. “Next Sunday!?” I replied. “Yes, our previous worship leader left two weeks ago, and we’ve been praying the Lord would soon send us a new one. And he has!” I was flabbergasted. By now I had indeed added a few extra chords to my repertoire, but I was not ready to take to the stage of a new church in front of 150 people to lead worship. And yet, I had a deep sense that the Lord was doing what he’s always has done in my life – plunging me into the deep end, saying, “Do not be dismayed, I am with you. Swim!”

Dear God Tracker, God has a habit of dropping us into the deep end. This little story is only a sample of several in my life where my Lord has done just that. You see, I have discovered that tracking God’s will is not that difficult, really. Granted, God does often present us with choices (and I think we know clearly when he does this), but more often than not he surprises us with his awe-inspiring plans and simply says, “I am with you. Swim!”
Let me say that if you continue to acknowledge the Lord in all your ways; if you walk by faith and not by sight and if you keep your eyes stayed on Jesus the author and perfecter of your faith, then he will direct your paths according to his plans for you. So, don’t be surprised the next time you find yourself treading water. Just remember he is always with you, even in the deep end.

DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY

I boldly pray, determine my steps

“Father God I know my life is wrapped up in your will. Help me to always walk according to your plans. I accept your plans for my life and submit my own will to yours. Your will is often so blatant that I find myself in deep water floundering to keep head above the waves. And yet, you are with me and your purposes always prevail in my life. Dear Lord, I submit my skills and talents to you; do with them what you will. I continue to acknowledge you. I boldly pray, determine my steps. Amen.”
