We trust Jesus when it’s his plan for us to stop today. And we trust Jesus when it’s his plan to guide our steps for tomorrow.”

Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Like most people, I often find myself longing back to those so-called, good ‘ol days. At my age, I have enjoyed not too few wonderful opportunities to share the Good News. I have had the great privilege of broadcasting God’s word on radio for the best part of 30 years. I have led small groups and large groups. I have enjoyed decades of music ministry as a worship leader and have had the honour of pastoring a church for 15 years. All these past years of great ministry privilege have been most fruitful. However, as I write, I tend to find myself reminiscing the good old days, without contemplating the good new days that God might still have ahead for me. Can you relate to this scenario?

Evangelist and Bible teacher, J. John said, “Jesus guides our steps and guides our stops." We often rejoice when new and prosperous opportunities open for us on this path of life. Unfortunately, when these opportunities eventually come to a close, we mope about longing for how things were. Scripture makes it plain; God knows the plans he has for us. His plans are always good and thriving, filled with purpose. In Proverbs, we read that if we acknowledge God in all our ways, then he will direct our life track.

Now, faith is the confidence in things we hope for. We cannot hope for what we already have or what we have previously had. Hope is futuristic. Therefore, we hope that God’s plans and purposes will work out for us today as they have done so in our past. Consequently, we trust Jesus when it’s his plan for us to stop today and we trust Jesus when it’s his plan to guide our steps for tomorrow.

God-tracking is walking in his steps and stops.

“I submit my future to you, O Lord, and have faith that you will fulfil the plans you know you have for me.”

“Dear Father, thank you for the promise in your word that you have plans for my life. I believe you are the God of my yesterday, today and tomorrow. Therefore, I trust your guidance in my life to stop and your guidance in my life to step. I submit my future to you, O Lord, and have faith that you will fulfil the plans you know you have for me. Amen.

Know this, he who knows the plans he has for you will plant you in his chosen location in his garden. The Gardener may uproot you – even prune you – but you will soon prosper, producing new pleasing fruit.”

Psalm 62:5
My soul, wait silently for God alone. For my expectation is from Him.

Young David had recently killed the Philistine champion, Goliath, and gained victory for the Israelites. Sadly, King Saul was jealous of David’s fame and fortitude and sought to take his life. I could well imagine how David must have felt. He may have hoped that the king would promote him to serve the Lord as Saul’s right hand. Unfortunately, this was not the case. David must have been greatly disappointed. But David knew his God and he knew his God had great plans for him. David writes, “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust.”

Disappointment can be immensely disheartening. You may feel you have trudged through life working so hard to achieve your goals only to be let down by others. Disappointment is not failure. Failure only ensues if you quit. Sometimes God allows your goals to come to naught only to raise you up for new and prosperous opportunities.

Imagine a young tree growing strong in a fine garden. The gardener waters it regularly and gently prunes it every season. It’s growing tall and strong in, what it believes is, a splendid location. One day, the gardener decides that the tree would be far more effective in a different position in the garden. So, he carefully uproots it and replants it in a newly chosen place. The tree may feel forlorn and disappointed, believing he has been rejected by the gardener. Initially, it wilts. It loses many leaves. Its fruit fails for one season but then, as spring arrives anew, the tree takes root and begins to flourish, providing shade to the weary and fruit for the hungry.

Perhaps, like David and our dear tree in this story, you feel you have been let down or rejected. It could be you feel disappointed and abandoned. Know this, he who knows the plans he has for you will plant you in his chosen location in his garden. The Gardener may uproot you – even prune you – but you will soon prosper, producing new pleasing fruit.

God-tracking is being replanted by the divine Gardner.

“Help me to adjust to my new position in the garden and, like King David, help me to rest in you, my rock.”

“Lord, I feel so lost. I’ve been disappointed and let down by others. I feel like I don’t belong in this place anymore. Yet, I know you’ll never abandon your plans for my life. If I need to be uprooted and replanted then do it. Help me to adjust to my new position in the garden and, like King David, help me to rest in you, my rock. Amen.”

“Acknowledge God in all you do and he will give you fresh opportunities. Make the most of these new opportunities with wisdom.”

Proverbs 29:18 (KJV)
Where there is no vision, the people perish.

I opened the bread box yesterday afternoon with great ambition to make myself a big soft succulent
sandwich for lunch. Inside was a loaf of bread. Taking it out I gave it a gentle  squeeze. To my dismay, it was firm, not soft. The bread had gotten stale. My longing for a luscious lunch was dashed. Reluctantly, I toddled off to the corner shop to buy a new fresh loaf of bread.

Fresh vision is crucial to effective productivity. When one starts out on a new adventure to make an impact on the world, he may embark on his voyage with gusto, having a clear vision for his work or ministry. However, soon, as with a pleasing loaf of bread, this vision may become stale.

For a believer, vision and purpose are directed by the Lord. Scripture makes it clear that God has plans for his children. God’s purposes are deliberate and intentional. We can be sure that, if we are following the plans of God, he will vitalise our vision with his purpose. Therefore, we need to follow his guidance unreservedly with fresh vision as God drops it into our hearts.

Perhaps your vision has become stale. Without fresh vision, you will fail. Be encouraged to seek the Lord daily for inspiration and motivation. Acknowledge God in all you do and he will give you fresh opportunities. Make the most of these new opportunities with wisdom.

Be ready. God has a fresh plan for you.

God-tracking is following fresh vision.

“I commit my work to you and pray for fresh vision, O Lord.”

“Dear Lord, I have been doing this work for ages. I know I am following your directive in this effort. However, I feel my vision has become stale. I commit my work to you and pray for fresh vision, O Lord. Help me to make the most of every new opportunity with energy and purpose. Dear Lord, I seek your will and plan for my life. Amen.”

“This is your moment to seize the day – redeem the time, because these days are evil – and make the most of every opportunity to share the love of God.”

Ephesians 5:16
redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

A Moment in A Manger

We don’t know when Jesus was born but it was an auspicious moment in time. Was it a coincidence that Caesar called for a census at the exact time Mary was due to give birth? Her time had come yet Joseph was forced to travel to Bethlehem to register for the census. And so it was, in a moment in a manger in Bethlehem, as prophesied by Micah the prophet, Jesus the Messiah and Saviour of the world was born. Jesus arrived just in time.

A Moment on a Cross

Jesus was born for one reason – to be the appeasement for the sin of the world: the righteous as a substitute for the unrighteous. The moment Jesus breathed his last on the cross and said, “It is finished,” he triumphed over sin, death and Satan. That one moment in time redeemed you and me for all time. For while we were still weak in sin, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. All of history is wrapped up in that one moment. God’s timing was perfect. Jesus died and rose again just in time.

The Moment of His Return

Jesus was born as the infant king on Christmas morning. He became the Servant king on the cross but he is returning as the King of Kings! We live in precarious times: wars, rumours of wars, pestilence, natural disasters, and degradation of biblical morality. But these are all timely indicators of the return of Christ, as he promised. While it is yet today, let us take the time to call on his name and wait patiently for his return. Jesus is coming back anytime now. He will return just in time.

This is Your Moment

We are compelled by our love for God and our love for our neighbour to share the gospel of Jesus. More and more, the truth of God’s word is becoming contrasted with the ways of the world around us. More than ever, we are being singled out because of our stance toward the absolutes of Scripture. And yet, love prevails. This moment in time, more than ever before, is an auspicious moment to share the love of God: For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, just in time, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life. This is your moment to seize the day – redeem the time, because these days are evil – and make the most of every opportunity to share the love of God. God has called you just in time.

God-tracking is a timely endeavour

SO, DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY

“ Help me to seize the day and make the most of every moment to tell people about Christ.”

“Dear Lord, I praise and thank you that Jesus was born at the right time to grow up and die for the sins of the world. Jesus died just in time to save me from sin and death. Thank you for the cross, O Lord. And thank you that you will return, just in time, to rescue us from this world. Come soon, Lord Jesus! And so, dear Lord, I give myself to you at this time, to be a sacrifice of praise and to share your love whenever I can. Help me to seize the day and make the most of every moment to tell people about the love of Christ. Amen.”
