GOD-TRACKING IS RESPONDING TO GOD’S CALL, IN AN INSTANT

“Matthew had a very secure job and lived in the lap of luxury. He had the protection of the state and the respect of the Romans. Yet, he left it all in an instant to follow the call of his Lord.”

Matthew 4:19
And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

Levi was a very rich man. However, his wealth was acquired by divisive gain. Levi was a Jewish tax collector who setup his booth in central Jerusalem where, accompanied by an armed Roman guard, he would solicit taxes for Caesar. It was his job to extort money from his own people, for a sizable reward from Rome. His neighbours hated him. Brave men would spit at his booth as they passed by. Tax collectors were considered to be cohorts with the Roman overlords and enemies of the Jews.

Jesus was in town one morning. There were many people reluctantly lining up at Levi’s booth to pay their dues to Rome. Jesus quietly stood at a distance watching. The Jewish teachers of the Law were waiting to see how he would react to this blight on the streets of Jerusalem. Then, from where he stood, Jesus looked straight at Levi and called out, “Follow me.” At that, the power of the conviction of God came upon Levi. He immediately stood up and, to the startlement of his Roman guard, strode over to Jesus. “Here I am, rabbi!” Levi bowed to his new Master.

In this story, Levi, or Matthew, as he became known, didn’t hesitate to drop everything at the call of Christ. He did not say, “I’ll need time to think about what you’re asking. Please give me a moment.” He immediately left his booth, his position as a tax collector and his money to obey Jesus. Matthew had a very secure job and lived in the lap of luxury. He had the protection of the state and respect of Rome. Yet, he left it all in an instant to follow the call of his Lord. Because of his obedience and submission, this man became one on Jesus’ inner circle and went on to pen one of the four gospel accounts of the life of Christ.

At the call of Christ Matthew spontaneously responded to follow him. Have you heard that call?

God-tracking is responding to God’s call, in an instant.

DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY

I rest in your empowering grace and seek first your kingdom and righteousness

“Lord, here I am, use me. Dear God I realise that I have been procrastinating for far too long. I have heard your call to move out and to follow what you have planned for me. Forgive me for waiting so long. I pray now that you will help me and equip me to follow that call. Help me to step out in faith and help me to succeed in the ministry to which you have called me. Lord, I rest in your empowering grace and seek first your kingdom and righteousness. Therefore, O Lord, I know that you will provide all I’ll ever need. Amen.”
