Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS STANDING SURE IN THE WISDOM, POWER AND LOVE OF OUR AWESOME GOD

Jeremiah 32:17
Ah, Lord GOD! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you.

Our God is an awesome God,
He reigns from heaven above,
With wisdom, power and love,
Our God is an awesome God!

How many times I’ve sung these amazing words written by the late Rich Mullins, with gusto but not really grasped what I was singing. Listen again: Our God is an awesome God who reigns from heaven above with wisdom, power and love. Our God is sovereign and omnipotent. Our God made the heavens and the earth by his outstretched arm (and the estimated size of the known universe is 8,800,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 metres in diameter), nothing is too difficult for him. Our God is full of wisdom, power and love, showing his love to generation upon generation of mankind while loving each one of us as though we were the only human alive. By the intimacy of personal fellowship through the Holy Spirit our God knows our needs, our dreams and our fears. Our God owns the cattle on a thousand hills; the world and its fullness is his. Our God is able to meet all our needs according to his glorious riches in Christ.

Whatever difficulty you’re facing today, don’t give up; look up!  Gaze at your difficulties through the spectacles of God’s awesome wisdom, power and love. His arm is not too short and his compassions are not too small to reveal his love, grace and power new every morning. If you turn to him today in repentance and submission, putting your trust in his love for you, then I know he will lift you out of that pit you find yourself in. He will be your hope for tomorrow and your strength for today. Our God cares for you, so go ahead – cast all your cares on him. Humble yourself before our God’s awesome hand and stand your ground against the devil’s schemes. God will exalt you above your foes. Never loose heart; always be encouraged. He will never leave nor forsake you.

God’s Word is the only resource you’ll ever need to face the trials of life. God’s Word is your daily food and it will nourish your soul. The living Holy Spirit watches over God’s Word and activates it in your life. So fill your heart and your mind – your very life – with the Word of God and the fellowship the Holy Spirit. Do this and you will have all you’ll ever need to face any attack of Satan. And the next time you sing that lovely simple worship song by Rich Mullins, sing with understanding and listening to its words. Boldly declare, our God is an awesome God!

God-tracking is standing sure in the wisdom, power and love of our awesome God

God bless you

Dudley

GOD-TRACKING IS DEALING WITH REBELLION BEFORE EXPECTING A BLESSING

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS DEALING WITH REBELLION BEFORE EXPECTING A BLESSING

Psalm 30:5
For his anger is but for a moment, and his favour is for a lifetime.
Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.

Maggie drew me aside after church one morning. “You said today that the Bible says God’s compassion is new every morning and that God desires to bless us every day,” she said. “Well, I don’t feel blessed when I wake up in the mornings. Every day I get up it feels like the world is on my shoulders. There is so much turmoil in my life, I feel like God has abandoned me.”

Indeed, I had brought a word about God’s compassion during worship that morning, quoting from the book of Lamentations that tells us God’s love never ceases and his compassion is new to us each morning we wake up. Yet, what Maggie had failed to realise was the fact that the prophetic book of Lamentations was written as a lament by a Godly man, while his people were in exile to Babylon. Around AD 605 God executed judgement on Judah because of their idolatrous rebellion. Judah had rejected God’s call to seek him and his warnings of pending judgement, brought through prophets like Jeremiah. Jeremiah warned his people that if they did not return to God with a pure heart, God would raise up their enemy against them. Sadly, the people ignored the warnings and, persecuting Jeremiah, continued in their rebellion. So God raised up the Babylonians to come against Judah.

Lamentations was probably also written by Jeremiah, but during the exile to Babylon. These words were most likely written while God’s people were under God’s discipline for their rebellion. Lamentations is a woeful cry about the agony they faced after losing their homes and liberty. Nebuchadnezzar was a ruthless and violent ruler. The Jews were abused and forced into labour under his rule. However, it was under this discipline of Father God that they were drawn back to God in repentance. After 70 years God raised up the likes of Ezra and Nehemiah to bring them back home to Jerusalem. It was during the height of this suffering that the prophet writes, “The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning,” and, “The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.”

I tried to gently explain to Maggie that God’s love is indeed, enduring and his compassion is revealed to us new every morning. However, sometimes, because of our rebellious ways or disobedience to his instructions, we open ourselves to the enemy’s attacks, just as Judah was attacked by their enemy because of their disobedience. Sometimes, it is not God who is to blame for not blessing us it is we who have stepped out from under his blessings, because of our apathy and indifference to his commands. I tried to clarify to Maggie that, instead of blindly claiming God’s blessings, she should ask him why she felt abandoned by him. Perhaps she was enduring her own little exile, because she had ignored his word to her.

Just as ancient Judah needed to repent of her rebellion and turn back to seeking God with a pure heart (as seen through the writings of Lamentations), so too we all need to repent of our rebellion and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. And he will bless those who seek him with clean hands and a pure heart.

God-tracking is dealing with rebellion before expecting a blessing

God bless you

It seems that every morning I don’t have joy. However, I realise now that one thing that inhibits your blessing in my life in my rebellion. Dear God, I am sorry. I repent of all the things I have said, done or even though in my mind that has grieved your Spirit. I’m sorry for not obeying your instructions. Please forgive me for my indifference and my apathy toward your calling. Help me to step out in faith to receive your blessing as I now seek you with all my heart. Amen."

GOD-TRACKING IS EXPECTING JOYFUL VICTORY IN THIS FIGHT WE FIGHT

Dear God-tracker

God-tracking is expecting joyful victory in this fight we fight

Psalm 142:3
When my spirit faints within me,
you know my way.

I once heard a little story about a woman who had been having trouble getting to sleep at night, because she feared burglars. One night her husband heard a noise in the house and went downstairs to investigate. When he stepped into the kitchen, he found a burglar. "Good evening," said the man of the house. "I am very pleased to see you. Please come upstairs to meet my wife. She has been waiting 10 years to meet you."

You may smile but the truth is, we’re all like this woman. We live constantly anticipating the worst, instead of living by faith; expecting God’s joyous purposes to work out in our lives. It doesn’t help that we’re lured into despondency by the bombardment of negative stories we hear when we turn on the news or read a newspaper: So much war, so much poverty, so much despair; children dying in overcrowded boats as parents flee conflict while whole cities are blown apart, because of the blaze of man’s pride. And then, when we put the tele off and make our way to bed, our minds wonder with the worries in our own lives: uncertain future, financial needs, family conflict. I think it’s time we wise up to the reality that exists in Christ. That is, whatever difficulties we face in our lives or whatever calamity we witness in the world around us, we need to remember, we are seated with Christ in heavenly realms. By our God we can run against a troop, and by our God we can leap over a wall.

Dear God-tracker, in Christ, you are already a winner! The Scripture tells you that if God is for you, none can be against you. In Christ you are more than a conqueror, because Jesus won the battle in the first place when he triumphed over sin, Satan and death at Calvary. If you continue to acknowledge the Lord in all your ways, then he will continue to direct the outcome of your days, meeting your every need. He is faithful and his love will endure every circumstance you may ever face. So why not live expectant of abundant life in Jesus rather than expecting the thief who comes to kill, steal and destroy?

God-tracking is expecting joyful victory in this fight we fight

God bless you

GOD-TRACKING IS CONSISTANTLY LIVING THE LIGHT

trACker 574
The e-Devotional helping to keep you on-track
Published through www.godtracker.co.uk

04 March 2016

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS CONSISTANTLY LIVING THE LIGHT

1 Corinthians 2:18
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord,[c] are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

Jesus once said, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Also, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Paul instructs the Ephesians to not live under the wiles of the world in dark decay but rather to live in the light of God, exposing the corruption of the world. He says, “At one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.” And to the Thessalonians Paul writes, “For you are all children of light, children of the day.” In 2 Corinthians we read how when Moses came down from Sinai he needed to veil his face, because he shone with the brilliance of God. It goes on to say that, through the work of Christ, that veil has been removed. In other words, the light of God, which comes from within each true Bible believing Christian, is free to shine through our lives

Imagine you’re facing a dazzling car headlight on full beam. I’m sure you’ll agree that the light might hurt your eyes, perhaps even be offensive to you. Now imagine taking a thick heavy blanket and covering that headlight. At last, as the light is covered, your eyes can rest. However, not only have you veiled the luminescence of that halogen light bulb but you have also removed the source of light that enables you to see all around you. Not only so, but that light is still shining as intensely as it always has... under the veil!

Dear God-tracker, you are that headlamp, shining bright. That light in you comes from the glory of the Holy Spirit. This light exposes works of darkness. This light reveals the love, grace and holiness of God; it’s the source of spiritual luminescence that enables those around you to see their way to God. However, dear child of Light, this light will also offend those around you who walk in darkness, because it hurts their depraved spiritual eyes. Therefore, they may try to cover your light with a veil, but, even so, they will never prevent your light from burning. You may find you are being ridiculed for your faith or bullied because you call yourself a born again Christian. You may find the devil trying to snuff out you light by covering up what you believe about homosexuality, creation, promiscuity or about Jesus being the only way to God. You may feel as though the world is attempting to cover-up their sin by trying to conceal your standing for God’s truth. But remember your light will always be burning, even under that cover! And whenever they lift the edge of that veil to peak inside, they will be dazzled once again by God’s brilliant light coming from within you!

(Please read all the scriptures listed below.)

God-tracking is consistently living the light.

Keep on shining

Dudley

Pray
“Father God, thank you so much for your light that shines in and through me. Because of what Jesus did for me at Calvary, all my sin has been atoned for. Therefore, as I have confessed my sinful darkness to you, you have replaced it with your righteous light. That light is in me! I lay claim to that light and choose to reflect your glory into the world around me, no matter how they may react. Some may accept your light and turn from their darkness while others may attempt to veil the light that shines from my life, because of their guilt. Lord, help me to be strong as I choose to consistently shine your light even under the veil of indifferent secularisation. I will always shine for your glory, Lord! Amen.”

GOD-TRACKING IS ACCEPTING YOUR 2,000 YEAR OLD FORGIVENESS, TODAY

trACker 573
The e-Devotional helping to keep you on-track
Published through www.godtracker.co.uk

26 February 2016

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS ACCEPTING YOUR 2,000 YEAR OLD FORGIVENESS, TODAY

Acts 2:38
And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Pastor Frank’s eyes were closed as he sang along to the worship song. The time was a little after 6.15 pm. Frank was content as he worshiped. Suddenly the rear doors of the church burst open! What happened next would change and Frank’s understanding of forgiveness forever. Repetitive cracking noises; several intermittent thundering bangs then stunned silence. Some people groaned then one woman screamed, then another. More cracks and soon pandemonium erupted as people rushed for the doors. More cracking noises… and blood. Frank froze in terror. He realised his church was under attack. Four terrorists had burst in on their Sunday evening worship service wielding R4 automatic assault rifles and hand grenades.

The St James Church massacre on 25th July 1993 in Cape Town, South Africa took 11 lives and wounded 58 more. Like all terrorism, this was an atrocious act of cowardice. However, what the devil planned for evil, God turned for good. Immediately after the attack, Frank Retief was heard saying on camera that he forgave the attackers. Many years later, after the end of Apartheid in South Africa, these perpetrators appealed to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission for amnesty. As was the crux of the Commission, Frank Retief was called upon to offer pardon to his attackers, which he willingly did with clear conscience before his God. Later Frank was quoted as saying, “Forgiveness can be offered immediately after an offence but forgiveness is never received until it is actually asked for by the offender.”

While hanging in shear agony on a cruel wooden cross, Jesus Christ cried out, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Almost 2,000 years ago Jesus spoke those words not only to the people who had crucified him but to the entire world. If, indeed, God loved the whole world so much that he sent his Son to save those who would believe in him then what Jesus did and said on the cross was universally applied. Jesus died for your sins so that you could be included in those words, “Father, forgive them.”

Frank Retief discovered he was able to honestly offer forgiveness to his attackers immediately after their attack, but that forgiveness was not theirs until repentance was sought by his attackers. Just so, God has already forgiven all your acts of sin, long before you ever repented. However, that forgiveness was never yours until you actually asked for it. Just as Frank was able to offer instant forgiveness only by God’s grace, your forgiveness became available the instant Jesus died for your sins, only by God’s grace. There is nothing you can do to make right with God for the wrong you’ve done, except to repent and accept his forgiveness. It does not matter how dreadful your sins may have been, Jesus has already paid the price for that sin on the cross almost 2,000 years ago. Don’t delay one minute longer. Reach out and accept his forgives, now. Listen: For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Only by his grace is God offering you this free gift of life, made possible by Jesus’ atonement for your sins the day he died. So why not repent now and receive the forgiveness he offers, today?

God-tracking is accepting your 2,000 year old forgiveness, today

God bless you

Dudley

Thank you that when Jesus cried out ‘Father forgive them,’ he was asking you to forgive the sins of the whole world, including mine. Dear God, I admit to my wrong; I repent of my sins, in Jesus’ name. I am sorry for all that I have thought or done that has grieved you in in way. I confess and repent of the sin into which I have been born and seek your forgiveness. I surrender my life to you and ask you to come dwell inside of me, by your Spirit. GOD-TRACKING IS PRAISING GOD IN THE FACE OF EVERY DILEMMA

The e-Devotional helping to keep you on-track
Published through www.godtracker.co.uk

19 February 2016

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS PRAISING GOD IN THE FACE OF EVERY DILEMMA

Psalm 146:1-2
Praise the LORD!
Praise the LORD, O my soul!
I will praise the LORD as long as I live;

I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.
In his book, Prison to Praise, Merlin Carothers shares about how he ended up in prison for a crime he’d committed and how he found Jesus as Lord and Saviour behind bars. It was there that he discovered the power of praise. That is, he discovered that praising God for a need was even more powerful than simply praying to God for that need. He teaches that praising God in advance for the answers to prayers raises the levels of faith in the person praying. Praise anticipates what God can do. Carothers writes, “I have come to believe that the prayer of praise is the highest form of communication with God, and one that always releases a great deal of power into our lives.”

I have discovered that, like worship, praise is prayer. When we praise God we are actually praying. Praise proclaims the power and presence of God right into a situation. Praising God moves you from today, where your need is prevalent, into tomorrow, where your need is met. Praising God does not plead a case; praising God anticipates case closed! Praising God raises your levels of faith as you seek God, and faith pleases God who rewards the seeker. Praise is expectant of answers to prayers made in the morning. We are told to have no anxiety about anything but to let our requests be made to God with thanksgiving: thanking God that we have the privilege to pray; thanking God that he has the power to meet our needs and thanking God that he has already done it!

I have also found praise to be a powerful weapon in my battle against temptation. The devil levels temptation and trials against us to cause us to lose faith and fall away from God. But, God’s Word exhorts us to rejoice in tribulation. Listen: “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds.” Praising God takes us into the realm of joy. I have found that it is impossible to praise God and sin at the same time. Therefore, when I am tempted I will begin praising God for his presence and his goodness and his strength.

Whatever you’re going through today; whatever you’re facing tomorrow begin praising God now! Open your mouth and declare his goodness and his holiness. Confess that he is great and greatly to be praised. Begin singing praise songs to your Lord and proclaiming his glory right into your situation. Instead of praying for your needs, praise for your needs and you will be amazed at how God will release a great deal of power into your life.

God-tracking is praising God in the face of every dilemma

God bless you

Dudley

Don’t Give Up, Look Up!

As I praise you I believe that you release a great deal of power into my life

Pray
“Dear God, I praise you that you are omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient. Thank you that already know all about my needs and worries and have the power to meet them. Thank you that you are already on the other side of this wall I face, preparing my way and meeting my needs. Today – here and now – I submit to your will and your purposes. I give my life to serve you and seek your plans. I praise you for your goodness, your power and your presence in my life. I will bless you and praise you with all that is within me. Thank you that your good presence and strength are here with me, even as I face every trial and temptation. As I praise you I believe that you release a great deal of power into my life. For yours is the Kingdom the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.”

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS FACING PERSECUTION IN THE VICTORY OF THE CROSS

Romans 8:31
What then shall we say to these things?
If God is for us, who can be against us?

“I was reading that Christians and Jews are the most persecuted people in the world,” said Tony as we prepared to pray that morning. “We have so many enemies around the world. Why do you think that is,” he asked? I tried to explain that it is has to do with the fact both Christians and Jews are worshipers of the one true God Almighty, while the world is under the curse of sin where Satan is lord. Ultimately it’s a battle between good and evil. Satan hates God’s people and will do all he can to wipe them from the face of the earth. As followers of Christ, Christians are particularly persecuted, because Satan continually attempts to undermine Christ’s victory over him at Calvary. My friend grunted some response under his breath as we began our prayer time.

I knew that Tony was very angry, and rightly so. However, even though Satan is continually attacking God’s people, Jesus has already conquered him by bearing the wages of our sin when he died. At the cross, the Son of God, who was without sin, humbled himself by taking on the punishment of sin. Jesus became sin for us so that, in him, we could become God’s righteousness. This was how God demonstrated his love for the world in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us. And so, through the humility of the cross Jesus triumphed over sin, death and Satan, making a public spectacle of the forces of evil. The Bible tells us that if we confess Jesus as Lord and believe he died and rose again, we will be saved from sin, death and Satan. Therefore, in Christ we are more than conquerors!

“You’re already a winner, Tony!” I said as we concluded our prayer time. “But your victory is not over flesh and blood but over the forces of evil behind that flesh and blood. The weapons you fight with are not natural weapons like the gun or the sword; the weapons you fight with are divine and mighty! They have great power to tear down spiritual strongholds and to overcome all the power of Satan. Two of those weapons,” I explained, “are prayer and love. Listen to what Jesus said: ‘Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.’ You see, perfect love casts out fear and only love can change your enemy’s heart. So stand strong in prayer and love. Always remember, God is on your side and if God is for you who can be against you?”

Don’t Give Up, Look Up!

Give me the strength to love those that persecute us and pray for their salvation

Pray
“Lord Almighty, I get so very angry when I read how Christians are being persecuted around the world. I also get angry at the people in my own life that bully or persecute me! I realise that this is justifiable anger, but you have not called me to fight back against people. Rather, you have called me to fight against the forces of evil behind the evil acts of people. Therefore, I choose to not hate those who persecute us. I choose – by your grace – to love them. I pray for the persecutors of Christians and Jews around the world that you would make your Word plain to them. Convict them of guilt in regard to sin and bring them to repentance. I pray also for the Suffering Church that you would comfort, heal and deliver them from their attackers. Give them strength to stand up under persecution. And Lord, give me the strength to love those that persecute us and pray for their salvation. To the glory of God I pray. Amen.”
