“If you find yourself at a standstill today then join me in taking the next exit from that backed-up highway you find yourself on and put your foot down to keep moving on your life’s journey.”

Luke 9:62
Jesus replied, "No one who puts his hand to the plough and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God."

Some time back Karen and I decided to take a short break. We made plans to spend four days in a national park a short distance from our home. We set out early so that we could stop off at places of interest along the way but no sooner had we encountered the motorway than we found ourselves in bumper-to-bumper traffic! The M6 motorway in the British West Midlands can be like a car park at the best of times, and this day was no exception. In fact at one time, we stopped for so long that the drivers around me turned off their car’s engines. We’d come to a total standstill.  You see, in order to make our journey on holiday, we needed to keep moving.

You know, so many of us set off on the road to God’s purposes with gusto but soon run out of steam and end up marooned along life’s highway. Take the young woman who surrendered her life to Jesus at the Billy Graham campaign, for example. She’d heard the gospel and put her faith in Jesus under the passion of the moment in the big top, but as soon as she hit the streets of the big city she drifted to a total spiritual standstill. And what about the middle-aged man who had heard the prompting of the Holy Spirit to lay his career down in order go into the pastorate. Sadly, he had wasted so much time thinking  about it that he’d come to total a dead stop in his faith-walk. You see, in order to make your journey along God’s life track you need to keep moving.

Perhaps you find yourself at a spiritual standstill today. It could be that you were once passionate about serving Christ but the flame of zeal that set you ablaze has flickered and all but died out. Maybe you heard the call of God on your life several years back but the weeds of doubt and fear have grown up and are now choking the life out of God’s promises to you. Or it could be that, like so many of us, you have simply become complacent in your faith walk and found that you’re gaining no new ground. If you find yourself at a standstill today then join me in taking the next exit from that backed-up highway you find yourself on and put your foot down to keep moving on your life’s journey.

God-tracking is to keep moving with God on your journey of life.

“I want to get going and keep moving on this journey you have set before me.”

“Dear God, I realise today that I have been procrastinating in my Christian walk. I know I’ve heard your call on my life but I’ve wasted too much time thinking about it instead of stepping out in faith to keep moving on the journey you have set before me. I’m sorry Lord. Today I re-commit my life to you and passionately seek to take your route for my future. I praise you for your love and your grace; grace that saves me and grace that equips me. I want to get going and keep moving on this journey you have set before me. I love you Lord. Amen.”

GOD-TRACKING IS TREKKING WITH FAITH IN THE PLANS GOD KNOWS HE HAS FOR YOU

The e-devotional helping to keep you on track with God’s plans for your life. GodTracker is published at http://godtracker.co.uk

“Place your unconditional trust squarely in the hands of your Guide and his Map and then have faith that the plans he knows he has for you, will succeed.”

Matthew 28:20
“… And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

I remember trekking a short distance across a desert with my wife, Karen on a trip to Jordan. Our tour bus had parked up at a carpark and we were required to walk the rest of the way to a desolate desert spot, chosen by our guide, to reveal what the Negev desert was really like. After walking a few minutes, we lost sight of the bus and our destination was yet unseen. Everything looked the same. From where I stood, I had 360 degrees of opportunity. The journey was tedious, uneventful and seemingly void of progress. If it weren’t for our guide and the map his hand, I fear we’d be lost in the wilderness. I had placed my trust in his hands. I needed to have faith in him as our guide, the map in his hand. And I needed to have faith in his plan to deliver us safely to our destination.

Sometimes, trekking the plans of God can lead us through a seemingly desolate wilderness: the end of an era or the start of a new career; a move away from familiar friends or social environment; an unexpected change in ministry or church life. When this happens, we lose perspective; we lose sight of the old familiar pathways whilst still out of sight of the ultimate endpoint. The truth is, once we have seen the fulfilment of one goal, we need to be prepared to leave it behind and follow our Guide and his Map until we arrive at the new yet unseen destination.

Acknowledge the Lord in all your ways and he will direct your life's track. First, look for his purposes and principles and then believe that he will add all the resources you'll ever need to achieve your goals. Place your unconditional trust squarely in the hands of your Guide and his Map and then have faith that plans he knows he has for you, will succeed.

I have faith in your plans, even though I can’t see the goal from where I stand today.

“Dear Lord, I feel like I’m in a wilderness. There has been so much change in my life that I feel I’ve lost my way. Yet, I believe your hand is on me. I believe that these changes in my life are of you, so I commit my future to you. Help me to aim for your plans, though I can’t yet see the target. I truly acknowledge you in my work, my home life, my ministry, my relationships, my finances and my ambitions. I seek first your purposes and acknowledge you in every part of this journey. O Lord, I place my total confidence in the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the map of your word. I have faith in your plans, even though I can’t see the goal from where I stand today. Amen.”

GOD-TRACKING IS STICKING WITH THOSE ANCIENT PATHS

God-tracking is sticking with those ancient paths

 Psalm 25:4
Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths

We are very privileged to have a good road infrastructure in the UK. Though often congested, our motorways are well maintained and well planned. Even our “A” and “B” roads are secure and easily accessible. However, it was not always like this. In ancient times there were no 3-lane motorways. In fact, there were no tarred roads at all. Like anywhere in the world, people could only travel from village to village and town to town using well-trodden dirt roads. These roads became known as the ancient trade routes and were frequently used by people on foot, horseback and in carriages. In the Bible lands, camel caravans were made up of many groups of traders and families travelling together between main centres, using ancient paths. These travellers were relatively safe provided they remained on these ancient trade routes. If they approached a crossroad they might stop and ask one another, “Where is the ancient path that we may travel along it in peace.” To deviate from these paths and take a bypass would almost certainly spell disaster for any traveller.

The prophet, Jeremiah addressed his people at the verge of national disaster, when they stood at the crossroads of history. He said, “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” Later he said, “Yet my people have forgotten me; they burn incense to worthless idols, which made them stumble in their ways and in the ancient paths. They made them walk in bypaths and on roads not built up.”

Sadly, we live in a very similar society today. Twenty-first century Christians are standing at the crossroads of the choice between God’s ancient way or the compromising way of postmodern humanism. The danger is, they will set foot on the side road that will take them off God’s good ancient path into disaster.

Dear God Tracker, are you facing a choice in life? Are you on the verge of wondering off the well-trodden ways of God’s word and the fellowship of his Holy Spirit, looking for alternative ways of following Jesus? Just as in Bible times, many of the modern alleyways and side roads of our cities are very dangerous and insecure. Likewise, wondering off the ancient paths of a Bible based morality and doctrine is gravely dangerous. Only the Lord knows your paths ahead. Only by fellowshipping with Holy Spirit and remaining true to the uncompromising Word of God will you and I easily trod those ancient paths of godly purpose, so walking safely into the future where we’ll find rest for our souls.

Only what matters to you, matters to me

Lord, I need your rest. I have been travelling this road for too long without asking where the ancient paths are. I’m sorry if I have missed your way and taken a side road, O Lord. I want to come with you, on your pathways, to a quiet place where I may find rest for my soul. Help me to track your will; help me to never turn aside and follow my own plans. Only what matters to you, matters to me. I love you Lord. Amen.”
