The word of God is fulfilling and able to restore you when you’re empty. And the word of God is like a soothing ointment for your bruised soul.”

Proverbs 30:5
Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

“I feel so spiritually dry at the moment,” Anne explained to me when I rang her one evening to have a chat. “It’s as though God is far away and doesn’t hear my prayers anymore,” she added. Anne was a good friend and had been a Christian for many years but, although she loved the Lord, she was prone to bouts of depression, which would leave her feeling low and dry. I might add, too that I had not seen Anne in church for the past few weeks. I knew she’d not been away from home and yet she’d chosen to stay away from fellowship at a time when she needed to be sitting under the sound of God’s word.

Going to church does not make anybody a Christian just as sitting in a bank would not make someone a banker. And yet, the Church is made up of people who are called the body of Christ. When the body of Christ meets to worship God, it becomes the temple of the Holy Spirit with each believer’s body a living stone in God’s temple. To be a Christian is to be a body part of Christ but meeting with other Christians is to be part of the body of Christ. And where the believers come together in unity, God commands his blessing! So for Anne, not coming to church only kept her out of the blessing of God and away from her place of healing.

Perhaps you feel a little like Anne today. If you do then may I encourage you to remain in a place of healing where you will hear God’s word? The word of God is encouraging and able to lift you when you’re down. The word of God is fulfilling and able to restore you when you’re empty. And the word of God is like a soothing ointment for your bruised soul. So not going to church when you’re feeling depressed or disillusioned is like not going to a hospital when you’re gravely ill.

A Place Where I Can Leap Like a Calf

“Lord, I admit that I’m feeling down today. I confess that I’ve taken myself out from under the sound of your word. I do believe that my healing is in your word so I choose to return to fellowship and prayer. Forgive me for ignoring your word, O Lord. Today I return to you and revere your name. You are my ‘sun of righteousness’ and I place myself under the shadow of your healing wings. Thank you for restoring my joy and my peace. Thank you that your word has returned me to a place where I can leap like a calf. Amen.”

Dear God Tracker

Walk Again with Him in the Cool of the Day

God-tracking involves tracking and remaining on-track with the plans that God has for our lives. The scripture tells us that he knows the plans he has for us; plans to prosper us and give us hope for the future. However, it is God who knows these plans – not us. Therefore we need to look for and track his plans as he reveals them to us day by day and moment by moment.

One of the plans that I have discovered that God has for us all is to fellowship with us. Jesus once said, “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends,” (John 15:13). Then immediately went on to say, “You are my friends if you do what I command,” (John 15:14). This blows my mind: God promises to be my friend! There is a condition to this promise, however, and that is to do what he commands. Following our God’s plans most definitely requires filling our hearts and minds with his word and living by it.

In the Garden of Eden we see how God creates man in his own image. He made us perfect and good, as he is. We notice that man and God had a very deep relationship in the Garden. They walked together in the cool of the day. But God had issued Adam and Eve with a command to not eat of a certain tree, or they would die. Sadly, we read that the devil tempts them and they both fall by disobeying God’s word. At that dreadful moment sin and decay entered mankind and the world at large. Man had stepped out of fellowship with God.

Getting back to the words of Jesus, I notice that God still desires my friendship. In fact, it was by his own initiative that God drew me back into relationship with himself through Jesus when he died and rose again. God made him who had no sin, to be sin for me so that, in him, I might become God’s righteousness. In other words, because of Jesus’ sacrifice both you and I are once again reconciled to God’s perfect image so we can walk again with him in the cool of the day.

God-tracking is remaining true friends with God.

Bless ya

Dudley

Verse of the Week

Hebrews 4:11
Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience.

Quote of the Week

A Sample of Dudley’s Fave Quotes.

“The question we must ask our heart is, "Am I comfortable under the eye of God? Or is God getting too close?" We are strange and lovely creatures. We can ache for God tremendously yet find ourselves getting nervous if God gets too close. After all, the closer God gets, the more we hear the call to be divinized. It is both exciting and frightening to hear that call.” --- MacRina Wiederkehr

Don’t Give-up, Look-up!

Look-up and Fix Your Eyes On Jesus!

I May Enjoy the Hope of Walking with You in the Cool of the Day

Colossians 1:22-23
But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation-- if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel.

Pray
“Oh my God and my king; my Father and my friend, thank you so much for reconciling me to yourself through Jesus. Thank you Jesus for your obedience in that you went to the cross for me. I am sorry for all my sin, O Lord, and welcome your word into my life. I choose now to live for you moment by moment and to seek your will for my life by your word. Help me to continue in my faith that I may enjoy the hope of walking with you in the cool of the day. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”
