catch far greater than you could ever imagine.”

They immediately left
their nets and followed Him.
Peter and his brother Andrew were at the edge of Lake Tiberius
pulling in their nets after a morning of fishing. They had inherited their
business from their father, a fishing business that had, no doubt, been in
their family for many years. They had made a good catch that day and were
looking forward to setting up their stall on the banks of the lake to sell
their product. It was then that Jesus of Nazareth passed by. They had heard
that this man was a great teacher and miracle worker but had no ambition of
getting involved in his ministry. Jesus, pausing on the bank and squinting in
the sunlight at these two burly fishermen as they wound in their nets, called
out, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left
their nets and followed Him.
Indeed, Jesus was gaining a reputation as a great rabbi. These men gave up much
to follow him. They progressed to become great men of influence as they took
the message of Christ far and wide after Jesus’ death, resurrection and
ascension. However, at the point of their calling, they had no idea what the
future held. They simply believed in Jesus and his call on their lives to go
and make disciples. God had a plan for these guys, a plan for them to become
fishers of men with the promise that he would be with them always, even to the
end of the age.
Perhaps you’ve heard the call of Jesus, “Follow me, and I will make you a
fisher of men.” But perhaps you’re unsure of where he will lead you. It could
be that he is calling you to give up much to follow his lead. As Peter and
Andrew gave up their business to follow Jesus, it may be that the Lord is
calling you to do the same. Whatever you feel God is saying, wherever it could
be that you believe he is calling you, understand this, he will replace your
catch of fish with a catch far greater than you could ever imagine. God has a
plan for you to become a fisher of men with the promise that he will be with
you always, even to the end of the age.
God-tracking is giving it up to follow Jesus.

life. I’ll admit, O Lord, I’m afraid of where it will lead me. Forgive me for
