Here’s wishing you and yours a truly hope-filled and blessed 2026. One thing I have learned, as I have tracked the plans of God throughout my life, is this: God’s new is always new, and in this New Year, I believe He is doing a new thing in your life. Be encouraged to live expectantly of God’s plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

In a world faced with terrorism, rampant secularism and Christian persecution and war, it’s so good to know that the Lord our God has made a way for us to walk in peace and hope. In Christ, we enjoy a surpassing peace; not peace as the world knows it, but a deep inner peace in whatever conflict we may face. And the hope that he has given us comes from the faith generated by the words of Jesus, the author and perfecter of our lives.

Jesus faced opposition on every side, yet he rested in God’s perfect will for his life even when it cost him his life on the cross. However, Jesus faced crucifixion in full confidence that the Spirit of God would raise him from the dead and seat him at the right hand of God in glory. We are called follow this example by fixing our eyes on Jesus and not on the difficulties surrounding us, gleaning from the faith his word produces in us.

God-tracking, therefore, is facing every new day and every new year and every new challenge with faith and confidence that he will guide us through troubled, needy times with great peace, in the hope of his good plans for our lives. Corrie Ten Boom said, “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.” If 2026 appears anything less than rosy from where you’re standing today, then don’t give up but look up into the eyes of Jesus and say, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Don’t Give Up, Look Up & Pray

“I rest in the peace of Jesus and have faith in the hope that your word brings to my life.”

“Dear Lord, thank you for bringing me this far. As I face the New Year, I know that you will always remain faithful to your word to guide and bless me according to your great plans for my life. Help me, therefore, to faithfully track your plans and purposes by keeping my eyes on Jesus and acknowledging you in all my ways. My soul, wait silently for God alone. For my expectation is from Him.

Young David had recently killed the Philistine champion, Goliath, and gained victory for the Israelites. Sadly, King Saul was jealous of David’s fame and fortitude and sought to take his life. I could well imagine how David must have felt. He may have hoped that the king would promote him to serve the Lord as Saul’s right hand. Unfortunately, this was not the case. David must have been greatly disappointed. But David knew his God and he knew his God had great plans for him. David writes, “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust.”

Disappointment can be immensely disheartening. You may feel you have trudged through life working so hard to achieve your goals only to be let down by others. Disappointment is not failure. Failure only ensues if you quit. Sometimes God allows your goals to come to naught only to raise you up for new and prosperous opportunities.

Imagine a young tree growing strong in a fine garden. The gardener waters it regularly and gently prunes it every season. It’s growing tall and strong in, what it believes is, a splendid location. One day, the gardener decides that the tree would be far more effective in a different position in the garden. So, he carefully uproots it and replants it in a newly chosen place. The tree may feel forlorn and disappointed, believing he has been rejected by the gardener. Initially, it wilts. It loses many leaves. Its fruit fails for one season but then, as spring arrives anew, the tree takes root and begins to flourish, providing shade to the weary and fruit for the hungry.

Perhaps, like David and our dear tree in this story, you feel you have been let down or rejected. It could be you feel disappointed and abandoned. Know this, he who knows the plans he has for you will plant you in his chosen location in his garden. The Gardener may uproot you – even prune you – but you will soon prosper, producing new pleasing fruit.

God-tracking is being replanted by the divine Gardner.

A GREATER MEASURE OF SHALOM

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

Karen and I had just cleared customs and climbed aboard our tour bus in Israel. It was a warm April afternoon in Tel Aviv. There was an air of jubilation among our travelling comrades, excited to be spending the next ten days together. We were thrilled to be traveling through the Holy Land visiting the many sites where Jesus lived and ministered. Naturally, none of us spoke any modern Hebrew. As our tour guide settled us down and welcomed us to Israel he said, “The first thing I need to tell you is, in Israel, we do not say ‘hello’ or ‘goodbye’. We always greet one another with only one word, the word shalom.”

I always thought that shalom meant peace. Indeed, it does. However, this word means a lot more than just peace. In English, we often have only one word to describe complex emotions. Take the word love, for instance. English has only one word for love (excluding similar words that describe the same emotion, like affection). In Greek, for example, there are four different words for love that describe four different aspects of the emotion. The same goes for the word, peace. In English peace means freedom from disturbance or tranquillity, whereas the Hebrew word shalom means so much more. According to Strong’s Dictionary shalom means, safe, happy, friendly, welfare, prosperity and… peace.

God-tracking is based on the premise that God knows the plans he has for us. Our God is a benevolent and loving Father. Every father desires the best for his children. As Jesus once said, “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” This is the same Father God who said, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you; thoughts of peace, and not of evil.” The English KJV Bible uses the word peace but the original Hebrew word is shalom. Therefore, God’s thoughts for you are for your safety, happiness, welfare, prosperity and… peace.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord

The people of God had fallen away from the purposes of God by contaminating their lifestyles with the trends of their unbelieving neighbours. They compromised their worship with idolatry. They had opened the door to the real enemy of God’s purposes – the devil – and given him the opportunity to wreak havoc with their future as a nation. As a result, they were conquered by the Babylonians who dragged them into captivity for 70 years. At the advent of this calamity, God gave the prophet Jeremiah a word. He said, “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will visit you, and I will fulfil to you my promise and bring you back to this place. For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

This devotional has at its core the concept of tracking the plans and purposes of God. Indeed, God does have a plan for you and me, as we acknowledge him in all our ways. I have discovered the truth of this statement is, it is God who knows these plans but we don’t; not until he reveals them to us. Therefore, for us to walk in the plans God knows he has for us, we need to seek and track his plans in all we do. Hence, God-tracking. As you seek and track the plans God knows he has for you by acknowledging him in all your ways, you become a GodTracker.

God’s plans for us, and the Body of Christ at large, are to bless us and cause us to enjoy a thriving future. However, as with Jeremiah’s compatriots, sometimes the compromise of integrity creeps into our lifestyles. Sadly, I believe calamities like Covid-19 occur because of this compromise. But God uses calamity to soften our hearts and, in repentance, to bring our focus back to him, the author of our faith.

Therefore, dear GodTracker, may we look through trials and tribulations and fix our eyes on Jesus who, for the joy set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and was seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Just as the Israelites returned to rebuild Jerusalem and prosper, so the Lord plans to restore your hope for a flourishing future.

The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.

Man plans but God ordains. In Proverbs we read that, though we attempt to plan our lives, the answer comes from the Lord. God-tracking has as its theses, seeking and tracking the plans and purposes of God. Scripture tells us that God knows the plans he has for us. Indeed, God does have a plan for us. He plans the day we take our first breath, the day we take our last and everything in-between. If you acknowledge the Lord God in all your ways then he will direct your life track according to the plans he knows he has for you. So, trust his plans, always, and do not rely on your own understanding of life’s circumstances.

So, when calamity strikes and we watch our life’s plans being ground under feet, it’s a relief to know that, as we acknowledge God, it is he who establishes our steps. You may be facing calamity today but here’s a word for you: The Lord is establishing your steps. His hand has not departed from you. This is a day for the building of your walls and a day that your boundaries shall be far extended. Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead press in by faith and lay hands on what God has ordained. He knows the plans he has for you; his plans will prevail, if you continue to acknowledge God is all your ways. He will provide. He will guide. He will sustain you to press in. God will make you worthy of his calling and fulfil every good work of faith by his power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you.

GOD-TRACKING IS GIVING WITH THE RIGHT HEART

Giving has always been a contentious issue among Christians. Some people believe that when we give, we should never expect anything in return. Others say that giving is a means to gain personal wealth. Which is it?

Jesus advocated giving. Firstly, he endorsed the paying of tithes with the account of the poor widow’s mite. He was sitting opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Secondly, he said things like, “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Elsewhere we read of how Paul was in need and the Philippian folks gave generously to meet his budget. Of their gifts, Paul writes, “They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.” Writing to the Corinthians he says, “Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. God loves a cheerful giver.” And God always blesses the one he loves. (Remember, though Paul writes these words, they were inspired by the Holy Spirit – all Scripture is God-breathed.)

God loves the act of giving because God is a giver. Notice what the Scripture says in Philippians 4 verse 19, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” Likewise, Jesus implies that the giver, with the right heart motive, will be profusely blessed in return.
For the Christian, giving needs to be an open and honest act; not done to impress others but done cheerfully, with the motive of giving rather than receiving. Thus done, our God of abundance, who is true to his word, will never see the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread!

GOD-TRACKING IS NEVER LOSING HOPE IN GOD’S GOOD PLANS

Romans 8:28And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose

This e-devotional is founded on the fact that God knows the plans he has for us. In Jeremiah chapter 29 we read that famous verse that says God’s plans are for welfare and not for evil; to give us a future and a hope. In Romans 8 we’re told that, for those who are called according to God’s plans, all things work together for the good. And in Hebrews 11 it says, “Whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” We seek God by faith and faith solidifies that hope spoken of by Jeremiah. I believe it is safe to say that, as a loving Father, God desires what is good for his children.

When Jeremiah prophesied about God’s plans for welfare and hope, he was speaking to his people who had been taken captive by the Babylonians. At the time, I could well imagine, Jeremiah’s flock thinking, “A future and a hope? We’ve been dragged away from our homeland, and he prophesies prosperity?” But God’s plan was to test his people and bring them to a place of complete surrender and dependence on him. God’s plan was always to bless his people, but their hearts had grown cold and complacent. One generation later, after Babylonian exile, God fulfilled his promise and brought his beloved back to the Promised Land.

Dear God-tracker, God has an ambition to bless you and fill your life with good things. His plans for you are wonderful! He wants to meet your needs, grant you the desires of your heart and prosper you. Yes, prosper you! However, as you read this thought, you may say, “I don’t feel very prosperous today. My hope has waned, and my future seems bleak.” But your Lord says, “I know the plans I have for you. Plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Weeping endures for a night, but joy comes in the morning. After the difficulty will come the deliverance. (I have discovered that those God calls, he tests.) He is your source and your resource. He will restore the years the locusts have devoured. What you have sowed in tears you will reap with joy. So, continue to acknowledge the Lord in all your ways and keep your eyes on Jesus. God knows the plans he has for you!

I realise that these trials have been sent to test and prove me for the great plans you have for my future. I totally surrender myself to you in spirit, soul and flesh, and seek first your kingdom and your righteousness. By faith, I put my confidence for things hoped for, squarely in your sovereign benevolence. Thank you for the good things that you have planned for my life. Amen.”

GOD-TRACKING IS NEVER LETTING GO OF GOD’S PLANS, EVEN THROUGH YOUR BABYLON EXPERIENCES

Deuteronomy 31:8
It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you;
he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

 

This e-mail devotional is based on the fact that God has plans for each of us. The Bible tells us that God knows the plans he has for us, plans for a prosperous and hopeful future. I have personally discovered this fact to be true in my life. Sometimes, however, God’s plans seem to be far away and other times they seem obscured by our disobedience. Yet, God’s plans are always for our good; his Word tells us that all things work out for the good of those who are called according to his purposes. The point to remember is, it is God who knows the plans he has for us; we don’t, not until he reveals them to us, that is. Therefore, we need to seek and track God’s plans by acknowledging him in all our ways. Hence, the phrase, God-tracking!

Within the historical context of the scripture which tells us God knows the plans he has for us, the Holy Spirit is talking to the people of Israel through Jeremiah. Because of their rebellion, God sent the Israelites into exile to Babylon. He mentions that they will be in Babylonian captivity for 70 years, after which the Lord would restore his people once again. Even though he intended to discipline them through this experience, God says, “For I know the plans I have for you. When you seek me with all your heart I will be found by you and I will restore your fortunes.” You see, God’s plan was for his people to be tried and tested under the Babylonians to bring their hearts back to him. Through it all, the Lord never abandoned the Israelites. He was always with them, even raising up great leaders like Daniel to bring his word to them during their dark trials. All through their hardship they were never alone. God still had great plans for Israel and he maintained a remnant among them who would ultimately fulfill his plans.

Dear God-tracker, the Lord has great plans for your life, too. You may find yourself facing a Babylonian experience today, but he has not abandoned you. If you are guilty of disobedience in any way (as the Israelites were) then be very quick to repent before your God. God always looks at the heart – make sure your heart is right before him, today. Then stand firm on the promise he has given you: “I know the plans I have to bless you with a future filled with hope and goodwill!” So be sure to continue acknowledging the Lord in every aspect of your life – you work, recreation, relationships and pastimes – and he will direct you according to his plans for you. Hold onto his promises through your tough times. Never let go of the hope he has given you and rest in the knowledge that he will never leave you nor forsake you.

God-tracking is never letting go of God’s plans, even through your Babylon experiences.

 “O Lord I realise today that I may be in this predicament because of disobedience in my life. I apologise, Lord. I confess and repent of my sin. Thank you that you are gracious and faithful to forgive me and cleanse me from all wrong doing. Looking back I can see that you have never turned your back on me. You have been with me through this trial and have promised a way out into your glorious plans for my future. I put my hope in your promise, O Lord. I claim the plans you have for my future and rest in the knowledge of your foreknowledge of my life. Help me to seek you and keep my eyes on Jesus, always. Amen.”
