What is failure? Failure effects all of us. Some failures seem larger than life while others seem to pass in the breeze like a leaf falling from a tree in autumn. However, we all frown upon failure as if it were cancer gnawing away at the meaning of life. Yet failure is a precursor to success.

Jim Burke was head of a new products division at Johnson & Johnson. One of his first projects was to develop a children's chest rub. The product failed miserably and Jim expected he would be fired. However, when he was called before the chairman of the board, Robert Wood Johnson, he was flabbergasted when the chairman said, "Are you the one who just cost us all that money? Well, I just want to congratulate you. If you are making mistakes, that means you are taking risks, and we won't grow unless you take risks." Some years later, Burke himself became chairman of Johnson & Johnson. Author Bob Gass puts it this way, “In order to grasp the thing at which you succeed you must let go of the thing at which you failed.”

For any tracker of God’s plans, failure is not failure at all. The Scripture reminds us that God knows the plans he has for us and if we acknowledge God in all our ways then it is he who directs the outcome of our lives. Often what we evaluate as failure is nothing more than a steppingstone to the purposes of God. We need to remember it is God who produces the product of our lives. It is his blessing that brings wealth and success, not our performance. You see, as with your salvation, your good works cannot earn God’s favour. Only by grace are you saved and only by grace (God’s favour) can you succeed in the plans God knows he has for you. Grace is God’s doing. Grace is enough. Grace is your success.

SO, DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY

You are my teacher and only your blessing will bring success in my life. I seek your blessing on all I do with all my heart

“O Lord, I think I have failed at so many things in life. Forgive me for any errors of judgment or sin that may have led me to make decisions contrary to your will. But, I realise now that failure in my life is only part of the process of success. I know I am saved by grace through faith. My salvation cannot be accredited to the work of my hands. Likewise, my work and performance in life cannot be accredited to my doing but to your grace. So, dear Lord, I embrace failures as part of the learning process. You are my teacher and only your blessing will bring success in my life. I seek your blessing on all I do with all my heart. Amen.”

GOD-TRACKING IS BEING MOTIVATED GOD’S GRACE

GodTracker 720
The e-devotional helping to keep you on track with God’s plans for your life. GodTracker is published at http://godtracker.co.uk

“Feeling demotivated today? Let the favour (grace) of the Lord your God be upon you and establish the work of your hands upon you; yes, establish the work of your hands!

Psalm 90:17a
Let the favour of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!

Each for £7.50
Glen, a pastor of a small community church, tells the story of how he was called to the ministry. He says that he felt God's call to the ministry while working as a successful businessman. He began taking Bible courses at night and eventually obtained his degree. Before graduation, he informed his boss that he'd soon be leaving to work as a pastor in a rural church. Neither the owner of the company or the boss believed him, and they neglected to obtain a replacement for Glen. Eventually, Glen told the boss that he really was leaving, and they needed to find a replacement as soon as possible. The owner of the company still doubting Glen's sincerity, instructed Glen's boss, "Offer him a $500.00 raise, and if he takes it, fire him on the spot!"

Motivation is a fleeting emotion. So many folks are motivated by money or success or the esteem of others, while others are motivated by responsivity or duty. And there are those people who are secure in their own self-esteem and press into great heights under self-motivation until their self-motivation is undermined by criticisms. When motivations like these begin to fade the individual becomes deflated and often descends into depression.

I believe these types of motivation are transient. In the Bible, we find many characters who were seemingly self-motivated, like Apostle Paul. Paul was a great miracle-working preacher who planted many churches and, under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, penned several books of the Bible. And yet, Paul faced intense bouts of demotivation. One time he said, “A thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited.” I could imagine this “thorn” might have been criticism and great opposition, attempting to demotivate him and drag him away from God’s purposes. But Paul goes on to say that Jesus told him, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

Grace is God’s doing. Grace saves us from sin and grace empowers us to serve. Grace is God working in you both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Feeling demotivated today? Let the favour (grace) of the Lord your God be upon you and establish the work of your hands upon you; yes, establish the work of your hands!

I surrender the work of my hands to you

“Dear Lord, I have tried very hard to maintain my motivation but I’m feeling very unmotivated today. I am weary. In my attempt for success, please forgive me if I have done anything wrong and reveal any wrongdoing to me. I surrender the work of my hands to you, in Jesus’ name. I seek your power and grace to motivate me to carry on. Dear Lord, my your favour – your grace – establish the work of my hands. Amen.”

GOD-TRACKING IS BEING SUCCESSFUL IN LIFE ONLY BY THE BLESSING OF THE LORD

The blessing of the Lord relieves you from the responsibility of striving for achievement, because the blessing of the Lord is powered by God’s sufficient grace.

GOD-TRACKING IS BEING SUCCESSFUL IN LIFE ONLY BY THE BLESSING OF THE LORD

Proverbs 10:22
The blessing of the LORD makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it

One morning R. C. Chapman, known as the apostle of love, was asked how he was feeling. "I'm burdened this morning!" said Chapman. But his happy smile contradicted his words. So, the questioner exclaimed in surprise, "Are you really burdened, Mr. Chapman?" He replied, "Yes, but it's a wonderful burden. It's an overabundance of blessings for which I cannot find enough time or words to express my gratitude!" Seeing the quizzical look on his friend’s face, Chapman added with a smile, "I am referring to Psalm 68:19, which fully describes my condition. In that verse, the Father in heaven reminds us that He 'daily loads us with benefits.'"

Everybody faces down days from time to time. I had one, the other day. For no reason at all, in the middle of the day, I began feeling completely unmotivated and miserable (yes, even pastors have down days). I had no major issues at the office and the family was good, but somehow, I just wanted to shut down and sleep. Just the thought of writing another word or answering the next call became a mountain I dreaded to climb. Probably a lying attack from Satan, but I began questioning my levels of success and achievement. I went to bed that night wondering why I do what I do.

The next morning, I dragged myself to my normal spot where I read and pray. Still pondering the feelings of the day before a scripture came to mind. Through the haze of self-doubt and self-pity I sensed the Holy Spirit say, “I am your source and your resource. It’s not your effort that wins the day, for the blessing of the Lord brings riches, and he adds no sorrow to it.” Instantly I realised that, no matter how hard I labour; no matter how much enthusiasm I attempt muster to do the job, without God’s blessing it will come to nought.

Success is the consequence of God’s blessing. The blessing of the Lord is your source of joy, purpose and accomplishments. Seeking the blessing of God means seeking his favour, his motivation and his drive for all you do. The blessing of the Lord is his endorsement – his signature – at the bottom of the contract saying, “This work is done in my Name!” The blessing of the Lord relieves you from the responsibility of striving for achievement, because the blessing of the Lord is powered by God’s sufficient grace. And grace is God’s doing! So, let’s stand back and agree with R. C. Chapman today, blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation.

I give you glory for all my successes, because they are fuelled by your blessing, alone

“O Lord, thank you for your grace. Grace is your unmerited favour! Grace powers your blessings and I thank you that you load me with benefits, because of the saving work of Jesus Christ. Today I therefore, seek your blessing on everything I do: I seek your blessing on my work; I seek your blessing on my ministry; I seek your blessing on my family and my marriage and I seek your blessing on every relationship in my life. It is your blessing that will cause success in my life. I give you glory for all my successes, because they are fuelled by your blessing, alone. Amen.”
