“There is healing, there is forgiveness, there is deliverance and there is safety in the name of Jesus. On the day you call, he will answer you and your strength of soul will increase.”

Psalm 138:3
On the day I called, you answered me; my strength of soul you increased.

I once interviewed a lady for my radio show, The Reality, who was severely abused as a child. We’ll call her Jas. Jas was not a Christian, she was of a polytheistic faith and believed in many gods. She escaped her childhood home by running away. Sadly, however, she then became involved with men who were equally abusive to her.

One day, after a major argument, her partner attacked her beating her with his fists until she fell to the ground. He proceeded to hold her down and kneel on her neck until she could no longer breathe. In her frensy, Jas called out to all the gods she knew of, to no effect. Then, remembering the God of the Christians. In her mind, Jas called on the name of Jesus Christ. Instantly the man fell back and released his grip on her.

In the Psalms, we read, “For he delivers the needy when he calls, the poor and him who has no helper.” In Acts and Romans, we read that anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Certainly, these scriptures refer to calling on the name of Jesus for salvation from sin and death. We have the promise of eternal life if we call on Christ and surrender our lives to him. However, I believe that we can take that word literally in everyday life, too, calling on the name of Jesus for salvation in the here and now.

Like Jas, if you find yourself in an adverse situation today, physically, emotionally or spiritually, call on the name of Jesus. His name is above every name. At the name of Jesus, every knee will bow. There is healing in the name of Jesus. There is forgiveness in the name of Jesus. There is deliverance and there is safety in the name of Jesus. On the day you call, he will surely answer you and your strength of soul will increase.

“I believe, if I call on the name of Jesus, I will be saved.”

“I call on the name of Jesus Christ now! Heavenly Father, thank you for sending Jesus to redeem me from sin and set me free from its contamination in my life. In my difficulty, I now call on that name above all names. Save me, Lord! Deliver me from these adverse circumstances. I believe, if I call on the name of Jesus, I will be saved. Amen!”

“God’s grace is yours. He is with you in your predicament. Your Lord is faithful and will meet all your needs and restore your soul. Stand firm on Christ, your Rock.”

Psalm 23:3
He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Janet was married to a very abusive man. She had three boys, who she loved very much but their father was a violent alcoholic who would regularly beat Janet and her children. He was unemployed which meant that Janet needed to work long hours to keep the family together. Sadly, one day she was called into her manager’s office and informed that the department she worked for was closing. Janet lost her only means of security, provision and escape. Living in a country with no social service all the family’s funds soon ran out. With no means of support, her husband walked out on her. Janet was, destitute, deserted and depressed with three young children to feed. Yet, Janet knew Christ.

Soon Janet lost her home and almost all her possessions. She moved to a small one-roomed shack in a new town. Their living conditions were appalling; no running water, no sewerage, no electricity and barely one mattress for all four of them to sleep on. And yet Janet never took her eyes of her Lord. She walked miles on Sundays to attend church. She regularly read her Bible and continued to spend time in prayer and praise. Janet had reached rock bottom. All that she had left was the Rock on which she stood.

Gradually, as Janet maintained her faith and her trust in her Rock, Jesus Christ, she began to sense a deep inner strength that rescued her. That strength was the hope that God would restore her. Like Job of the Bible, Janet knew that there was only one hope, one source to her restoration. That source was the Lord her God. Janet prayed, “O Lord, my Lord, I know that my life and the lives of my children are in your hands. You are our only hope and I know that you will never desert us. You alone are the Restorer of my soul.”

Whatever you are facing today please believe me when I say that you can never out manoeuvre the grace of God. Even the great man, Paul suffered trials and difficulties. He discovered that the grace of God was his sufficiency and, in his weakness, he found the strength of God manifest. God’s grace is yours. He is with you in your predicament. Your Lord is faithful and will meet all your needs and restore your soul. Stand firm on Christ, your Rock.

I’m happy to report that Janet found a new well-paid job and was able to move her family to better accommodation. Soon she was able to provide more for her boys than ever before. When she had passed through the valley of death her Rock restored her soul.

God-tracking is never taking your eyes of the Restorer of your soul.

You are my Rock and my foundation

“Dear Lord, I feel so forlorn and deserted today. I have run out of all my natural resources. I need you to meet my needs. I take my eyes off my dilemma and choose to not give up but look up and fix my gaze on the Restorer of my soul. Thank you that you are always with me in every predicament in life. You are my Rock and my foundation. I praise you now for meeting my needs and delivering me from this plight. In the name of Jesus, amen.

GOD-TRACKING IS CALLING ON THE NAME OF JESUS!

Romans 10:13
For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Tammy paused as her eyes moistened. Then she continued, “My father would enter my room late at night when the rest of the house was in darkness. Night after night he came.” She drew a deep breath through a sob. Tammy was telling her story of how, from a young age, she was abused by her father. Her mother was an alcoholic and offered no support. At the age of 17 Tammy left home. At a party one night she was introduced to drugs. “For the first time in my life I felt free of the pain. When I was high, I remembered nothing but when I came down again, the depression was overbearing,” she said. Sadly, Tammy became addicted to heroin and contracted Hepatitis B from contaminated needles. Not yet 22, Tammy had no reason to live. Fear, depression, depravity and disease consumed her.

One night, Tammy was planning to take her own life, but she was away from home. Needing a ride back, she’d called her mother. As they drove back to her one-room apartment, an old song was playing on a Christian station on the radio: Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in his wonderful face, and the things of the earth will grow strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace. Tammy now sat, sobbing, on the edge of the bath. She held the grey 9 mill in her hand. But, those words burned within with more intensity than its hot bullet ever could: the things of the earth will grow strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace. “Dear Jesus, help me!” she cried.

A true story I once heard, told by a lovely lady called, Tammy. The grace of God and the love of Christ had won the day, that day when Tammy called on the name of Jesus. She had put the gun down and cried out to the Lord she had learned about in Sunday School. Gradually peace filled her heart and miraculously she was delivered from heroin addiction. God did such a great work in Tammy that she was even healed of Hepatitis B; doctors could find no trace of the virus in her body. Today, Tammy shares the love of Jesus everywhere she goes. She says, “Only one person can change your life, and that’s Jesus.”

The Scriptures tell us, there is no other name by which we can be saved; saved from fear, depression, depravity and disease. It tells us that the name of Jesus Christ is greater than any other name in heaven, on earth or under the earth. Whatever your calamity, whatever your history, whatever your fear, depression, depravity or disease, call on that name, today.

DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY

I believe now that there is salvation in no other name. So, come into my life, Lord Jesus.

“Dear God, I call on the name of Jesus Christ, now! Help me, Lord, through this chaos in my life. I believe now that the name of Jesus Christ is greater than anything I could ever face. I believe now that there is healing and restoration in that name. I believe now that there is salvation in that name. So, come into my life, Lord Jesus. I am sorry for all my sin and I now completely surrender my life to you. I believe that Jesus died and rose again and I now confess him as Lord of my life. Amen.”

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS CALLING ON THE NAME OF JESUS!

Psalm 72:12
For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help.

“He bashed my head against the wall and beat me until I passed out,” said Raj as she related her life story with me in a radio interview. “All because I was prevented from going through with an arranged marriage he had planned for me.” Raj had grown up under intense physical and emotional abuse. She had been repeatedly raped since a very early age. Her parents were not Christians but they were very spiritual people, however, the spirits they worship were not of God. One day, in her mother’s prayer room, Raj called on god for help – any god. To her surprise, her prayers were answered. Not until many years later, after being introduced to Jesus, did Raj realise that it was the only True God who had answered her childhood prayer.

“In my mind, I tried calling on all the names of all the gods and gurus I knew, but he continued to strangle me,” said Raj describing how she had been attacked by a man who she had developed a relationship with after fleeing her home at 18. “Then from deep down I remembered the Christian God. I called, ‘Jesus!’ and instantly he released his grip,” she said. “I was stunned. Sadly though, I didn’t give my life to Jesus at that time. My life was still in a mess. I just wanted to die. One day I tried to commit suicide but God prevented me from succeeding. It was then that I realised, Jesus was the only true God. He’d saved my life – more than once. He healed my pain and restored my hope,” said Raj. “I gave him me.”

Raj Holness had had no education about Jesus Christ or the God of Abraham. Her parents were polytheists, yet when she had called out in total despair the Lord our God had answered her. God is no respecter of persons; he doesn’t only hear the cries of Christians. (In fact, if God only listened to Christian believers, I would not be writing these words to you today.) He is caring, impartial and deeply gracious, and saves all who call on is name.

Dear friend, as you read this you, may be able to relate to Raj’s story. You may be suffering rejection or find yourself under emotional attack. Let me encourage you to call on the name of Jesus, in faith. On the other hand, you may not be under such intense abuse, yet may be feeling low and dejected, today. It could be you simply need a new lease on life – a fresh breath of life. God’s Word tells us that faith pleases God and he rewards those who earnestly seek him. So, if you’re weary and burdened, come to him in faith now and he will give your soul rest.

God-tracking is calling on the name of Jesus!

God bless you

Dudley

Don’t Give Up, Look Up!

Dear Lord, in faith, I give you me
Pray
“Dear loving God, I need your help. My life is in a mess. I have been abused and offended many times in the past. I feel dejected and let down. I call on your name, Lord Jesus, save me now! I come to you under this burden, give me rest, O Lord. Take away my pain and give me a fresh breath of life. For my part, I repent of any wrong I have done and I choose to forgive my offenders as you taught me to pray, ‘forgive me my transgressions as I forgive those who transgress against me.’ Dear Lord, in faith, I give you me. Amen.”
