Dear God Tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS GETTING YOUR HEART RIGHT WITH GOD, FIRST

Luke 6:45
The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

One of my favourite Bible heroes is the great king of Israel, King David. I love David because he was a simple shepherd boy who discovered the secret of constantly keeping his heart pure before God.

David was the youngest son of a regular Hebrew man called, Jesse. Being a shepherd in the Middle East in those days, was a very humble job. Nevertheless, we read how David did his job to the best of his ability, even risking his own life for the safety of his father’s sheep. This humble young man was soon to become the shepherd of the people of God; the greatest king ancient Israel would ever know.

Yet, as we read David’s story we notice that he was less than perfect. Becoming a great warrior-king meant that he was responsible for the deaths of many people, through the acts of war. Also, on one occasion we read how David fell in love with another man’s wife and married her, after sending her husband to his death on the front line. David committed adultery and murder! However, we read that David was called, a man after God’s own heart. In fact, it is from David’s line that we received the promised Messiah and saviour of the world, Jesus.

I believe that God looks at the heart and not the hands. We are told that we are justified by grace, through faith and not the works of our hands. Faith and grace are qualities experienced in the heart, when we believe that Jesus died and rose again to free us from sin. Jesus said that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth will speak. Consequently, because grace and faith are expressed in the heart (and have made us right with God through grace and faith) the actions of our hands will simply reveal the salvation within our hearts. This calls for living a life totally surrendered to the grace of God, with a pure heart before the Lord.

David was a true God Tracker. David lived in God’s grace and David walked by faith. David was not a perfect person but David’s heart was right. When he sinned, he was very quick to repent and walk with a contrite heart before God. Though he was a great king, David knew that he was nothing, had nothing and meant nothing, but for the grace of God. David was made righteous by faith in God’s forgiveness and walked in the integrity of the hope of his salvation. He didn’t always do things right but he knew that purity of heart preceded purity of hand.

God-tracking is getting your heart right with God, first.

God bless

Dudley

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS BEING DELIGHTED IN THE HAPPINESS FOUND IN FOLLOWING CHRIST

Psalm 37:4
Delight yourself in the LORD,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

I realise there are people who go through life with very little difficulty, but these are the exception. For most of us, life is filled with ups and downs (sometimes more downs than ups). However, the secret of being happy is not in looking for happiness itself. Some think happiness is found in pleasure, possessions or people, while others look for happiness in riches. Happiness is illusive and transient. True lasting happiness can only be found by delighting oneself in the Lord.

We all have needs and desires in life. God knows our needs, even before we know them. Jesus taught us not to run after natural pleasures or even natural needs. He said, “Do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.” This is why he told us to look for God’s goodness and God’s Kingdom before looking to meet our own needs or wants. Indeed, God is our Father and no father will spitefully withhold good things from his child.

Whatever your need may be, turn to Abba before you turn anywhere else and trust him to meet that need. Your Father is the Father of heaven and has all power and resource to meet your every need. More than this, he loves you and delights in granting you the desires of your heart. First seek his righteousness so that your desires will line up with his purposes for you. Then delight yourself in the Lord and he will grant you the desires of your heart. So, be delighted to follow his plan for your life; be delighted to spend time with Father in worship and prayer and be delighted to read the Bible, meditating on his Word day and night, Do this and God will fill your life with a contented happiness. Delight yourself in Jesus today and he will make you happy.

God-tracking is being delighted in the happiness found in following Christ.

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS EXPECTING GOD TO ALWAYS CONFIRM HIS GUIDANCE IN YOUR LIFE

Isaiah 55:9
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Some say that God never uses physical dimensions when guiding us and that he only guides us through spiritual means. Indeed, God does guide us in spiritual ways: the still small voice of his Spirit in our hearts, an anointed word from Scripture or even through dreams and visions. However, God also uses literal physical incidents to guide us in our choices for living.

In the early 1990s, my wife and I had sensed the Lord’s guidance calling us to leave family and friends in South Africa and move to a new country. We’d had a notion that God was going to move us for some time and were knocking on doors around the world. Eventually a potential opportunity opened for us in the Midlands of England. After much prayer and God seeking, in faith, we felt it was time to sell our house and make plans to move. However, Karen loved our home and still had some reservations about moving.

One afternoon Karen was walking down the long gated driveway of our home in Pretoria praying, “Dear Lord, I’m still not certain about selling up to move to the UK. Do you really want us to sell this house and move?” Just then there was a gust of wind. The weather was good that day; the wind came from nowhere. As small white A5 handbill blew over the gate and landed at her feet. “Oh, this junk-mail gets in everywhere,” Karen thought as she picked up the leaflet to discard it. Her eyes caught the bold print at the top of the page: It’s Time to Sell You House. Karen was mesmerised. How could this ever be a coincidence? She had just spoken these words to God in prayer and now she read them in black and white on the piece of paper in her hand.

Gideon in the Bible asked God for a literal confirmation of his calling on his life. He put out a sheep’s fleece one night and asked God to wet it with dew and prevent the ground around it from being wet. He did this to test that what he sensed God was saying was correct. The next morning all the ground around the fleece was dry but the fleece was very wet. Gideon might have thought this result was a coincidence so he asked God to reverse the process the next night. Sure enough, the next morning the fleece was dry and the ground was wet. God made his point and Gideon obeyed God’s call with great effect.

Coincidence never occurs in prayer. God is sovereign and omniscient. If he can use the sun and the moon to confirm his Word, then he can use even tiny literal incidents in your life to communicate his plans to you. Don’t underestimate God’s ability to use the obvious or mundane to guide you. Try not to confine your opinion of how God speaks to only one format. God is sovereign and omniscient and he will do whatever he chooses to do to get his message through to you. His ways are not like our ways; they are often contrary to our human reason. So, in seeking the plans that God has for you, open your heart to his higher ways and simply expect him to speak.

God-tracking is expecting God to always confirm his guidance in your life

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS LETTING GOD DO THE FIGHTING FOR YOU

Romans 8:37
Know, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

The mighty Philistine warrior stood brazenly brandishing his 6-and-a-half-kilogram spear. Goliath was a giant of a man. He was selected out of the ranks of the Philistines to represent their army in a one-on-one battle against the Israelites. In those times, to minimise loss, a king would select his strongest man to go out against his counterpart from the opposing army in a one-on-one fight. Whoever won the fight and killed his opponent, would win the battle for his army. Goliath was confident that no Israelite would defeat him. “I defy the ranks of Israel this day. Give me a man, that we may fight together.”

King Saul watched in horror as his men cowered in fear. He had no man in his ranks of the stature of Goliath. Just then a young messenger boy was brought to him. “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God? Let no man's heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine,” said shepherd-boy David to the king. “All this assembly may know that the LORD saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is the Lord’s.”

We know the end of this story well. Young David kills the giant Goliath with a single slingshot. Israel’s champion conquers the Philistine’s champion. Under the rules of war at the time, this meant that the Israelite army had conquered the Philistine army. So, the Israelites pursued the retreating Philistines, gaining a great victory.

I love this story because it makes clear that David is the champion who won the battle. Out of hundreds of mighty men left standing in their ranks, David was the single individual who took on the giant. He fought in the name of the Lord, in one-on-on combat and defeated the enemy. He knew the battle was the Lord’s, that day. However, though David fought alone, he won the battle for all the men in the ranks behind him. He fought the fight but his men won the war. David was the conqueror while his brothers in the ranks were more than conquerors.

Whatever battle you’re in remember, the battle is not yours; it’s the Lord’s. If you are sure you are walking in the truth (and make sure you are walking in the truth), then you have nothing to defend. The truth will vindicate you. If you’re facing a fight today, be still and wait patiently for the Lord to defend you. Be strong and courageous, Jesus has won the victory! In Christ, you are more than a conqueror!

God-tracking is letting God do the fighting for you.

Fix your eyes on Jesus

Jesus is my champion. In Christ, I am more than a conqueror!

Pray
“Dear Lord, I feel so helpless today. This fight seems to be taking its toll on me. And yet, I know now that I should not be trying to do this on my own. I know the devil is my real enemy and I know that Jesus conquered him at Calvary. Jesus triumphed over all the forces of evil in the cross, making a public spectacle of the devil. My champion, Jesus Christ, fought a one-on-on battle with the enemy and conquered him. Thank you Lord for this victory. Therefore, as a Christian believer and one who walks by faith in Christ, I have won the battle. Like David’s brothers in the ranks were victorious, because David won the fight for them, I too am victorious, because Jesus won the fight for me. Jesus is my champion. In Christ, I am more than a conqueror! Praise God! Amen.”

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS CASTING YOUR BLUES ON JESUS WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE RUNNING AWAY

1 Peter 5:7
casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

I love the book of Psalms in the Bible. Of the 150 Psalms David is accredited with writing 75 of them. David was also a prophet. Many of the Psalms he wrote are messianic prophecy, predicting the coming of Jesus. David is called, “a man after God’s own heart.” He was a great warrior king who expanded his kingdom vastly during his reign, and yet, many of the Psalms he wrote are honest cries to God for help in desperate situations. One might say that, as he wrote some of these Psalms, David was singing the blues.

As I read David’s Psalms I take courage. If you’re anything like me then you would agree that there are moments in life when you wish you could just run away – get away from the rat race and retire to a desert island somewhere. One Psalm, in particular, describes King David feeling exactly the same emotions that I’ve had from time to time – Psalm 55.

Absalom was king David’s third son. As with all his sons, David loved Absalom very much. Absalom grew up and became a mighty warrior under his father’s command. King David’s domain had grown substantially; he was a greatly respected and blessed man of God. One day young Absalom decided he wanted to overthrow his father’s kingdom. He rallied a small army under his command and usurped his father’s authority by enticing some of his advisors to join him and, declaring himself king of Israel, he overthrows the throne of David. David was heartbroken. A mighty and ruthless warrior was he, yet he loved his son too much to simply kill him to stop the conspiracy. So, David flees Jerusalem. Eventually Joab, David’s general, commands an army against Israel and kills Absalom. David mourns his son’s death, though he was his enemy.

It’s with this backdrop we read: “My heart is in anguish within me; the terrors of death have fallen upon me.  Fear and trembling come upon me, and horror overwhelms me. And I say, ‘Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest; yes, I would wander far away; I would lodge in the wilderness.’ “

Do you ever feel like running away? Oh, that I had wings like a dove, just to get away from it all. You’re not alone. Great men of God have felt the same way. Troubles and stresses overtake us sometimes. Workload and worries overwhelm us on every side. I would wander far away; I would lodge in the wilderness. It is natural to feel this way. But take heart, the Psalmist goes on to say, “But I call to God, and the Lord will save me,” and, “Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved,” and, “But I will trust in you.”

If you’re singing the blues today, lift your head and put your trust in the Lord. Jesus said, “In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” So, chase those blues away by singing, “This is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.”

I turn to you and will not give up; rather, I look up!

Pray
“Heavenly Father, I admit that I’m feeling down today. Like King David, I feel like running away from it all. Oh, that I had wings of a dove to fly into the sunset. There are so many problems I’m facing – worries, fears, overload, expectations, undue responsibilities – that I just want to leave it all behind and never come back. However, I know that it’s not your will that I should just abandon my responsibilities and the people I love. I know that if I run away I will take these blues along with me. Forgive me, Lord, for anything that have done to allow Satan to get a foothold in my life. I turn to you and will not give up; rather, I look up! You are my source of provision, peace and joy. You are my strength, hope and deliverance. Thank you, Jesus. You have overcome the world. So, I cast my cares on you because you care for me. Amen!”

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS DOING LIFE GOD’S WAY

2 Corinthians 13:14
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

Sally was sitting flat on the filthy pavement, her back against the shop window. People streamed passed her on the busy city sidewalk, oblivious to her plight. No one noticed her smudged mascara or the dried tear stains on her cheeks. Sally had nowhere to go; rejected by her lover, thrown out of her apartment, now homeless, penniless and alone. Only 3 months prior Sally was safe and secure in a caring home with her husband and 2 children. Sadly, she’d been led astray by an urge to seek for that elusive, “there’s gotta be more to life than this”. Dissatisfied with what she had, she’d left her husband a note, drew their life savings and set off on an adventure to explore the world. Now it was all gone. She sat there alone, longing to fill her stomach with at least the scraps from her dear husband’s plate. “O Lord, I have failed you,” she said between sobs, “I am deeply sorry.”

Sally knew Jesus. She had committed her heart to him in Sunday School as a child. She and her husband had attended a wonderful family friendly church, back home. However, she had become dissatisfied with that same-old routine, day after day and week after week. Discontentment has a way of clouding our judgement. Sally had abandoned her security, her family and even her faith to fulfil a craving for the alternative life. She thought she could make it rich. How she had discovered that she could not do life on her own or in her own way. There is nothing more to live for but to humbly repent and seek God’s will again. Sally dragged herself up to her feet. “Perhaps if I can just get to the train station, God will help me find my way home.”

So many of us think we can make it on our own. Perhaps not as severe as this little story today, but we all, one way or another, often abandon all reason – and God’s will – trying to do life our way. This is folly. There is no way I can do my life any other way, with any meaningful purpose, than to do it God’s way. The scriptures tell us to acknowledge God in all our ways and he will make our paths straight. Scripture tells us to humble ourselves before the Lord and he will lift us up. God knows your past from your future and he knows how to fit everything else in, in-between. If you’ve acknowledged him as Lord, then he is the author of your life.

Help me to return to the place where I left this track, so that I can continue to live content within your will

Pray
“Dear Lord, I’m at my wits end. Please forgive me for taking my eyes off you and seeking to do life my own way. I’ve made a mess of it. I realise now that the only way to do things is to do them your way. Forgive me for stepping out of your will. I make a U-turn now and reaffirm that you are my Lord and my guide. I acknowledge you in all my ways again and trust you to direct my life’s paths. Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS LIVING BY FAITH UNDER THE BENEFITS OF GOD’S RIGHTEOUSNESS IN YOU

Romans 1:17
For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.

Jesus is the blueprint of God for your life. The Bible says that we have all sinned and corrupted his perfect righteous image in which we were created. Even though God gave us the Law of Moses, it was rendered powerless in that it was weakened by the sinful nature. So, God sent his own Son, Jesus to reconcile us to himself. Because Jesus is God – God incarnate – he is and was sinless. Even so, God’s plan was to allow righteous Jesus to take the curse of sin when he died for us. You see, God imputed Jesus with your sin so that, by repentance and faith, you could be imputed with his righteousness. In Christ, you become the righteousness of God. Jesus in you is God’s original plan for your life.

Many people think they need to work hard to earn God’s favour, but this is impossible. God is so holy and righteous that we would need to become as he is in order to earn his favour. However, Jesus is already how God is, because Jesus is God in the flesh. Therefore, to become righteous, you and I need to intentionally repent of sin and then live by faith in God’s grace. The moment you truly repent of sin and admit your failings, you die to the old nature of sin. Then the moment you exercise faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus you put confidence in Christ and begin to live by his righteousness.

If you are in Christ you are a new creation, the old sinful life is gone and you have a new righteous life, in Christ. You were crucified with him when you confessed your sins and surrendered your life to God. It’s no longer the old you living in your body; it’s Christ living in you; and he is the righteousness of God! You see, the righteousness you now have in you is not your righteousness but it’s God’s righteousness in you.

Therefore, you can claim the benefits of the righteous. The Palms are packed with promises to the righteous:

“For you bless the righteous, O Lord; you cover him with favour as with a shield,” (Psalm 5:11)

“The eyes of the Lord are towards the righteous and his ears towards their cry,” (Psalm 34:15)

“When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles,” (Psalm 34:17)

“Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all,” (Psalm 34:19)

“I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread,” (Psalm 37:25)

These are to mention but a few. However, we remind ourselves that we can only stand righteous before God, through Christ. That is, Jesus Christ is truly righteous and only by faith in his atoning death are we made righteous. Indeed, the righteous will live by faith!

God-tracking is living by faith under the benefits of God’s righteousness in you

I’m made righteous by faith and so live daily by faith, claiming the benefits of the righteous as written in your Word

Pray
“O holy God, I admit that, in myself, I don’t have what it takes to be righteous. I admit and confess my sin to you. You are faithful and just to forgive and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. Thank you for your grace and mercy and for forgiving me of all sin. I choose to die to my old self and commit my life to you, in Jesus’ name. By faith I now lay hold of your righteousness. I confess that Jesus became sin for me so that, in him, I might become righteous by your righteousness. Thank you for the promises you make to the righteous. I’m made righteous by faith and so live daily by faith, claiming the benefits of the righteous as written in your Word. Thank you for cleansing my sin and making me righteous, in Christ. Amen.”

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS FACING EVERY WEARY DAY WITH THE ZEAL OF GOD

Isaiah 9:7
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.

My favourite spot in my home is where I have my time with the Lord. This spot happens to be the floor next to my bed in my bedroom. I love to sit with my back against the bed facing the window and read the Bible. That morning I sat down a little disgruntled. “Lord I feel so unmotivated at the moment,” I grumbled. “So much going on. I feel like I’ve run out of steam.” I opened my Bible randomly. It fell to Isaiah chapter 9 and I began to read: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given…” In my heart I was saying, I’ve read this portion so many times. How does it apply to what I’m feeling today? Then my eyes fell on the last line of Isaiah’s prophecy, “The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.” These words leapt out of the page at me.

Another word for zeal is the word, enthusiasm. That day I was feeling less than enthusiastic to say the least. I had several projects on the go and was waiting on the Lord for a word for my Sunday sermon. It’s not easy to find inspiration when one is feeling low. As I read those words God’s zeal consumed me. I literally felt strength return to my weary arms.

Are you feeling overloaded, underpaid and taken for granted today? Perhaps you’re not well and feel your energy fading away. Our God is sovereign and omnipotent. His strength is endless and only his zeal can strengthen our weary bones. Christ knows exactly what you face today and how you are feeling, so come to Jesus when you’re weary and overloaded; he will give you rest. Cast all your cares on him, because he cares for how you feel. Allow his enthusiasm to consume you. Remember, the zeal the zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

God-tracking is facing every weary day with the zeal of God

Blessings

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS TRUSTING GOD’S PLANS THROUGH THICK AND THIN

Proverbs 17:3
The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold, and the Lord tests hearts.

Joseph sat in a pool of gloom on the grimy floor of the king’s dungeon. It had been months since he’d interpreted the dreams of the king’s baker and cup-bearer, who had been imprisoned some time after he had. His dreams had come true. The baker had been executed while the cup-bearer was set free and reinstated to his position. This man had promised to put in a good word in for Joseph, but he had obviously forgotten.

Joseph’s mind wondered back to his own dreams, which he’d had many years previously. He believed the dreams had implied that God would promote him and cause him to become a man of influence. However, his brothers were jealous of him and had sold him into slavery. Finally ending up in an important servant in the household of an important man in Egypt, Joseph thought he might be on the road to success, but now this. “Adonai, why am I still here?” he moaned. “The cup-bearer promised he would get me out of here but here I am, still in prison.” Just then he heard the guard approach and keys clanging against the metal of dungeon gate. “Get up,” said the man. “The king has had a disturbing dream and was told you have the power to interpret dreams. He wants to see you. You’re free.”

We all know the story of how Joseph went on to interpret Pharaoh’s dreams, warning against a the coming of a 7-year drought. Pharaoh promotes him and he becomes the second most important person of all of Egypt.

God had a reason for Joseph to be sold into slavery. God had a reason for Joseph to be wrongly accused of rape and thrown into prison. God had a reason for every seeming setback that Joseph endured. If Joseph was not sold into slavery and thrown into prison he would not have interpreted the king’s dreams. If Joseph had not interpreted these dreams he would not have prevented people from dying from the drought, including his own family. If Joseph did not save his family, his brother Judah would have died. If Judah had died his descendant, Jesus would never have been crucified for the sins of the world. If Jesus was never crucified for sin, you and I would be lost today!

God had a plan for Joseph, even through his trials and God has a plan for you, through yours. Joseph was refined in tribulation, like silver in the crucible, to become the one who preserved the lineage of Jesus Christ. God knows the plans he has to refine you through your difficulties that you may be the one to fulfil his great purposes for those around you.

God-tracking is trusting God’s plans through thick and thin

Blessings

Dudley

Help me have patience to wait for your plans to come to fruition, while I am refined through this tribulation

Pray
“Oh Lord, sometimes I feel like Joseph in the pit of the king’s dungeon. I know you have spoken to me and given me promises for the future but it seems as though I’m never going to realise these promises. I feel like I’m in a furnace being refined by fire. But I know that even pure silver and gold are contaminated with impurities that only float to the surface when they are placed under intense heat. I ask you, therefore, to refine me through this crucible of difficulty so that you may scoop off the dross in me that comes to the surface. Thank you for the great plans you have for me. Help me have patience to wait for your plans to come to fruition, while I am refined through this tribulation. Amen.”

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS TREKKING YOUR UNCHARTED TRACK BY FAITH

Hebrews 11:6
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

This life you live as a follower of Christ is a great adventure – a great trek along the highways and byways of time. Where you are going, no one has ever ventured before. You are a pioneer exploring a track that God has designed for only you to walk. Like any great pioneer trekking the wilds of uncharted territory, you will most certainly face hazards and dangers at every turn, but at the same time, you will be rewarded by the discovery of new experiences, new opportunities and new life.

Growing up in South Africa I remember learning about the Great Trek. The Cape of Good Hope was discovered by the Portuguese in 1497 but colonised by the Dutch in 1652. The British arrived in 1795 and took over the administration of this new territory. Sadly, animosity developed between the Dutch (who became known as Afrikaners) and the British. This lead to the Afrikaners deciding to migrate north and east.

Humble families uprooted their homes, collected their livestock and set out in ox wagons in 1830, across dangerous uncharted territory. The Great Trek was a hazardous journey across the great Drakensberg mountains. These families faced marauding tribes, famine and disease for many years until, in 1837, the last of the pioneers settled near the Limpopo River in the far north of the country. Indeed, the pioneers and explorers throughout history are bold adventurous people, setting out on great exploits into the unknown.

It takes faith to trek the wilds of uncharted territory. Hebrews 11 is packed with pioneers of faith who set out to trek the purposes of God with nothing more than his promises in hand. Very few of them ever realised the fulfilment of these promises in their lifetimes. However, they set out believing the Word of an invisible God who would accomplish the impossible on their behalf. God was pleased with their faith and he rewarded those who diligently sought him.

God has a plan for your life; a plan for hope and a prosperous future. However, from where you stand today, it may seem, all you can see are monsters and mountains. It will take faith to set out on that new adventure God has planned for you; faith that comes from his Word. And your faith can grow! So have courage like that of the great explorers of history and set out today in faith, to trek that unknown territory that God has planned specifically for you.

God-tracking is trekking your uncharted track by faith

Blessings

Dudley

Dear God-tracker

WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK

This e-devotional / blog is published once a week via godtracker.co.uk. It developed as a result of a radio programme I once produced called, On Track. Listeners of the radio show wrote in asking for copies of the content I shared on-air. I began sending this information out by e-mail once a week. These e-mails later developed into the e-devotional that has become known as, trACker. trACker is sent out to e-mail subscribers and published on several online blog sites every Friday.

I wish to express my deepest appreciation to you for supporting this ministry over the years. Your input invaluable. Therefore, from time to time I request your feedback in the form of a very short questionnaire.

I would greatly appreciate it if you would  email dudley@godtracker.co.uk with your answers to the following questions.

If you prefer, the questionnaire is also available online as an anonymous shttps://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/RR7WBRT

1.    How long have you subscribed to or been reading this devotional?
2.    How do you read trACker? By e-mail or online on a blog or social media site? If so, please tell us which one.
3.    How has trACker helped you in your Christian walk?
4.    Please give us any comments that may help us produce a better service to you

trACker is based on the scripture that reminds us that God knows the plans he has for us. The truth of that statement is, it is indeed, God who knows the plans he has for us; we don’t, not until he reveals them to us, that is. Therefore, to remain walking in God’s will we need to continue to seek and track his plans for us by acknowledging him in all our ways and keeping our eyes on Jesus.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Every blessing

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS NEVER QUITTING TO PRAY FOR THAT LOST SOUL YOU LOVE

Luke 10:2
And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.

Pastor Rod was sipping a cup of coffee at the tea table after church one morning, talking to a lady from the congregation. “You seem down today, Sharon,” he said, noticing that she wasn’t making eye contact with him. “Well, yes,” she answered, “I am feeling a little low. You remember my son, Paul?”

“Yes. Wasn’t he the lad who used to always come with you to church?”

“Yes. Well he’s 17-years old now and has dropped out of school. He went abroad with some friends. I don’t know where he is. Could you please pray for him?” she asked with desperation etched in her voice. “Of course I will,” replied her pastor. Rod faithfully put Paul’s name on his prayer list and prayed regularly for him, that he’d be kept safe and come to find Christ as his Lord and God.

Thirty years later Rod was once again sipping a cuppa at the church tea table after the service. Much had changed. He was now pastoring a new church in a new town and had lost contact with Sharon. A well-dressed middle aged man approached him, whom he’d never seen at church before. “Pastor Rod, we’ve not met. My name is Paul.”

Paul explained how he’d wondered far from the life he once knew growing up in a Christian home. He’d moved from town to town, country to country, living a life of sex, drugs, and decadence. Late one night, destitute and alone on the streets of Ankara a stranger walked up to him and said, “Your life is a mess but you already know the way to get back on your feet. Pray and surrender your life to Jesus. He will rescue you from the chaos you’re in.” Paul dropped his head into his hands and broke down. When he looked up again, the man was gone. “I don’t know if he was an angel or not, Pastor Rod, but one thing I do know, my mother told me you’ve been praying for me all these years. Thank you so much.”

Dear God-tracker, our God is a faithful God whose love endures forever. Scripture tells us that he never abandons us, even when we abandon him. When we pass through fire or the flood he is with us. Jesus taught a parable wherein a young man deserted his father and ran off in seek of fame and fortune only to find himself penniless, impoverished and eating husks fed to pigs just to survive. Coming to his senses and returns home to his father who welcomes him with open arms.

Never, never give up praying for that friend or loved one to come to salvation. God is watching over that dear one and will cause them to hear the message of his love at just the right time. You never know, he may even send his angels to rescue them. Just keep praying!

God-tracking is never quitting to pray for that lost soul you love.

Blessings

Dudley

I pray that he will respond to the message of your grace and give his life to you

Pray
“Dear God, you know I’ve been praying for this person to come to know you for many years. I thank you that you are a faithful God and you will never abandon him to his depravity. I trust that you will keep him safe and sound, wherever he is, and that he will have opportunity to hear the message of your love, through Jesus. Send workers into the harvest field of his life to reap that crop. Send angels, if need be, to protect him and guide him to a place where he will respond to the Gospel. GOD-TRACKING IS ACKNOWLEDGING THAT HE IS YOUR SUCCESS

Books by Dudley Anderson

The e-Devotional helping to keep you on-track
Published through www.godtracker.co.uk

02 September 2016

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS ACKNOWLEDGING THAT HE IS YOUR SUCCESS

Proverbs 16:3
Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established.

I was sitting quietly in the prayer meeting pondering the words of Psalm 87 in my Bible, open on my lap. Someone had just prayed about his workload and duties at work, which caused me to think about my own responsibilities – work, family, church, home. As I did so, I became a little overcome by the diversity of my commitments and began to feel my enthusiasm begin to drain from me. Psalm 87 speaks about how God loves Zion (Jerusalem). He founded it and populated it. Then my eye caught verse 5, “…the Most High himself will establish her.”

God’s Word dropped into my heart and quelled my anxieties. If he’s called me to be a father, grandfather, husband and pastor then he will watch over his calling to perform it in my life. I have nothing to defend when it comes to God’s plans for me; he alone is able to fulfil his purposes in my life according to his designs, not mine. Indeed, it was he who gave me those responsibilities and duties in the first place. Therefore, if I continue to acknowledge him in all I do, he will see to it that my work will achieve his goals for my life. All that remains is for me to do is to commit my work to him – to cast my responsibilities upon him.

Are you feeling a little overwhelmed by your responsibilities today? It could be you’ve given your all to your job but, as you stand back to view the results, you’re disappointed by other people’s lack of enthusiasm or commitment. Perhaps you feel you’re undervalued or not appreciated by others and this has left you feeling demotivated and despondent. If that’s you, then my humble advice is to do some care-casting today. That is, cast your cares on him, because he loves you. Commit your workload and all your duties to the Lord and he will see to it that your plans will succeed. Do this and the Most High himself will establish you.

God-tracking is acknowledging that he is your success.

Blessings

Dudley

Dear God-tracker

GOD-TRACKING IS LETTING GO OF OFFENCE BEFORE COMING TO WORSHIP GOD

Matthew 6:14
For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you

Jesus said, “If you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.” Naturally, in Bible times, people would bring a literal offering to the temple as a burnt offering before God on the altar. It’s in this context that Jesus said these words. This type of offering was an act of worship. Often, offerings were made as sin offerings. In other words, the person bringing the offering was seeking God’s forgiveness for sins committed. It’s clear that Jesus was implying that before we can expect to receive forgiveness from God we need to be prepared to offer forgiveness to those who have offended us. This thought is reflected in the prayer Jesus taught is to pray: “Forgive us our trespassers as we forgive those who have trespassed against us.”

Unforgiveness results from hurts or offences other people cause in our lives, knowingly or otherwise. Unforgiveness is the greatest inhibitor in any person’s life. Unforgiveness will cause a someone to stagnate in their walk with God and their growth in character. Unforgiveness will drag a person out of God’s blessing and into despair, depression and desolation. The one thing that hinders God’s forgiveness of us is our unforgiveness of others. For a Christian, forgiveness is not optional, it is mandatory.

We no longer offer animal sacrifices on an altar before God. Jesus was the great final sin offering, whose holy blood spilled on the altar of the cross brought forgives of sin, once and for all. However, when I accepted this sacrifice of Christ as atonement for my sin, I laid my own life down; I have been crucified with Christ and now live by faith in his sacrifice for my sins. My whole life is laid bare on the altar of God, as it were. Therefore, every time I come to worship God or come to the communion table, I need to be sure I come in forgiveness and grace.

Today, if you hold a grievance against someone or if you’re harbouring unforgiveness, first go to that person and make right with them before bringing your sacrifice of praise before God. And if you have offended someone else, knowingly or otherwise, then be sure to ask their forgiveness before coming to the Lord’s table or offering him your worship. Remember too, forgiveness and apology need to be unqualified. So it’s simply, “I forgive you.” Or, “I’m sorry.” Add no buts or ands to it. I have found forgiveness is the most liberating and empowering act in life; an act of worship in response of the grace of God.

God-tracking is letting go of offence before coming to worship God.

Blessings

Dudley

Don’t Give Up, Look Up!

TODAY I PRAY, FATHER FORGIVE MY TRESPASSES AND I FORGIVE THOSE WHO HAVE TRESPASSED AGAINST ME

Pray
“Oh Father in heaven, I realise that I have been harbouring offence in my life. I apologise for my unforgiveness! Before you, I now choose to confess forgiveness of those who have offended me. If I have offended others, dear Lord, then I ask your forgiveness and ask that you help me to make an unqualified apology to them. Today I pray, Father forgive my trespasses and I forgive those who have trespassed against me. Amen.
