“I need to look up higher than the hills to find my help!”

Proverbs 4:25

Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you.

Don’t give up, look up! These were words I once wrote on the blank interleading page of my Bible between the Old and the New Testaments. I have reminded myself of that phrase countless times when pressures have risen and oppositions mounted.
My old dad’s favourite Bible reference was found in Psalm 121: “I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come?” He would say, “I need to look up to see the hills, but my help does not come from the hills.” Then he’d quote the next verse, “My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth,” adding, “I need to look up higher than the hills to find my help!”
The Bible is full of what I call Look Up Verses. Look out for look up verses when you read the Bible. If you feel like giving up today, don’t. Rather look up! And look up these verses while you’re about it (see the context of each by clicking the Bible links below):
  •  “…God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fill every good purpose of yours and every act promoted by your faith.” (2 Thessalonians 1:11)
  • “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” (Isaiah 40:29)
  • “…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6)
  • “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)
  • “The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” (2 Timothy 4:18)

DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY

I lift up my eyes to beyond the hills, because I know my help comes from the maker of heaven and earth.

“Dear Father God, I feel as though I’ve reached the end of my tether. So much has gone wrong lately and I feel so totally unmotivated that I just want to give up. But I know that giving up is wrong. You, O Lord, are high and lifted up; high above all my worries and woes. So, I choose today to not give up, but look up. I lift up my eyes to beyond the hills, because I know my help comes from the maker of heaven and earth. Though I walk through this valley I know you are with me. I pray, direct my path and open your pre-planned purposes to me, that I may know the way, to walk in it. Praise you, Lord! Amen.”

If you prayed that prayer today, please email me - dudley@godtracker.co.uk
