I will put you in the cleft of the rock and will cover you with My hand while I pass by.

I sat staring at the microphone in my radio studio. I had just closed the mic after a short chat about a
Bible verse when I was unexpectedly overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of my task. I worked for an international radio ministry that reached millions of people by radio on FM and shortwave. I produced a 2-hour music magazine show that was aired daily from 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm. One word from me on the radio could change a life for good. Suddenly I saw millions of lives packed in that that small black AKG radio microphone. I could relate to how Moses must have felt when God called him to lead a million people across a desert to a land flowing with milk and honey.

Moses said to the Lord, “You say to me, ‘Bring up this people. Yet you have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found grace in My sight.’” Moses was an outcast. He had killed an Egyptian and was exiled to live in the desert. Here, the Lord of heaven and earth appeared to him and called him to lead the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt to the land promised to their father, Abraham. Old Moses lacked self-confidence. He had a stutter and was shy of people. Yet, God had a plan for him. One word from Moses would change, not just one life, but the world.

Obediently Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt. Yet he was still unsure of the sheer responsibility he had. It was at Sinai that God gave Moses the 10 commandments that impact lives still today. Moses’ greatest task was to bring us the Law of the Lord. Perhaps it was on the mountain he felt as I felt in my studio that day; insecure and overwhelmed by the task. It was then that Moses was whelmed by the presence of the Lord as God hid him in the cleft of a rock and covered him with his hand. As the next song in my playlist rang out over the airwaves, I was encouraged by the knowledge that his grace and presence were my power to touch the lives of many.

God has a plan for your life. His plan is for your good and for you to touch and change the lives of many for the good, for good. Rest in his rock and know his covering hand.

God-tracking is fulfilling your purpose in the presence of God.

DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY

“Hide me in the cleft of a rock and cover me with your hand so that I may fulfill this task by the power of your presence and grace.”

“O Lord, sometimes I feel so overcome by the tasks you give me. Sometimes I feel that there must be other people who could do a better job than me. But then I remember that, just as Moses felt insecure and unqualified to fulfill his task, yet you came through for him, you are the source of my skill, energy and confidence. Hide me in the cleft of a rock and cover me with your hand so that I may fulfill this task by the power of your presence and grace. Amen.”

He is your praise, and he is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome things which your eyes have seen.

I’d toddled off to the kitchen to make a steaming beverage for my family. In the lounge were Karen, my wife, Ryan and Amy, my son and daughter-in-law, and their children Ruben, Grace and Zac. As I waited for the kettle to boil, I was thinking about life. “Lord,” I prayed quietly, “I know you’re a miracle-working God yet I’ve not seen any healings.” Like the next guy, I have often prayed for healing and I know God heals but at that moment I had forgotten the goodness of the God I serve and I was absorbed by my doubts. Turning my back on the kettle I grumbled, “Lord, I wish I could just see a miracle.”

Just then, my 11-year-old grandson, Ruben popped his head out the lounge door and looked at me. He then withdrew back into the lounge without uttering a word. Instantly the Holy Spirit reminded me of an awesome healing miracle that my eyes had seen.

When Ruben was a mere 3 weeks old he was rushed to hospital with suspected sepsis. Sepsis is extremely dangerous for a small infant. Karen and I hurried to the hospital to be with Amy and Ryan and to pray for little Ruben. Ruben was fitting uncontrollably. Then the unimaginable happened, he stopped breathing. Medics rushed to his side to resuscitate him. After he was resuscitated, they made plans to transfer Ruben to an intensive care unit in a specialised children’s hospital. We continued to pray and trust God for a miracle. There he was, his small form, infiltrated by a respirator and myriad monitoring machines.

Twenty-four hours later, Karen and I visited him again. To our amazement, the cables and tubes had been removed. “He’s on the mend,” said the ICU sister. “I have never seen such a quick turnaround in all my working life,” she added. Ruben was healed… miraculously!

Ruben said nothing to me that day when he looked at me from the lounge. I believe the Holy Spirit used him to simply pry me from my moping doubts and remind me that he is my God who has done great and awesome things for me, which my eyes have seen.

We serve a miracle-working God. There is nothing too difficult for the Lord. Expel those doubts and remind yourself of the miracles and the good things he has done for you. He can turn your mourning into dancing and your darkest night into day.

God-tracking is remembering the things he has done.

He Knows

“The Lord has seen your oppression and heard your cries. He knows! And my God will meet your needs because he loves you.”

Exodus 3:7
And the Lord said: “I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.

God promised Abraham that his descendants would occupy a land flowing with milk and honey. Abraham had settled in Canaan as a foreigner – the Hebrew. When drought hit the land, his grandson, Jacob moved the family to Egypt. While Jacob’s son, Joseph, reigned in Egypt under the Pharaoh the Hebrews enjoyed prosperity. However, after Joseph died, Abraham’s children came under intense oppression. Life was tough, to say the least. Men slaved day and night for 7 days a week. Women and children were abused. But we read, “The Lord said: ‘I have surely seen the oppression of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.’”

The Lord knows every detail of what you are facing today. He is aware of your challenges and strife. He sees your misery and anguish. He hears your prayers and your cries for help. Your God is concerned for your well-being and peace. He will intervene.

The Israelites were under slavery for 400 years. That may seem a very long time to us. But, I believe, even during those years, their loving God saw their plight and guarded them through their troubles. He knew his people. He knew what they faced. I believe, that if we were to hear the stories of individual men and women during this time we would be astounded at the mercy, grace and care of their Lord Yehovah. And then came Moses.

Stand sure. Don’t give up, look up. Your help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Cast your cares on him because he cares for you. The Lord has seen your oppression and heard your cries. He knows! And my God will meet your needs because he loves you.

God-tracking is knowing he knows.

“Dear Lord, I don’t know how long I can go on. And yet, I know you know my plight. I know you are aware of my situation. Running On Grace

“You may feel your motivation and passion are burned out. But keep your eyes on Jesus and rest in the grace of God… Grace is God’s doing! Grace is your fuel! Grace is your anointing, and the anointing always breaks the yoke.”

2 Corinthians 12:10
For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

In one of his letters to the church of Corinth, by the Holy Spirit, Paul talks about his thorn in the flesh.
There has been much speculation as to what Paul’s thorn was. In the letter to the church, Paul writes, “Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

The book of 2nd Corinthians is a deeply personal letter. The circumstances behind this letter reveal the difficult and often painful realities of ministerial life. More than any of his other epistles, 2 Corinthians shows Paul’s pastor’s heart. In 1 Corinthians we learn how the church in Corinth was rebellious, struggling with division and spiritual immaturity. Paul's authority had been undermined and his teaching contradicted.

Therefore, I would like to add a suggestion as to what Paul’s thorn was. Could it have been that the apostle was burned out and running on empty? A man of passion, Paul had always given his all for the churches he’d planted. Some of them were thriving while others, like Corinth, turned out to be a thorn in the flesh. The Corinthian church had become insubordinate, critical and judgemental. Paul was facing what we might term, church politics. He says, “For I fear that perhaps when I come, I may find you not as I wish. That perhaps there may be quarrelling, jealousy, anger, hostility, slander, gossip, conceit, and disorder.” Paul had poured so much into this group of believers, only to have them criticise him and rebel against his leadership. Nothing is more demoralising for a pastor than a critical spirit. I believe Paul was emotionally threadbare. 

Yet, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Paul writes that God’s grace is enough, and his power is made perfect in our weakness. Paul was facing a great challenge to his ministry. He was feeling weak. However, Jesus tells him that in his weaknesses, he is strong because God’s grace is his strength. Paul says to the Corinthians, “For Christ was crucified in weakness, but lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but in dealing with you we will live with him by the power of God.”

Whatever opposition you are facing today; whatever may be your thorn in the flesh, never quit! You may feel your motivation and passion are burned out. But keep your eyes on Jesus and rest in the grace of God. Jesus told Paul that God’s grace was enough to get him through. Grace is God’s doing! Grace is your fuel! Grace is the anointing that always breaks the yoke.

Paul persevered and continued to pastor, teach and lead, not by his own strength, but by the empowerment of God’s grace.

God-tracking is running on empty by God’s grace.

Your grace is my power and my fuel. I feel so weak, but I know that my human strength can never be enough to fulfil your plans for my life; only your grace is enough.
