“Your source is God’s riches in glory in Christ Jesus. You are his little one and he knows that you need all these things.”

Matthew 6:33
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Just like the ebb and flow of many phenomena in nature, so the economics of humanity ebbs and flows with regularity. We’re all happy when the world markets flow but panic when there is a global economic ebb.

As followers of Jesus Christ, we don’t place our confidence in man’s monetary management. Jesus was a great economist. He addressed the issues of everyday needs by saying things like, “Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on,” adding “your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.” By the Holy Spirit Apostle Paul wrote, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”

Indeed, stock markets are teetering, pension schemes are wobbling and currency markets are fluctuating but our confidence is not in such things. Our confidence is in the Creator. At a time of economic upheaval, don’t give up, look up and set your mind on things above not on earthly things. Lift up your eyes. Your help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.

I encourage you this week, during the global economic crisis, to trust God to continually meet your needs. The world markets are not your source. Your source is God’s glorious riches in Christ Jesus. You are his little one and your Father knows that you need all these things. His promise to you today is, all these things you need for life and living shall be added to you if you first focus on his righteousness and his kingdom principles; his purposes for your life.

God-tracking is having confidence in the economics of Glory.

“O Lord, I panic when I watch the news and see how the world is swaying on the edge of global recession. I admit that I have filled my mind with too much doom and gloom. I’m sorry. I lift up my eyes above the newspapers and TV screen to fix them on Jesus who meets my needs. I seek first your kingdom purposes for my life. I have a bank account in the bank of Glory! “Now is the time. This is the hour of your purpose. Every minute of your life was penned for you in his book of your life before you were born.”

Psalm 139:16
Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in your book, they all were written, the days fashioned for me when as yet there were none of them.

I heard a good sermon about redeeming our time last Sunday. The message was based on Ephesians 5 verse 16, which tells us to redeem the time because the days are evil. The verse is followed by the words, “do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” God-tracking is all about following and remaining in the will of God. Therefore, we need to make the most of our time with godly wisdom because every minute counts in sharing God’s love and his goodness in a wild and perverse generation.

I often look back and wonder what it must have been like to live at various times in history. When was the best time to live – during the days of Jesus, during medieval times, before the First World War or immediately after the Second World War? But then I remember what the scripture says about my times: he knows my sitting down and my rising up; he is acquainted with all my ways; he covered me in my mother’s womb and in his book were written all the days fashioned for me before one of them came to be.

Now is the time. This is the hour of your purpose. Every minute of your life was penned for you in his book of your life before you were born. God knows what he is doing in your life and he is doing it by his grace. Grace is God’s doing. His grace is sufficient to see you through every trial and every upheaval of this generation. Make the most of every moment by sharing his love, seeking his face and praising his name. He who was and who is and who will be is already in your tomorrow, meeting your needs and preparing your way. So, acknowledge God in all your ways, seize the day and have the time of your life!

“Even if you have faced calamity and disappointment, you will yet go on to great heights for Jesus. Trust him as he sends his angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place he has prepared for you.”

Exodus 23:20
‘See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.’

Ann was a talented organist. When she sat down at the keyboard people were mesmerised by her playing. She was the beloved organist who led the worship in her church. Ann was stable in her faith yet unfamiliar with the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Then it happened. God, in his sovereignty, touched a meeting where Ann was leading worship. Folks became whelmed by the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other tongues, as we see happening in the book of Acts. Ann was elated by her experience and wanted everybody in the church to know the same touch from God. Sadly, however, some folks in her church felt otherwise and rejected the move of the Holy Spirit. Ann and her husband were asked to leave the church.

Ann believed God had a plan for her to help usher in a great move of his Spirit in her church and community. Yet now she was spiritually homeless. How could she ever be used of God to draw his people into a deeper walk with their Father? But God had a plan for Ann and her husband. He prepared a place for them. They attended Bible college and then settle in a new church. Today Ann and her husband are pastors in a large Spirit and Word-based church in her hometown. The Lord God had guarded his deposit in their hearts and brought them to the place he had prepared for them.

God has a place prepared for you, too. You may feel as though your dreams have been dashed by circumstance or criticism. But he who was and is and is to come is already in your tomorrow. He knows your beginning from your end. All your days were written in his book of your life before one of them came to be. Even if you have faced calamity and disappointment, you will yet go on to great heights for Jesus. Trust him as he sends his angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place he has prepared for you.

God-tracking is trusting God to prepare your way.

“Dear Lord, thank you so much for the deposit of your Holy Spirit in my heart. Thank you for the plans you have prepared for me, to use me in my church, in my family and in my community. I admit that I have been disappointed by many people in my past and my dreams have seemed to collapse. And yet, O Lord, I know that if I continue to acknowledge you in all my ways you will continue to open divine opportunities for me to be used by you. Thank you that your angels guard me along the way and bring me to the place you have prepared for me. Hallelujah. Amen.”

“Heed the counsel of the Lord your God in your life decisions. Only a fool would bulldoze his way forward without seeking God every step of the way.”

Proverbs 12:15
The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who heeds counsel is wise.

The Scripture makes it plain that the Holy Spirit is our counsellor and helper. Before Jesus was crucified, he promised that he would not leave us alone. He promised that he would yet be with us by the presence of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit empowers us for godly living. The Holy Spirit grants us spiritual gifts that we may draw ever closer to the Father. And the Holy Spirit is our advisor as we seek the plans that God has for us.

Around 1994 Karen and I developed the notion that it was God’s plan for us to move to a new country. We had no idea where that would be but we believed that he was moving us. So, we did as we always do, we acknowledged God and committed the idea to the Holy Spirit for his counsel. We proceeded to knock on doors, as it were, by writing to companies in English-speaking countries. We only received replies from Christian ministries in England. God, in his wisdom and foreknowledge, knew that the only country we had the right to emigrate to, was the UK (both Karen and I have British heritage). We continued to seek the counsel of the Lord as he opened the doors according to his plan for us. In 1996 we moved our family to England.

Prayer and God-seeking are vital to the decision-making process in the believer’s life. The Lord knows all things about all things, including your tomorrow. If you are faced with a new opportunity then make the most of it with the wisdom of acknowledging God and seeking the counsel of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes he will guide you to people who you trust for advice. However, any advice you receive from others needs to line up with the personal leading of the Holy Spirit in your heart. Remember, too, that the Holy Spirit does not work alone. The Holy Spirit’s counsel will always comply with the word of God. Word and Spirit always work together. The Spirit activates the word while the word confirms the actions of the Spirit.

Heed the counsel of the Lord your God in your life decisions. Only a fool would bulldoze his way forward without seeking God every step of the way. Keep your heart pure and your mind stayed on the purposes of God. As you face opposition in your tracking of the will of God, fix your gaze on Jesus. Jesus faced opposition to the will of God in his life and will help you through any opposition you may face. He will guide you; he will counsel you according to the plans he knows he has for you.

“There is healing, there is forgiveness, there is deliverance and there is safety in the name of Jesus. On the day you call, he will answer you and your strength of soul will increase.”

Psalm 138:3
On the day I called, you answered me; my strength of soul you increased.

I once interviewed a lady for my radio show, The Reality, who was severely abused as a child. We’ll call her Jas. Jas was not a Christian, she was of a polytheistic faith and believed in many gods. She escaped her childhood home by running away. Sadly, however, she then became involved with men who were equally abusive to her.

One day, after a major argument, her partner attacked her beating her with his fists until she fell to the ground. He proceeded to hold her down and kneel on her neck until she could no longer breathe. In her frensy, Jas called out to all the gods she knew of, to no effect. Then, remembering the God of the Christians. In her mind, Jas called on the name of Jesus Christ. Instantly the man fell back and released his grip on her.

In the Psalms, we read, “For he delivers the needy when he calls, the poor and him who has no helper.” In Acts and Romans, we read that anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Certainly, these scriptures refer to calling on the name of Jesus for salvation from sin and death. We have the promise of eternal life if we call on Christ and surrender our lives to him. However, I believe that we can take that word literally in everyday life, too, calling on the name of Jesus for salvation in the here and now.

Like Jas, if you find yourself in an adverse situation today, physically, emotionally or spiritually, call on the name of Jesus. His name is above every name. At the name of Jesus, every knee will bow. There is healing in the name of Jesus. There is forgiveness in the name of Jesus. There is deliverance and there is safety in the name of Jesus. On the day you call, he will surely answer you and your strength of soul will increase.
