Dear God Tracker
Every Day with Jesus Is Sweeter Than the Day Before
What makes the 1st January special? Why do we wait up all night on the 31st December just to watch a clock tick toward midnight and then let off ear-shattering fireworks to usher in the New Year? Why do we put ourselves through the stress of partying and eating and celebrating just to see Big Ben strike 12am? As the American columnist and author Bill Vaughan once said, “Youth is when you're allowed to stay up late on New Year's Eve. Middle age is when you're forced to.”
But we do. Every one of us has an intrinsic desire for the new. We all hope that next year will be happier and more prosperous than the last. It could be that you have had a particularly bad year and, for you, striking in the New Year with Big Ben is like turning over a new page in the book of life. Bill Vaughan also said, “An optimist stays up until midnight to see the New Year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves.”
But surely the 1st January is just another day? The sun will rise and set and life goes on. So as God Trackers therefore, I believe that we need not celebrate New Year as a special day; we need to celebrate everyday as a special day. If I am tracking God’s plans and purposes for my life then I should be focussed on reaching that every-day-goal of living for his purposes. Each morning when I open my eyes is a new year with new prospects. Each day, at daybreak, I should celebrate God’s plans for my life. Listen: “In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation,” (Psalm 5:3) and “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul,” (Psalm 143:8).
Why not make every day New Year’s Day from now on and celebrate each day tracking God’s plans and purposes for your life? Why not seriously seek the Lord and wait on him from the time you open your eyes in the morning? Find ways of de-cluttering your life so that you can spend more quality time in each day with friends and family. And why not become a “habitual praiser”, turning every situation into a praise offering to your Lord? As the old song that says, “Every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before.”
God-tracking is living for the day.
