We serve a God that is totally devoted to the ones he loves, so much so that he gave his only begotten son to take the consequences of their sins. Jesus did not swoon at Calvary. Jesus did not show a loving motion by simply offering to die in our place. Jesus gave himself completely on the cross to save us from all that separated us from God. God didn’t simply make a polite gesture by saying, “I love you,” he literally became like one of us in order to totally reconcile us to himself after we had grieved his righteousness. God entirely demonstrated his love for all of us in this, while we were yet sinners, Christ completely died for us. How much more so, then, should we be totally devoted to him?

For instance, praise and worship can often be a gauge of our total devotion. I love to sing my heart out to God with gusto and total abandon, so much so that I think I sometimes embarrass myself. However, when I realise that Jesus was not embarrassed to call out, as he hung naked on the cross, “Father forgive them,” I realise that I have nothing to hide about my devotion to him.

Also, the Bible tells us that faith pleases God and that God rewards those who are totally devoted to having faith in him. Faith is demonstrative. Faith requires putting your money where your mouth is. In other words, faith is an all or nothing venture. God loves it when we shout out, “God will provide,” or “I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me,” or “Greater is he who lives in me than he who lives in the world!” God loves our faith; he loves it when we’re totally devoted and sold out to him.

God-tracking is seeking and tracking the plans that God has for our lives. He knows the plans he has for us; God does nothing by half measure. He is totally devoted to seeing his plans through. Therefore, let us hold nothing back as we totally devote ourselves to seek his plans and purposes.

God-tracking is total devotion!

“Can we expect miracles in our personal life and ministry?” I read on my social media feed. The question had been posted by someone desperate to know more about Jesus. Is this Jesus we worship today really still the same person as described in the Bible?

In the Bible, we read that Jesus from Nazareth was a gentle yet forthright teacher who never compromised on the principles of the same Scriptures we find today in our Bible. He is described as a prophet with great authority. But Jesus was more than a teacher and a prophet; he was the miracle-working Son of God – the Messiah. However, of all we read about Jesus the Christ in the ancient writings of our Scriptures, what can we expect of him in the 21^st century?

Firstly, let me remind you that Jesus is still alive. Indeed, as we read his story, we note that he was savagely killed by the people he ministered to. But this fact is part of the story. As Messiah, though sinless, Jesus needed to bear the consequences of sin, which is death. And he died. However, he did not remain dead. Three days after the crucifixion, Jesus rose from the dead and has not died again. He ascended to heaven where he is seated at God’s right hand. This is wonderful news, but where does this leave us, in the 21^st century?

Jesus Christ said, “Truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do.” Do you believe in him? And Jesus said, “And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demon; speak in new tongues; pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.” Do you believe in him?

Elsewhere in the Bible, we read that we are: “…seated with God in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” And, “It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.” And, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” If you believe that Jesus rose from the dead, then you believe he is alive in the 21st century and that he has the same power he had in Bible times. If you believe in Jesus, then you have the same power Christ had in Bible times to do the same miracles he did, in the 21st century.

Only believe!

God has an uncanny way of always turning up at the right place and at the right time, doesn’t he?  For instance, just the other week I was crying out to him - again - for his “blessings” on my life, whining and moaning about that common ol’ problem… money!  I do realise that I’m not alone in this cry to God because money (or lack thereof) is an issue that affects us all. I grumbled to God that I missed those days when he would surprise me with a spontaneous little gift here and there.  Why has it stopped?  Why haven’t I been “blessed” like that for a while?  What am I doing wrong?

When I finally stopped complaining, God reminded me that he, not only hears my prayers, but he knows exactly how and when to bless me. I sat down at my desk with an envelope that I found in my letterbox. I lazily opened it to discover a spontaneous anonymous donation towards my ministry!

You see, God doesn’t just hear your prayers for help, he knows everything about your need. And he knows more about your life than just the needs you might have at this moment. He knows your wants, your dreams and your deepest desires.  He knows your motives and the secrets of your heart.  He knows your frustrations and your fears.  He knows it all and he knows how to take care of it all.

The amount that I found in that envelope was not a large amount of money. However, what blessed me about God’s provision was the how and the when I received it. God was reminding me that he is still in control of my life, my family and my ministry, even when it seems to me, he is silent. Even when my need seems bigger than Mt Kilimanjaro, I know that he is the God who removes mountains and casts them into the sea! And he does so in his own timing.

God knows your future. He is the one who controls your input and your output. He is the one who opens and closes the doors of opportunity according to his perfect timing. Provided you keep your eyes on him and acknowledge him in all your ways, you can trust him to provide all you will ever need for daily living, precisely when you need it!

God-tracking is expecting God’s blessings, in his time.

“In the face of every person I stabbed,” said the young man in the video I was watching, “I saw the face of my father. I hated my father. He was a cruel drunkard who would beat my mom and me.” The testimony went on to tell of how this young man had become a violent teenage gang member who found himself in prison for murder. Then one day, while in solitary confinement, Jesus appeared to him. This young man was stripped to his core. He fell on his face and surrendered his life to Christ. When he was finally released from prison, he forgave his father and led him to Jesus.

I love hearing stories like this. They truly reveal the power of God’s grace and forgiveness. Perhaps your story is like this young man’s story. It could be that Jesus has saved you from a life of violent crime, intense depression or desperate abandonment and you have come to realise the same forgiveness and healing that the man in our story had. Or perhaps not. It could be that, like me, you grew up in a Christian home and simply came to terms with the fact that Jesus died for you. Accepting him as Lord and saviour, you found peace and hope but, for all intents and purposes, your life hardly changed. So, whose experience is more real?

The one thing I often tend to miss when I read or hear testimonies of radically powerful conversions like this is, the same Lord who saved that life, saved mine. Albeit not as dramatically or visually pungent, the same Jesus that appeared to this man in his prison cell has touched my life. Just because I did not suffer the same ills that he suffered before coming to Christ, and just because I did not have a supernatural encounter as he did, does not mean I am less saved from a life of sin and depravity than he is.

The day you said to Jesus, “I accept you as my Lord and Saviour and give my life to you,” you were radically changed on the inside. Instantaneously, your spirit-man was transformed; you were born again. The Bible says that the old has gone and the new has come. In Christ, you are a new creature. You have been supernaturally reconciled to the holy Creator of the universe and now walk with him in intimate fellowship. And he has great plans for you. One word from your lips, under his anointing, can change the world – change one life and you change the world, through those eyes. In Christ, your story matters!

“At times… my life has felt like a lump of molten glass at the end of a glassblower’s blowpipe that has popped under the pressures of life. It is then that the Glassblower has returned me to his furnace and turned up the heat.”

Jeremiah 18:4And the vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter's hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to do.

There is a craft centre near my home where a glassblower has set up his shop. I love going down there to watch him at work. He begins by attaching a lump of raw glass to the end of his blowpipe and then places it in the furnace. When the glass is heated sufficiently and softened by the heat, he removes it from the fire and begins to gently blow through the pipe into the molten glass. Slowly, under the pressure of his breath, the lump of glass begins to expand until it becomes a glowing bubble. Gradually, he continues to shape the piece and add other parts to it until he has formed it into the masterpiece of his design.

All along the glassblower has the shape and purpose of the object he is shaping, in his mind. In his heart, he has decided its purpose and splendour. If the piece he is blowing becomes disfigured or bursts under the pressure of his blowing, he will place it back in the furnace and reshape it until it fits perfectly with the plan he had for the object he is creating.

“I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. If you know and have acknowledged Christ as Lord of your life, then you can be sure he has a plan for you. The Scripture tells us that if we acknowledge God in all our ways, he will direct our life’s track. Your Lord is omniscient. That is, God knows everything there is to know about everything. This includes you and your whole life. God knows your past, your present and your future. You are the object of his creation. More than this, God knows what he has in his mind for the object he is creating. You have purpose!

Don’t let anyone convince you that you are useless or worthless. Your value is equal to the value of the life of God’s own Son, Jesus. You see, God Almighty sent Jesus to give his life for you, that you may have new life in him. God does nothing by chance. In Christ, your life does not operate by random default, it operates by purposeful design.

However, sometimes it doesn’t feel as though we have any purpose in life. I know that feeling – I’ve been there, too. At times like this, my life has felt like a lump of molten glass at the end of a glassblower’s blowpipe that has popped under the pressures of life. It is then that the Glassblower has returned me to his furnace and turned up the heat. But, when that happens, he is merely refining my purity and softening my heart so that I will again become malleable under the pressure of his breath.
God knows the plans he has for you, dear GodTracker. So, keep your heart soft and your eyes on Jesus as you seek his perfect purpose for your life.

GOD-TRACKING IS SPEAKING POSITIVE WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

“Transparency is a healthy concept but when being transparent causes undue hurt, it is better to guard the gate of your lips.”

Psalm 141:3Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!

Steve was packing up his guitar after leading worship at the Sunday evening church service. He’d been attending this church for three years and believed he had built good relationships with other people in the fellowship. As he picked up his guitar to leave, Ron walked up to him.
“Steve, the music was good tonight,” he said, “but I need to tell you something. We’ve known each other for a while but, I want you to know that I’ve always had a problem with you. But I sorted it out tonight. I’m ok with you now.” Ron promptly turned on his heels and strode away, leaving Steve bamboozled and wondering what it was about him that Ron had had a problem with. Ron’s heart was now “ok”, but it was Steve who was now left with the “problem”.

Words are like superglue. Once you get it on your fingers it sticks. Author Ted Chiang said, “Four things do not come back: the spoken word, the sped arrow, the past life, and the neglected opportunity.” Scripture tells us that the words we speak have the power to inspire life or bring death to a soul. Jesus said this: “Hear and understand, it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.” He also said, “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”

Ron believed he was being honest and transparent when he told Steve he had a problem with him. However, Steve had no idea that he had ever offended Ron in any way what so ever. Ron only invoked concern in Steve’s heart with his confession; concern that he was not a nice guy. Ron’s statement left Steve feeling confused about his subliminal character and behaviour. How many other people had he unwittingly offended? He felt hurt that he had somehow offended Steve without knowing it.

Dear God Tracker, let us beware of our words! My mother used to always say, “Think before you speak.” In our story today, Ron might have thought he was being honest with Steve when he told him he’d always had a problem with him, but his words did more damage than they did good. Transparency is a healthy concept but when being transparent causes undue hurt, it is better to guard the gate of your lips. Therefore, as God’s word says, let us rather encourage one another with our words and build one another up.

GOD-TRACKING IS DEPENDING ON GOD’S UNMERITED FAVOUR

Let the favour of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!

G.W. Knight said, “When a person works an eight-hour day and receives a fair day's pay for his time, that is a wage. When a person competes with an opponent and receives a trophy for his performance, that is a prize. When a person receives appropriate recognition for his long service or high achievements, that is an award. But when a person is not capable of earning a wage, can win no prize, and deserves no award--yet receives such a gift anyway--that is a good picture of God's unmerited favour. This is what we mean when we talk about the grace of God.”

Grace is God’s doing. And God did it when he sent Jesus to die and rise from the dead, on our part. Though you and are not capable of earning a wage, can win no prize, and deserves no award, yet receive such a gift anyway, demonstrates God’s saving grace. Jesus took the wages of sin when he died and was awarded the prize of victory when he rose from the grave, on our part. The true picture of God's unmerited favour – his grace – is our salvation.

However, God’s grace does not only save us, God’s grace empowers us to serve. God’s grace establishes the work of our hands. God’s grace is sufficient.

I’ve been through some intense times of demotivation in my life. Times when I’ve been unmotivated to go to work or perform my daily tasks, unmotivated to speak to people and even unmotivated to do home chores. Yet, the show must go on! You know that feeling? When you wake up in the morning with no energy to face the day, but still need to get on with the job.

It was on one of these mornings that the Holy Spirit led me to Psalm 90:17: “Let the favour of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!” Indeed, I needed motivation to get the job done, but only God could motivate me. I needed his favour on my meagre effort, to establish the work of my hands. His grace is his favour.
It’s at times like these that I’ve learned how important it is to put self aside and humbly seek the grace of God. If grace is God’s doing, then I need God to work through me today. His grace has saved me from sin and death and his grace establishes the work of my hands.

“O Lord, I’ve run out of steam. I’m threadbare and rundown. I need your help to continue. Thank you for your grace. If grace is your doing, then Lord, do this work through me. Thank you for your favour. It’s because you show me favour, through Jesus, that I know that you’ll establish the work of my hands! Praise you for your unmerited favour. Today, O Lord, I commit my work to you, I commit my relationships to you, and I commit every moment of my future to you. Your grace is enough. Amen.”
