“If you find yourself at a standstill today then join me in taking the next exit from that backed-up highway you find yourself on and put your foot down to keep moving on your life’s journey.”

Luke 9:62
Jesus replied, "No one who puts his hand to the plough and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God."

Some time back Karen and I decided to take a short break. We made plans to spend four days in a national park a short distance from our home. We set out early so that we could stop off at places of interest along the way but no sooner had we encountered the motorway than we found ourselves in bumper-to-bumper traffic! The M6 motorway in the British West Midlands can be like a car park at the best of times, and this day was no exception. In fact at one time, we stopped for so long that the drivers around me turned off their car’s engines. We’d come to a total standstill.  You see, in order to make our journey on holiday, we needed to keep moving.

You know, so many of us set off on the road to God’s purposes with gusto but soon run out of steam and end up marooned along life’s highway. Take the young woman who surrendered her life to Jesus at the Billy Graham campaign, for example. She’d heard the gospel and put her faith in Jesus under the passion of the moment in the big top, but as soon as she hit the streets of the big city she drifted to a total spiritual standstill. And what about the middle-aged man who had heard the prompting of the Holy Spirit to lay his career down in order go into the pastorate. Sadly, he had wasted so much time thinking  about it that he’d come to total a dead stop in his faith-walk. You see, in order to make your journey along God’s life track you need to keep moving.

Perhaps you find yourself at a spiritual standstill today. It could be that you were once passionate about serving Christ but the flame of zeal that set you ablaze has flickered and all but died out. Maybe you heard the call of God on your life several years back but the weeds of doubt and fear have grown up and are now choking the life out of God’s promises to you. Or it could be that, like so many of us, you have simply become complacent in your faith walk and found that you’re gaining no new ground. If you find yourself at a standstill today then join me in taking the next exit from that backed-up highway you find yourself on and put your foot down to keep moving on your life’s journey.

God-tracking is to keep moving with God on your journey of life.

“I want to get going and keep moving on this journey you have set before me.”

“Dear God, I realise today that I have been procrastinating in my Christian walk. I know I’ve heard your call on my life but I’ve wasted too much time thinking about it instead of stepping out in faith to keep moving on the journey you have set before me. I’m sorry Lord. Today I re-commit my life to you and passionately seek to take your route for my future. I praise you for your love and your grace; grace that saves me and grace that equips me. I want to get going and keep moving on this journey you have set before me. I love you Lord. Amen.”

GOD-TRACKING IS TRUSTING GOD’S PLAN

“This is where trust comes in. Despite the stress, despite the burnouts, we can be sure that if we continue to acknowledge God in all – yes, all – our ways, then wherever we find ourselves in life will be precisely where God wants us to be.”

Ephesians 1:11In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will

Books by Dudley Anderson
My mind was numb, as I walked home from the business meeting. For the past one and a half hours, I’d sat around a table with three colleagues discussing the future of our work. Through the haze of pressing issues, I vaguely remember us reviewing our vision and projects. However, somehow, it was as if I wasn’t there. I heard a voice discussing our plans. It sounded like my voice, but it seemed I was listening in from the other room. When I opened the front door and entered my home Karen knew instantly that there was something wrong. I was on the verge of burnout.

I always teach that God has a plan for our lives. The scripture makes that plain. In Jeremiah, we read, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord.” And in Ephesians, we read that God’s purpose was for us to know the mystery of his grace, through Christ that we might fulfil our destinies. And in Romans: “All things work together for good for those who are called according to his purpose.” I likewise teach that if we acknowledge God in all our ways, he will direct our paths in life. All this amounts to the main concept of what I call, God-tracking.

Yet, God never promised that tracking his plans would always be easy. For as much as God has a plan for your life so does the enemy of God’s plans, Satan. Satan’s plan is always to derail you from the track of God’s plans for your life. Thankfully, Jesus said, “In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” Stress, criticism, loss, illness, anxiety and more are sure to rise up in your life, as you seek to stay on track with the plans and purposes of God.

This is where trust comes in. Despite the stress, despite the burnouts, we can be sure that if we continue to acknowledge God in all – yes, all – our ways, then wherever we find ourselves in life will be precisely where God wants us to be. So, be strong and courageous, he will never leave your side. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, who endured great stress, looking through the cross to see himself victorious on the other side. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and don’t lean on your own understanding.

Safe to say, though my circumstances have changed since that formidable business meeting a year ago, God’s plans have prevailed in my life. His plans are for our welfare and not evil, to give us a future and a hope.

You are the uplifter of my soul! Today I place my trust squarely in the plans you know you have for me

“Dear Lord, I don’t know if I can face another day. I feel so empty – so burned out. Loss has overcome me; stress is overwhelming me, and the criticisms are overbearing. Forgive me for taking my eyes off Jesus during this trial. Dear Lord, I consciously acknowledge you again in prayer and commit every part of my life to you. I trust you emphatically and believe you are with me in this thicket. Help me through this, O Lord. Be my strength, my hope and my peace. You are the uplifter of my soul!  “This calls for walking by faith and not by sight. You see, it’s not a fatalistic view on life, it’s a faith-realistic view on life… And that’s what God-tracking is all about.”

Proverbs 3:6In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

This email devotional is built on the premise that God has a plan and a purpose for every Christian believer. The scriptures are packed with words that confirm this fact. Listen:
  • And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28).
  • I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfils his purpose for me (Psalm 57:2).
  • The Lord will fulfil his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures for ever. Do not forsake the work of your hands (Psalm 138:8).
  • In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved (Ephesians 1:4-6).
  • …who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began (2 Timothy 1:9).
The central theme verse on which this devotional is based is taken from Jeremiah, which reads, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” However, I would like to point out that it is indeed, God who knows the plans he has for us, but we don’t; not until he reveals his plans to us, that is. Therefore, we need to faithfully seek and track God’s plans and purposes throughout our lives. Hence the term, God-tracking.

In 1997 I had an experience in which God revealed to me that his purposes will always hold true in my life, provided I continue to remain on track with his plans. His plans may often take me to places I would never have dreamt were meant for me, but God showed me that, provided I acknowledge him in all my ways and keep my eyes fixed on Jesus, he would always direct my life’s track. This calls for walking by faith and not by sight. You see, it’s not a fatalistic view on life, it’s a faith-realistic view on life. It’s not saying, “What will be will be,” but rather, “His will be done!”

If you live this way, you will always find yourself walking squarely in the middle of God’s will for your life, including through the most challenging places. Acknowledging God in every area of life will cause you to always make the right choices. And even if you happen to make a wrong choice, because you’ve acknowledged God, he will nevertheless, direct your path.

And that’s what God-tracking is all about.

God-tracking is knowing you’re in the right place.

Therefore, I step out in faith and declare that, at this moment that I believe I am precisely where you want me to be in life

“Dear Father God, I acknowledge you in every part of my life: in my work, in my play, in my church, in my finances, in my relationships, in my ambitions, in my hopes, in my desires, in my failures, in my successes and in the very place of life I find myself in today. And I choose to fix my eyes on Jesus, my example of a life of faith. I know you have a wonderful plan for me. I know you have a wonderful future for me, filled with hope and success. Therefore, I step out in faith and declare that, at this moment that I believe I am precisely where you want me to be in life, and I will track your plans and purposes every step of the way. Amen.”

GOD-TRACKING IS LEANING ON GOD IN CONFLICT WITH HUMBLE INTEGRITY

Psalm 25:12
Who is the man who fears the Lord?
Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose.

GodTracker is designed to help us seek and track the plans of God for our lives. If the Scripture says that God knows the plans he has for our futures – plans for wellbeing filled with hope – then we can be sure that he will work out all things according to his plans, and for our good. However, I can only be sure of this fact if I include God in every part of my life. As the Amplified Bible puts it to recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.

Psalm 25 has become a great source of encouragement and perspective for me as I seek to track God’s will. King David pens this Psalm under God’s anointing. He begins by affirming his trust in God, whatever life throws at him or whomever opposes him with false accusations. Then, reaffirming God’s goodness, David confesses and repents of sin. Very important! I think this is the characteristic in David that God loved the most – humility! And then the psalmist extols the excellence of putting God first in all his ways. In every conflict, in spite of his opponents and critics (and David was intensely criticised), the king praises God and acknowledges that God is always in control. He then submits to God’s will with fear and worship. Standing in integrity, King David puts is hope squarely in the purposes of God. Please read Psalm 25.

Whatever conflict you find yourself in today as you seek to remain on track with God’s plans and purposes, with humble heart and integrity, be encouraged to acknowledge God in all your ways trust him to see you through. He is your hope and your salvation.

I repent of any arrogance or self-centredness in any conflict I may have recently endured. I acknowledge you in every ambition, work, activity and relationship in my life. I place my confidence in your will for my life with fear and worship. I commit my future to you in the hope of your plans being fulfilled in me. May integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for you. Amen.”

GOD-TRACKING IS WAITING FOR GOD TO FULFILL HIS PLANS FOR YOU

Psalm 25:21
May integrity and uprightness preserve me for I wait for you.

GodTracker is all about seeking and remaining on track with God’s plans and purposes, even when those plans seem to take us the long way round. When I once asked God why he seemingly allowed difficulties into my life or took me on a road that seemed to lead nowhere, he simply replied, “As long as you acknowledge me in all your ways, you’ll remain on course with my will.”

David was a man who knew this fact well. While he was still a boy, God empowered him to rescue his people from a formidable enemy, by killing the giant Philistine, Goliath. Shortly afterward, the prophet Samuel anointed David king of Israel. However, King Saul, who was still on the throne, violently opposed David’s anointing. As a result, Saul was intent on killing young David. But, David was a man of integrity with his heart set on tracking the plans of God. It was years before David eventually came to the throne of Israel, though he was its rightful king. I could well imagine David thinking, “Dear Yahweh, I’ve acknowledged you all my life, why are you taking me the long way round?” Then he might have written, “To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul. O my God, in you I trust; let me not be put to shame; let not my enemies exult over me.”

Wherever you may find yourself on this track we call the Christian life, be encouraged, God is with you every step of the way. Like David, wait on God as you wait for God to direct your path according to his great plan. The Lord will lead you in his truth and guide you according to his perfect will, as you continue to acknowledge him in all your ways. Keep your heart humble and your eyes on Jesus. As David wrote, “Who is the man who fears the Lord? Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose.”

God-tracking is waiting for God to fulfill his plans for you.

Hebrews 12:1
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us

I’m told that the Greeks had a race in the early Olympic games that was unique to all the others. The winner of the race was not the runner who finished first. The winner was the runner who finished his race with his torch still lit. Paul the apostle, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit said, “Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we, an imperishable.”

One of my favourite English words is the word tenacity. Tenacity is defined as the quality or fact of being very determined; determination to grip something firmly. I could imagine those runners in the early Greek Olympics running as fast as they could, while gripping their Olympic torches firmly, with determination to win in such a way as to keep their flames burning.

God-tracking implies tracking the plans of God for our lives. This process requires us to remain on track with God’s purposes. If one of these athletes, running a track race, veered off track while he was running, he might stumble and fall in the rough, extinguish his torch. Christian, you and I are called to be the light of the world. Jesus said, “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” To keep that torch burning is to stay on track with God’s plans by acknowledge him in all your ways while seeking first his kingdom principles. Then to run the race set out before you with tenacity. Never, never give up and you will receive that imperishable prize!

God-tracking is running tenaciously

Help me to run with endurance and my flame burning this race that is set before me

“O Lord, forgive me for going off track and stumbling in the dirt of the world. I admit, my light has dimmed. I repent of all sin and grief that I have caused your Holy Spirit. I choose to pick myself up again and get back on the track to run with perseverance and tenacity, this race you have set out for me. Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him;

Karen and I were trekking home after a tremendous few days at a Christian conference. We were driving southbound on a main motorway in the British West Midlands. Our side of the motorway was free flowing, thankfully, but as we drove on we noticed a large articulated truck that had pulled off the carriageway on the opposite side of the road. The large vehicle had endured a blowout and its crew were changing the wheel. Due the size of the vehicle and the hazard it presented to other road users, the police had cordoned off two lanes, resulting in all the upcoming traffic being directed into one lane past the broken-down truck. Consequently, the traffic had backed up for miles leading up to the bottleneck at the road incident. Still charged from the touch of the Holy Spirit at the conference, I had a flash of inspiration cross my mind. The Lord dropped a word into my heart: “This is where so many of my children find themselves these days, backed up at a bottleneck in life.”

I know from my own walk along God’s track of life, that we, as 21st century Christians, become so involved and committed to myriad activities that, when we come across a little hiccup along the motorways of life, we become backed up and slow down like cars in a traffic jam. Consequently, we become stressed out, anxious and impatient. By our own reasoning we think we have everything under our control so when the unforeseen happens, we end up blaming others or God for messing up the free flow of our lives. But, God often uses the unforeseen little holdups in life to force us to stop and survey our journey. It’s when the unforeseen little holdups happen that we notice the scenery for the first time. And it’s often when the unforeseen little holdups happen that God begins to thin our lives out and teach a crucial lesson in patience and endurance. Our God is a patient God.

God-tracking is patiently waiting for God to clear the bottlenecks of life

Dear God Tracker

Your Constant In The Heat Of Change

It’s been said that some people will change when they see the light. Others change only when they feel the heat. Sadly life on this planet is thwarted with change. From the moment we’re born until the day we pass on to greener pastures we undergo constant change. Changes can sometimes be planned and desirable but they can also result from the unavoidable consequences of other people’s choices or changes upon our lives. But it’s how we deal with change that truly matters.

I thank God that he never changes. The Bible says that he is the same yesterday, today and forever. The Lord God is the only constant in the universe. When Jesus died to reconcile us to God he opened the way for the God-constant to become part of our lives. The day you saw the light and asked Jesus into your life you were transformed into a new creation. In unchanging Christ then, you are always safe and secure. So even when factors in your life influence your circumstances for change, the One in you remains the same, always. Like the air you breathe, God’s Holy Spirit is alongside you through every change of life you undergo. His love, grace and strength never vary. So today allow him to be your constant in the heat of change.

God tracking is constantly changing for the good, for good.

Ever blessing

Dudley

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Pray
“Dear Lord, thank you for changing my life for the good, for good when I asked Jesus into my heart. Thank you that the old has gone and the new has come. But I pray that you will help me to face unavoidable circumstantial changes that come my way. Help me to deal with the new and to release the old. Help me to be consistent through things that vary in my days. I choose to fix my eyes on Jesus who was constant throughout the crucifixion, because he saw himself on the other side of his circumstances, seated at God’s right hand. Thank you for being my constant, Lord, and author of my faith.”
