I recently watched a documentary on television that discussed the origins of Christianity. It portrayed “the Church” as a religious institution intent on taking over the world at all costs. However, what the documentary failed to reveal was the true origins of Christianity as seen on the Day of Pentecost when God poured his Spirit out on the early believers. Reading through Acts and the gospels shows a very different picture of the origins and motives of true Christianity.

If you call yourself a Christian and have truly committed yourself to following Christ, then you have chosen to live by all that Christ taught. And he taught:

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.” (Matthew 5:43-44)

And

 “Love your neighbour as yourself.” (Matthew 22:39)

And

“And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.” (Luke 6:31)

Taking over the world at all costs? I think not.
