Colossians 1:23(a)
…if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast…

A while back, I was driving home one afternoon, pondering life (as one does). I was thinking about my family, my work, my past and the prospects of my future when suddenly it dawned on me that it seemed as though I was tracing the outline of a picture of my life through old-fashioned tracing paper. You know the type. It’s sort of greyish in colour and slightly transparent. I used tracing paper when I was a child for school projects. I’d find a good picture for my project and place the tracing paper over the picture, then, armed with an FF pencil, I’d trace the dim outline of the picture that I could see through the tracing paper. Then I’d transfer the image to my project. Nowadays, of course, kids simply copy and paste and print from the World Wide Web.

The more I thought about this analogy, the more it dawned on me that if I could see my whole life laid out neatly before me with all the details in place then what part would faith play in the great scheme of God’s masterpiece of who I am? And without faith we cannot please God. Faith is required to seek and track God’s plans, like using a pencil to trace the outline of an image through tracing paper. Faith looks forward to God’s reward; faith anticipates God’s provision, and faith is the substance of things hoped for. The Apostle Paul once said, “For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.” Indeed, we live by faith and not by sight!

Does it ever seem to you as though you’re looking at your life through tracing paper, as though all you can see is a basic, dim outline of the image before you? You do believe that God has painted a masterpiece of who you are, but from where you’re standing, all you can see are greyed-out and obscured outlines. Ultimately, the Lord does have your life’s track clearly laid down before you, but until you trace every step by faith, you will not discover the beauty of the image of the masterpiece called you.

God-tracking is tracing the obscured picture of your life by faith.

Don’t Give Up, Look Up & Pray

I make a conscious decision now to take one day at a time and believe that you will help me trace my life’s track by faith and not by sight.”

“O Lord, sometimes I get so frustrated with life because I cannot see the wood for the trees. It seems that all I can see before me are greyed-out borders and obscured details. But now I realise that I have been using my own reason in planning my life instead of simply committing my ways to you and then walking in faith. Dear Lord, I make a conscious decision now to take one day at a time and believe that you will help me trace my life’s track by faith and not by sight. For your glory. Amen.”

Dear God Tracker

God Can See Your Life’s Big Picture

The six teenagers were lying on their backs on the grass gazing up at the Milky Way on a night black canvas of clear sky. Myriad stars blinked and glistened light years above them. “Spectacular, isn’t it?” I said. The mesmerised star gazers made no comment. “Do you know that we are on the edge of our galaxy looking back in at about 200 billion stars spanning a distance of about 100,000 light years? This means that little star’s twinkle over there is tens of thousands of years in the past.” I said pointing to a speck of cosmic glitter far away. “You’re gazing across space and time, beyond your wildest imagination.”

From where these teenagers were lying on the earth’s grass, they could almost see the whole Milky Way galaxy. It was as if they were looking at the whole picture. God views our lives like that. He can see our beginning and our end in one picture. The Lord sees you for who you are and how you are and where you are in space and time. Listen to Revelation 1:8: “’I am the Alpha and the Omega,’ says the Lord God, ‘who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.’" Notice the word “and”. God is, was and is to come all at the same time. In other words, he is outside the bounds of time.

Whatever you’re facing today know that God knows. He knows how you got into that mess and he knows how you will get out of it, with his help. In fact, he’s there already on the other side of that wall meeting your every need. God saw you in the womb and he can see you in the tomb. Just step back and let him guide you by his Word and his Spirit, day by day and year by year. Though the Lord can see the whole picture of your life, he is as close to you as your own breath. If you continue to acknowledge God in all your ways you can trust his course for you. God can see your life’s big picture.

God-tracking is seeing your life through his eyes.

Blessings

Dudley

Verse of the Week

2 Corinthians 4:8
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Quote of the Week

A Sample of Dudley’s Fave Quotes.

“Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” --- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Don’t Give-up, Look-up!

Look-up and Fix Your Eyes On Jesus!

According To Your Foreknowledge of My Life

Romans 8:29
For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son…

Pray
“O my God I know now that you see my beginning from my end. Help me through this difficult time I am going through. You know all there is to know about me and I believe that my times are in your hands. I commit my ways to you and acknowledge you in all I am, all I do and all I know. Help me to rest in your knowledge of my life’s track and help me to follow your purposes every day, by faith. Take care of my loved ones and their futures and take care of my future, O Lord. Design my path and lead me in it according to your foreknowledge of my life. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”
