Step into that river in faith that the Lord will part its waters for you, so you can possess that land called Promise.”

Joshua 1:9“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Books by Dudley Anderson
I could imagine Joshua standing on the east bank of the Jordan River, gazing across its flooding waters at the land called Promise. Perhaps Caleb stood beside him. “What was it that Moses said, Caleb… ‘you shall go with this people into the land that the Lord has sworn to their fathers, and you shall put them in possession of it’? But why me?”

“Because you are young and you are a man of faith,” replied Caleb. “Remember, forty years ago, when we came back from spying out the land with the other 10 spies? They were all quaking in their boots, but you and I believed we could take this land. We had faith then. Have faith now, my friend. I am too old to lead these people. God has chosen you. So, ‘Be strong and courageous. The Lord goes before you. He will not leave you or forsake you.’ These were God’s words through Moses. Hold on to them in faith, and step across this river. Unless you take that step, all Israel will remain in the wilderness.”

Dear GodTracker, you may be waiting for God to bring something new your way.  Often, he does graciously drop opportunities into our laps, but most times, like with Joshua, he tells us to step out in faith and trust him to come through for us. There could be a prospect of new land facing you right now and you’re wondering what to do about it. Well, what has the Lord said to you about this new opportunity? Do you believe it’s from him? If so, then go get it! Faith pleases God and he rewards those who live by faith. God does not respond to our wishes or dreams; he responds to active faith. Step into that river in faith that the Lord will part its waters for you, so you can possess that land called Promise.

So Joshua instructed the officers of the people, “Pass through the camp and command the people, ‘Prepare your provisions, for within three days you are to pass over this Jordan to go in to take possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving you to possess.’”

SO, DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY

Make provision for all I’ll need to possess this opportunity and make the most of it

“Dear Lord, I believe I am faced with a great opportunity. I believe you have presented me with this prospect therefore, I believe you will make a way across this river for me to possess your promises. Help me to step out in faith. Give me wisdom and instruction that I may know what your will is for me. Prepare me for the unknown (Lord with you, all things are known). Make provision for all I’ll need to possess this opportunity and make the most of it. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.”

GOD-TRACKING IS NATURALLY RISKY BUT SUPERNATURALLY REWARDING

GodTracker 715
The e-devotional helping to keep you on track with God’s plans for your life. GodTracker is published at http://godtracker.co.uk

“We need to be prepared to move on what God is saying to us, which is often a very risky business. However, risk requires faith and faith pleases God.”

James 1:22
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves

Amy Grant once sang a song entitled, “Fat, Fat Baby.” The song describes a person who accepts Christ as Lord and avidly ventures out into the world of Christendom. He fills his ears with gospel music and Christian teaching. He begins to go to a church and attends all its functions and social events. This person gorges himself on everything Christian but somehow misses the importance of serving Christ. He grows fatter and fatter on God-stuff and learns to speak “Christianese” like an expert. He is a hearer of the word but falls gravely short on being a doer of the word. James says, “Do not merely listen to the word, do what it says.”

Don’t get me wrong, gorging on God’s word is very, very good but we need to practically apply the word of God in every aspect of life in order to move with God’s purposes. We need to be prepared to move on what God is saying to us, which is often a very risky business. However, risk requires faith and faith pleases God.

In 1990 God called me to leave my job and step out in faith to serve him. This led to one of the toughest periods of my life. I knew God’s word promised God’s provision. I had heard many testimonies of people who had stepped out in faith and how God had
met their needs. I had sat under many sermons teaching me that God is faithful, and he will never desert me on the road to following his call. Yet, all this teaching and a hearing of God’s word would have led to naught, unless I stuck my neck out to take God at his word. It was only when I began to do what God was telling me to do, that I discovered his faithful provision and care. It was only when I began to do what God was telling me to do, that my faith in him began to grow.

Indeed, gorge yourself on the word of God and fill your life with a Godly style of living but never get so comfortable hearing God’s word that you fail to do what it says. It’s only in the doing that you will walk in faith, and it’s only by walking in faith that you will enjoy the rewards of God.

God-tracking is naturally risky but supernaturally rewarding

DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY

I dedicate my life to obediently following your call, no matter what the apparent risk

““Dear God, I admit that I am very nervous about taking this next step of faith. In the natural it seems so risky, but I know that with you all things are possible. So, help me to trust your foreknowledge of my life and to walk by faith in your calling, O Lord. Help me to be willing to stick my neck out when you call me to do so. Help me to always keep my eyes on you. I commit my future to you. I dedicate my life to obediently following your call, no matter what the apparent risk. In faith, I come to you and seek your plans and purposes. Help me to always “do” your word and not just “hear” your word. I pray have faith that you will reward my faith, O Lord. Amen.”
