For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Jesus taught a parable about a man who found a treasure in a field. He was so excited about the prospects of acquiring this treasure that he immediately returned home and set about selling all his possessions to be in a position to buy the field where the treasure lay. He might have owned a great many possessions, perhaps a house, several donkeys or sheep. I could imagine his sense of loss when he sold his beloved faithful horse. But the treasure he found was great, far greater than anything he owned. This treasure was greater than his attachment to material goods. This treasure was precious, worth letting go of his home and valuables to acquire. This man was sold-out for a treasure of great worth.

Jesus likened the kingdom of God to a treasure of great worth, worth every iota of our lives. Like the man in this story, to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness we need to be sold out for Jesus. The kingdom of God is not a physical tangible commodity, it's a domain of glory, goodness, peace and purpose. The kingdom of God is like an eternal bank account, filled with the abundant blessings and provision of the glory of the riches of God in Christ Jesus. It’s a bank account in which you if you are sold-out for Christ, can invest. Jesus said, “store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.”

God-tracking is all about seeking the will of God. Seeking the will of God is seeking the kingdom principles of God. Seeking the will of God is letting go of worldly values and laying up treasures of love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, faithfulness, kindness, gentleness and self-control. Seeking the will of God is being a sold-out believer who invests in heaven.

Eating of the Tree of Life

“Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the Life, bore the consequences of eating of the tree of good and evil, making the way for all who receive him as Lord to eat of the tree of life.”

1 Corinthians 15:22
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive

After God had created the magnificent universe, he made man from the dust of the earth and breathed his life into him. Then he made a woman from man. Together they please the Father of creation, who is love. God placed man in Eden, his splendid garden, and gave him every tree to eat of except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If they ate of this tree their eyes would be opened and they would welcome evil into their race. Another tree that was forbidden them was the tree of life. Initially, they had no need to eat of that tree for they were good and already had life in the Creator. However, if they ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, evil would corrupt their hearts. Then if they ate of the tree of life, evil would endure in the human race for eternity. Sadly, Adam and Eve disobeyed Father Creator and ate of the forbidden tree. So, God separated them from the tree of life, banishing them from Eden.

But God loved them so much that, thousands of years later, he sent his own Son to reconcile them to his life. Jesus Christ is God incarnate. That is, he is God in the flesh – the perfect human. Jesus is good, as Adam was before the fall. Jesus was tempted, as Adam was, but he did not fall. So, Father Creator placed the consequence of Adam’s fall onto his Son. This consequence is death and Jesus died. But, because he hadn’t fallen, as Adam did, death had no authority to hold him down. Three days after being crucified, the Son of God rose from the dead, opening the way to enter Eden once again. Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the Life, bore the consequences of eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, making the way for all who receive him as Lord to eat of the tree of life.

Have you received Jesus as Lord of your life? You and I are descendants of Adam and so guilty of violating God’s instruction not to corrupt our hearts with evil. Sin has taken root in the human race. But Jesus bore the consequences of sin on the cross so that you and I may be forgiven of sin and be reconciled to God’s goodness. Through Jesus, the garden of Eden has been opened again to all who would call on his name and be saved from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

May I encourage you today, if you have not yet done so, to admit your sin to Father Creator, believe that Jesus died and rose again to free you from the contamination of sin, and then confess him as Lord of your life? Come to Jesus now and freely eat of the Tree of Life.

“John Wesley had his compass firmly set, directing him towards the whole Christ as his Saviour, the whole Bible as his book, the whole Church as his fellowship, and the whole world as his mission field. How about you?”

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

John Wesley said, “I want the whole Christ for my Saviour, the whole Bible for my book, the whole Church for my fellowship, and the whole world for my mission field.” What ambition, what purpose. Indeed, he and his brother, Charles realised their goal as today, more than 200 years after John’s death, we are still quoting him. John and Charles were God-trackers. They knew the essence of seeking and tracking the will of God by acknowledging him in every aspect of their lives and work, even in the face of intense opposition.

After their exile to Babylon, the Lord encouraged his people through the prophet Jeremiah telling them that he knows the plans he has for them, to restore them to his peace. The Hebrew word for peace is shalom. Shalom means more than the English word peace. The full meaning of shalom is wholeness, completeness, soundness, health, safety, prosperity and peace. Despite the opposition they faced when they returned to their promised land after the exile, God’s purpose was to restore his people to his shalom.

John Wesley faced many difficulties throughout his ministries. People were unsettled by his zeal and passion and his challenge to the status quo. He was harassed, criticized, and ridiculed by thousands. Yet he persevered in the full knowledge that God knew the plans he had for him, plans for his shalom. With that, he acknowledged God in all his ways and trusted that God would direct his path. John Wesley had his compass firmly set, directing him towards the whole Christ as his Saviour, the whole Bible as his book, the whole Church as his fellowship, and the whole world as his mission field. How about you?

Fear or Faith?

“Don’t allow temporal fear to undermine eternal faith. Know the truth of God’s promises (they are all yes and amen in Jesus) and you will be set free from a spirit of fear.”

2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Five-year-old Johnny was watching his mum make supper. She asked him to go into the pantry an

d get her a can of tomato soup, but he was afraid to go in alone. "It's dark in there and I'm scared," said Johnny. His mother asked again but he persisted. Finally, she said, "It's okay, Jonny, Jesus will be in there with you." Johnny walked cautiously to the door and slowly opened it. Peeking inside he saw it was very, very dark. He was afraid and started to leave when suddenly an idea came to him. "Jesus,” he called, “please would you hand me that can of tomato soup?"

A cute story but fear is a condition that affects us all. Fear, like faith, is anticipatory. Anticipatory anxiety is a condition where a person experiences increased levels of anxiety by thinking about an event or situation in the future and anticipating the worst outcome. Faith, on the other hand, anticipates the best outcome hoped for. Scripture reminds us that faith is the confidence of things hoped for and evidence of things not seen. The sad reality is fear will always undermine faith unless it is dealt with.

Fear has no confidence on the outcome of a situation. Fear always expects the worst results because fear is based on the presupposition of the flesh. The flesh is factual, that is, it views the facts in the present and presupposes the future outcome in the natural. However, fear cannot be certain of the future. Faith, on the other hand, is not fleshly but spiritual. Faith is based upon truth and truth always supersedes fact. The truth is based on God’s Word and God’s word endures forever. Faith views facts from a futuristic perspective based on the promises of God’s word and always expects the best.

Never fear, Jesus is near! Little Johnny believed Jesus was in that pantry and his belief expelled his fear. Your God is already on the other side of the wall of tomorrow. Jesus is there already meeting your needs. He has not given you a spirit of fear but power, love and sound faith. Deal with that fear today. Don’t allow temporal fear to undermine eternal faith. Know the truth of God’s promises (they are all yes and amen in Jesus) and you will be set free from a spirit of fear.

On Top of the World

“If you know Christ as Lord of your life then you are raised up and made to sit in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. What a vantage point.”

For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

The first song I ever learned to play on my first clanky old guitar was the Richard Carpenter song, “On Top of the World” (1972). The song is about new love: young man finds the love of his life and feels like he's living on top of the world. The chorus starts, “I’m on top of the world, looking down on creation.” I might add, I didn’t play it too well but it stuck.

In the natural, elated moments in life are few and far between. Indeed, falling in love can be one of those ecstatic moments. However, for the most part, this life often has more downs than ups. Let’s be honest, for the common person, disappointment and failure can be commonplace. I remember the day I received a phone call from a prospective employer offering me the job of my dreams. I was on top of the world! As it turned out, I enjoyed 7 marvellous years working for this Christian ministry with much success. However, the day came when I was told they were shutting down my department and my position was made redundant. But that’s life – the natural life. However, as Christian believers, we view a higher life than this. We live a life from a heavenly vantage point.

If you know Christ as Lord of your life then you have put to death the old life and are a new creation in Christ. If you know Christ as Lord of your life then the life you live in the flesh you live by faith in God who richly rewards those who seek him. If you know Christ as Lord of your life then you are raised up and made to sit in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. What a vantage point.

So, when your natural life hits a low, remind yourself that you have a seat in heaven. When trials and tribulation whammy your daily walk, count it all joy because you know the testing of your faith produces patience so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. And when those disappointments collide with your dreams, smile and sing, “I’m on top of the world, looking down on creation.”

A Place of Peace and Security

“Renew your mind by his word and you will discern that perfect will of God. Remain in God’s will and you will remain in a place of peace and security, making and an impact on your world.”

Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

This Christian motivational thought is concerned with helping the reader seek and track the will of God. God’s will is always a place of peace and security. If you remain in the centre of God’s will you will impact your world, something that the enemy of our souls, Satan, will do all he can to prevent.

Doreen was a tender child. She loved her mom and dad very much. The family lived on the East End of London during the time of the Second World War. Life was not easy. Sadly, when Doreen was 11-years old, her mom walked out on the family after her dad had an affair. The new woman in her father’s life was abusive and bullied Doreen badly. Gradually her esteem was so stripped away that she found herself lost to the evils of witchcraft. But God had a plan for this little life. Doreen later discovered the love and power of the Lord and gave her life to Jesus. Repenting of her black crafts Doreen discovered the peace and security of following God’s will for her life. Doreen Irvine tells her story in the book From Witchcraft to Christ, a book that has had a great impact on the world.

Psalm 143 is a prayer of another person who was bullied and abused, that of David. As a young man, David was anointed king of Israel. However, King Saul was still on the throne. Saul was not a nice guy and sought to take David’s life. David endured his abuse for many years during which time he wrote many psalms. But God had a plan for this young life, too. David walked in God’s will despite the opposition he faced. Here he found peace and security. When he was downcast, he placed his hope in the Lord. David had a profound impact on the world, becoming the greatest king Israel ever had and the descendent of Messiah.

Perhaps you find yourself in a predicament like Doreen Irvine or King David. It could be that you have also been being bullied or abused. You may have faced countless events in your life where the enemy of your soul, Satan, was intent on dragging you away from God’s will. God’s word for you today is, nothing can ever separate you from his love. His will is for you is to acknowledge him in all your ways. Do this and he will direct your life’s track according to his will. Seek first his kingdom principles and his goodness. Do this and he will provide all you’ll ever need for life and living. Renew your mind by his word and you will discern that perfect will of God. Remain in God’s will and you will remain in a place of peace and security, making and an impact on your world.

The Battle is the Lord’s

“Our God is high and exalted. He is our sovereign Majesty. His character is supreme, his power unlimited and his will, paramount. At the name of Jesus, every knee will bow! The name of the Lord is a strong tower. Run into it be safe.”

I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.

While Jehoshaphat was king of Judah the Moabites and Ammonites waged war against him. This was a vast army intent on annihilating God’s people. Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord and proclaimed a fast for all Judah. The people of Judah came together to seek help from the Lord. God’s word came to Jehoshaphat through the priest and prophet Jahaziel: “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.” After talking with the people, Jehoshaphat called for praise and worship. Together they sang, “Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever.” As they began to praise God, the Lord set ambushes against the enemy and it was defeated.

Your battle is the Lord’s! Listen, “No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you,” and “If God is for us, who can be against us?” The enemies of peace and security will rise. It’s a fact. However, the force behind these forces of man is Satan. The Scriptures tell us that our battle is not against flesh and blood but against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. But we know that Jesus, our champion and commander in chief, personally overcame these authorities at Calvary when he made a public spectacle of them by triumphing over them through the cross. Halleluiah!

So, today, whatever war you’re facing, whatever forces are battling in the world, let us look to Jesus, our victor. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him. Don’t fret when people carry out their wicked schemes. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. Praise and worship God in the face of the onslaught. Our God is high and exalted. He is our sovereign Majesty. His character is supreme, his power unlimited and his will, paramount. At the name of Jesus, every knee will bow! The name of the Lord is a strong tower. Run into it be safe. The battle is not yours, but God’s

I declare the name of Jesus over every circumstance in my life and every conflict I see in the world

“Oh Lord God Almighty I thank you for the Blood of Jesus shed on the cross, by which I have overcome the enemy. I testify to the Lordship of Jesus Christ in my life and my family’s life. I give you praise and worship, O God, for the victory of the cross and I praise you that every battle we face in this world is already won in your truth and righteousness. I confess, NO WEAPON formed against me will succeed! I confess I HAVE POWER OVER ALL the power of Satan, the force behind the forces of this world. I declare the name of Jesus over every circumstance in my life and every conflict I see in the world. The name of the Lord is a strong tower. I run into it and am safe. Amen!”
